That was from Team Negative 1, not poita.

Looks nice! Is the background static?
The star field in the '81 crawl is from Empire, but otherwise, it’s pretty much identical to the 97, sans timing.
Can you show a comparison with the VHS for the above shot?
I think this is purely a regrade.
Yeah, probably. I don’t know if IPs have cue marks or not.
To weigh in on the fan edit vs. SE debate, I would say for a first-timer, you’re better off using an official version, though I would honestly show them the OOT first. Then if they see it again with you, show them the SE. If they want to see them again, show them a fan edit. That way they see the progress from the originals to the official revisionism to fan revisionism.
A RAID 1 array of reliable 3-5TB drives totaling about 25TB would probably be best for now, until SSD prices go down. You’re still generally better protected with SSDs than HDDs, and SSDs are only getting better, where HDDs are only getting bigger.
Basically just compression differences. I haven’t watched the AVCHD version but I can’t imagine it would come close to the MKV version. If you want a physical copy and don’t have a bku ray burner, it’s the way to go.
Frink, I’m going to sue you for suing the vibe of this thread.
I’m not a fan of the pseudo-3D rebel logo, but other than that, it looks great. I think it would be nice to see a version of this art that lists the Blu Ray as a separate disc (i.e., disc 1 OOT/81, disc 2 97/04, disc 3 2011, disc 4 bonus).
but then again, so are II and III.
Yes and no (I think). The cameras used for shooting II and III were only 1920:1080, yes. But I want to say that the vfx and the DI were done at actual 2k cinema resolution.
IMDB confirms that, but it seems kind of silly to have a DI in a higher resolution than your filmed portions. The 2011 OT is a different beast entirely, however.
Honestly the only reason that the marathon wouldn’t be the 2011’s is because they’re stuck in 1080p, but then again, so are II and III.
Those look great! Anyway, I think that the best way for Disney to release it would be to have the MPAA rerate it to something like PG and include some sort of video disclaimer.

Dre's post 462 (my personal fave)
That kinda looks like a mix of the two- red face plus increase in whites.

This is what the soldier frame looks like, if I use the frame posted by piota as a reference:
Not bad, a little dark and a little warm for my tastes.

Does anyone have this frame from the JSC?
The 8mm print of Empire is based on the 70mm version, right? If so, is it actually missing shots of ships from the very end of the film? I have been very curious about this since I heard about the 70mm version.
Has anyone contacted any of the theaters directly? I live near the only Oregon showing, but it's a Regal, and I don't think they'd know jack shit. Cinerama is a different story, however. They seem like they'd be more knowledgeable.
EDIT: I found a forum where someone got the running times from the films. This is what they were given:
Star Wars (2h 1m)
Empire (2h 4m)
Jedi (2h 14m)
http://www.film-tech.com/ubb/f8/t007339.html
If this is true, then you will notice that those are the theatrical run times.

As for the JSC, it should be possible with a fancy player to reframe the picture to cut out the Japanese subtitles. I bet VLC can do it, and mplayer/mpv with the right options definitely can.
I couldn't figure out how to frame out the subs in VLC. Any tips on how to do it in any of the available windows based media players?
On VLC you just go to the video drop-down menus, select "crop", and then the 2.35:1 ratio (although this may cut some off if the frame isn't centered, so you can try 2.20:1 also).

I thought the 25th anniversary transfer did have the yellow skateboard wheels, despite its other issues. It was the 2003 DVD/DTV/"DCP" master that had them pink.
I have no idea. I have a 2012 (I think) DVD release that has the pink wheels, so I assumed it was the BD master.
Makes sense. I was just hoping for something with yellow skateboard wheels.
So how does one mix the laserdisc video with the DTS audio?
Does anyone know if the 30th Anniversary set uses a new master or if it's the current one?
