Politics is dumb.

A Virginia elections official reached into an artsy stoneware bowl, pulled out a name and declared Republican David Yancey the winner of a House of Delegates race that could determine which political party controls the chamber.

Virginia staged a dramatic, rare election lottery, livestreamed across the country, to settle a tie between Yancey, an incumbent from Newport News, and Democrat Shelly Simonds.

The spectacle drew national attention as an odd way to decide a highly consequential contest. But it might not be the last word in a saga that’s taken more turns than the clay that went into that wheel-thrown bowl, borrowed for the occasion from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts .

when the election ends in a tie, I am not sure what they should do. But I agree, this seems to be an odd way of dealing with it.

I don’t know why that is funny.

It’s funny because you are willing to justify any police shooting.

I’m done with this.

You are. It’s always, “Well, he could’ve had a gun.” Even if the person isn’t guilty you still use this excuse to justify police officers shooting people to death.

think what you wish.

I just wonder if oojason thinks the fight between Vader and Luke in ROTJ was a draw that was broken apart by the Emperor using force lightning.

If you’re wondering what I think about certain things you likely need to get a life mate.

Why are you angry with me? I am not the only one that thinks Rey won the fight against Ren.

Who said I was angry? That you spend time wondering about what I think about is a little sad, and also weird. You probably wouldn’t get it right anyway 😉

Plus, I don’t care that you are not the only one that thinks Rey won the fight vs Rey. Again, read my first post on it if it bothers you that much.

And try not to project context of one argument into other situations. It does your own point of view - nor yourself - much good.

Huh?

I haven’t mentioned Luke vs Vader in ROTJ at all - you taking my opinion on the Kylo vs Rey fight from TFA and putting it into the context of Luke vs Vader in ROTJ is doing just that.

If you think I’m spending any more time and effort going around with in circles on this, think on. I am not.

If you wish you can discuss this ‘TFA Rey vs Ren fight’ topic you can do so in the TFA thread - this part of the conversation has gone on long enough - and lost it’s context within TLJ - in a thread on TLJ.

The same for everyone else who wishes to continue with it.

Sheesh.

If you have a problem with any of that feel free to PM me about it.

I have done so.

This is the first time in my 28 years that I’ve even seen it suggested that Luke could’ve been doing anything other than choking the guards. I had no idea there was any disagreement at all about that.

This is the first time in the 34 years since the movie came out that I have heard he was force choking the guards. I must have watched ROTJ millions of times and never got that idea.

How could you not have known this? They very obviously clutch at their throats. And it is an example of how Luke is getting closer to turning to the Dark Side.

As I said earlier. It is possibly because for years I was only watching the pan and scan version of ROTJ and maybe the guards grabbing their throats got cut out of the frame.

Rey won a lightsaber fight without any training at all. This indicates that she is special and incredibly strong in the force and it begs for an explanation.

When was this lightsabre fight?

In TFA.

You are referring to the sabre fight vs Ren in TFA - where he was already injured from Chewbacca’s powerful crossbow shot, was bleeding from it, also taking a hit from his sabre fight with Finn, and also felt conflicted & weak over just killing his father? In a fight in which the aim was not to kill Rey - but to bring her to Snoke… a fight in which he actually offered to be her teacher… and in which Rey was on the backfoot for nearly all of it before ‘letting the force in’…

Rey didn’t win the lightsabre fight at all… even after ‘letting the force in’ as it were - though she had gained the upper hand by scarring him & put him on his arse - yet the fight was broken up by the planet coming apart…

Um, she did win the fight. The only reason he survived or wasn’t taken prisoner is because of the planet coming apart.

No, he’s just on his arse. There was no winner due to the planet coming apart.

Go watch the fight again. He was on ass before the planet came apart. He was on the ground helpless for 15 seconds before the planet came apart and they were separated. She won the fight.

Look this and tell me she didn’t win the fight:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJTz-ahXyyI&feature=youtu.be&t=4m18s

How about you go watch all of the fight again? And post in on here (don’t worry - I have below).

I did watch all of it and posted the ending above.

