On a completely unrelated note, for those Kevin Williamson and Wes Craven fans out there, Canada is the only place to see the R-rated cut of Cursed, with the exception of BC and Saskatchewan. The US got the neutered PG-13 cut.

So, do you think think that Mel pull all the original edition DVDs off the Shelf, release the Recut on DVD and then pretend that the original no longer exists?

How come there's so much ignorance? Aren't we all human beings?

It is strange isn't it? How anyone can justify those things is beyond me. It goes against everything the USA stands for. As far I know, "whites only" things have been outlawed. If anything a bus, a toilet, a restaurant said "whites only" I would refuse to use it and I am white. And I agree with you, we are all human beings. I wish everyone would realize that.

Ummm... Carrey is a comedian as well. That's the problem right there. His manic comic performances soured him to the Academy regardless of what else he has done since that time. Robin Williams is a comedian who has also done drama. Much more so than Carrey has. That's why we're saying that it'll take years before he earns the Academy's respect. Once he's done as many dramas as Williams and can do so convincingly so that everybody can forget who he once was, then it'll happen. I'm not saying Eternal Sunshine and Man on the Moon are not convincing pieces of dramatic acting. They've just come really soon after his manic comic turns. They still can't take him seriously. Say he had been dramas for another five years and then did Eternal Sunshine, I think he would have been nominated and would have a very strong chance of winning.

I agree they don't tend to give the award to comedians. But Ric seemed to think the Acedemy had somthing against Carey himself, not just his profession.

2- Titanic, LOTR... But I was saying that CK dosen't write these things, and it pisses hollywood off.

While those movies did win, there are many others that won that aren't blockbusters with alots of action. This year's winner for example. Driving Miss Daisy, Shakespear In Love, American Beauty, A Beautiful Mind are others.

3- Just wait.

We will see. If a movie he is in is great enough, than so be it. I will not prejudice myself against a great movie just because he happens to be in it. Nor should a movie win just because he is in it.

Ray Charles was not a slave nor a retard.

The part that Denzel Washington played in Training Day was not a slave, a retard or blind. He won the Academy award that year.

Morgan Freeman won this year for his part in Million Dollar Baby. His character was neither retard nor a slave, but he was half blind.

Was the character that Halle Berry played in Monster's Ball a slave or a retard? I have not seen the movie.

It wasn't even nominated, I don't know why.

The problem with "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" is that it featured two names on it: Jim Carrey and Charlie Kaufman. The academy hates Jim Carrey and they will never allow anything slightly related to him get an important award - he should at least have been nominated for Man on the Moon. The academy is ignoring Charlie Kaufman because he is "too smart" for Hollywood, he's considered "indie" by them, he makes movies with no explosions, no guns, no pseudo-fantastic era swordfight, with no parts for Van Diesel, and the worse of all, he makes movies for smart people. So this award (which he should have got from his past films too, specially Being John Malkovitch), to me, feels like the academy saying "yeah yeah you're the best screenwriter around, here's your award, now get lost".

1. I did not know that the Academy hates Jim Carrey. why?

2. usually the Academy Award goes to a film that does not have explosions, guns pseudo-fantastic era swordfights.

3. I do not recall a best picture winner that had Van Diesel in it.

4. Million dollar bady had none of these things and was (imho) a movie for smart people.