Just because - as I stated before - he is on his arse and scarred in the final few blows of the fight - doesn’t mean she won the fight.

He was on the ground helpless. Him scarred, her not. She still had her Saber, he didn’t. I don’t know how you can look at that ending and tell me that she didn’t win the fight.

Just because he is scarred - doesn’t mean she won the fight - again see my previous posts.

I am not going to argue it anymore. I totally completely disagree with you about the outcome of the fight.

The planet came apart before there was any ‘winner’.

You are flat out wrong.

The planet didn’t come apart before there was any winner? Right…

Ok, maybe it started to come apart before there was any winner. But that crack in the earth that separated Rey and Ren occurred after Rey won the fight.

Selecting certain scenes from an overall event to highlight an opinion does not make it fact. I find it baffling that you think it does.

I find it baffling that you don’t think the end of a lightsaber fight determines who wins. I find it baffling that you can look at that ending and not think Rey won.

Once again, the planet coming apart ended the fight, no?

Try watching the whole fight, here you go - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJTz-ahXyyI - and put it into context of my previous posts. Rey is on the back foot and losing the fight - on the edge of a ‘cliff’ before she let’s the force in… and even then the planet breaks apart before there any winner…

As I said above, I already watched it. All of it

And in the context of my previous posts? No, I didn’t think so - no worries.

I watched the fight before I posted that link. How do you think I knew what time to set the link to start at? I really don’t appreciate being called a liar.

Mate, that you repeatedly ignore what is being posted in reply to you just re-affirms my thinking that you are selectively cherrypicking parts of responses that you don’t agree with or wish to engage with.

That’s cool. I’ll leave it there, by all means feel free to repeat yourself yet again.

If you referring to the fact that I didn’t respond to the 2nd part of your post, it is because I had to cut it short. Sometimes real life interferes with completing responses to posts.

It exists in this film - as stated above. You can go back and select whatever criteria you wish - it does not make it that it did not happen in this film. I don’t have to account for it not appearing for it’s absence in previous films at all - as that is not what the context of the situation is about.

The point that it is not in the previous films, stretches credibility.

Though if so, I could point out that the balance of the force - and it’s interpretation - is indeed mentioned in the PT, yes?

Nice one, thanks.

What is mentioned in the PT is idea of the Chosen One bringing balance to force. Now its seems a Chosen one was not needed, the force auto balances itself.

I will never understand how gurgling noises and putting your hands up to your throat/chest area could be considered “going to sleep.” You clearly sleep differently than pretty much any other person.

That’s obviously not what I’ve been saying. They ultimately go to sleep. I don’t think it’s super important what Luke is doing there, though I understand some of you read all kinds of foreshadowing into it. If we got answers from the people playing the GGs that they were being choked, okay. But a split second halting pig noise and hands going to the chest/neck with a vague hand gesture isn’t so obviously choking. The fleeting moment doesn’t seem to have meant to carry the import some attach anyway.

So wait, what are you saying then? It’s not obvious to me at all.

I thought you said Luke did a mind trick to make them go to sleep.

The way I’ve viewed the scene, as have others notwithstanding your disbelief, is that Luke used his powers to cause them to lower their weapons, step away and then fall into sleep against the wall. I never gave it all kinds of thought about the precise mechanics used. I do know that if you construct a scene of somebody choking someone it would probably be the way described in the novel, and maybe have Luke’s hand closing like Vader’s. Again, I can say it is possible that he was doing some choking. In watching the scene, the fleeting gestures and noises (from pig people composed of seemingly cumbersome costumes) isn’t so totally obviously choking.

I give up.

what is with your attitude in this thread?

It’s so weird to me that people see Luke vs. Guards as something other than a force choke.

I wonder if part of it could be that for years, I could only watch it on VHS in pan and scan. Letterboxing just wasn’t done in 1983. The guards putting their hands on their necks might have been cut out of the frame. I only saw the widescreen version once in 1983 and then pan and scan for years until the SE came out in the theaters.

I can’t confirm how much the P&S VHS cut off but there’s also the choking noises they make.

which obviously for years I didn’t think were choking noises.
