things we Love
Time
Remember that coworker of mine I told you guys about several months ago in the things we hate thread? His father was friends with boss and consequently this coworker could get away with murder make everyone else pay for and clean up his mistakes, therefor making everyone else's job twice as hard as it had to be. Well since then, new owners have bought the business and the new owners are not friends with the coworker's father. Consequently, I love that fact that two days ago, the coworker was finally fired!!!!!! Normally I wouldn't be so happy over someone being fired, but this ***wipe deserved it a llllllllllllllooooooooonnnnnnnnnggggggggggg time ago. The day I ever see him again will be too soon. I only wish I could have been the one to tell him. I'd have done it like Trump LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Official Lucasfilm Response

I wanted you to know how much we appreciate the passion and enthusiasm you have for Star Wars, and thank you for sharing your concerns about our upcoming DVD release.

The DVDs being released in September will contain two versions of Star Wars: Episodes IV, V and VI – the Special Editions (which represent George’s vision of the movies) and the first versions, which will be included as bonus material. We hoped that releasing those “original” movies on a bonus disc would be a way to have some additional fun with the debut of the movies as individual DVDs. We certainly did not want it to become a source of concern or frustration for any of our fans.

As you may know, an enormous amount of effort was put into digitally restoring the negatives for the Special Editions. In one scene alone, nearly 1 million pieces of dirt had to be removed, and the Special Editions were created through a frame-by-frame digital restoration. The negatives of the movies were permanently altered for the creation of the Special Editions, and existing prints of the first versions are in poor condition.

So many fans have requested the original movies, we wanted to find a way to bring them to you. But since these movies do not represent George's artistic vision, we could not put the extraordinary time and resources into this project as we did with the Special Editions. The 1993 Laserdisc masters represented the best source for providing the original versions as DVD bonus material. Although these are non-anamorphic versions, they do preserve the original widescreen composition of the movies.

We want you to be aware that we have no plans – now or in the future – to restore the earlier versions.

We hope you will understand our decision and, again, want to let you know how much we appreciate your interest and enthusiasm.

Sincerely,
Lynne Hale

Why must Lucasfilm act so amazingly stupid? Did they honestly expect Star Wars fans to fall for that bs? Looks like my ban on buying anything Star Wars related is back on.

Message to Lucas: When are you going to wake up and treat the O-OT with some respect? When are you going to realize that this isn't about your artistic vision? This is about giving the fans a choice. Does it really make sense to call the movie that made you what you a "bonus feature"? Non-anamorphic might have been acceptable when DVDs first came out and almost no one had Widescreen TVs. But now it is not. What can't you just admit it is possible for someone to prefer the O-OT over the SE? Just give your fans THE CHOICE of watching the O-OT or the SE with both versions being prints a equal high quality. I refuse to believe there was no possible way of making the SE without altering the negatives that is pure BS. I also refuse to believe that there is no possible way to do a high quality restoration to the O-OT. The fans are willing to pay for it, just DO IT! If you are unwilling, then allow someone who is willing to do so. I just can't understand why you want Star Wars fans to continue to hate you and not buy anything from you. Things would be so much better in the Star Wars world if you would just get you head out of your rear end and release the O-OT the way you know it should be released. STOP BEING SO ARROGANTLY, STUBBORNLY, AMAZINGLY STUPID!!! Until you do, you won't get one red cent of my money.

i donno if its quite that dramatic, i.e. the monostaries keeping record and thus without them we wouldnt have the written word. you forget about the role of ireland in the dark ages, and europe isnt the only place in the work that was civilized, in fact after the fall of rome all of europe was like a backwater area to the world, europe was like the 3rd world, now one went there and no one cared. the centers of the world were china, india and the middle east.

its funny i took a course on world history and how the world has changed from 1400- 1945. and something that i realised, a connection i wouldnt have made without that course though i knew the facts. europe can owe its rise to power to the black plague. WHAT, NAW, not the black plague. yes the black plague. what people dont know is that the plague came from the east, its thought that it first surfaced around the black sea, and at the time europe wasnt a big tradeing area so it didnt go there till later. china was, and so the plague first struck in there. at the time china was like the US of the world only a 1000 times more powerful then the next most powerful. think of a world of canada's with one US that was what it was like at that time. india might have been like england, but thats about it. the chinese owned the indian ocean where all the trading took place, and they had a massive navy, like massive in the sense that it was bigger then the rest of the world's navy. now also at the time china was ruled by the mongal empire which loved trade, and thrived on it. with the arrival of the plague thousands died and there was a huge rebellion in china. they eventually overthrough the mongal rules and took over. the people of china blamed trade for the black plague and so they shut themselves off from the world, they dry docked the navy and within 5 years it had rooted away. the global power that was china was gone. now just as this happened who should happen to figure out how to sail around africa, oh the portugese. they fell into the power niche that china had left and became super rich, spain followed and so did france and england and all of europe, eventually we had colonialism. the rise of the west.

That's very interesting Shim. It does make some sense.

Help with a logic puzzle

I know believe Ric is right on both his Riddle and mine.

(on my Riddle)
Because there is no limit in E1 (due to the fact that the envelope was unmarked), the amount you make in the long run will just as much if you stick with E1 or switch. If there is a limit on what E1 is, whenever E2 is > E1, the amount in E2 will aways be greater than the amount the would be in E1 when E1 > E2.

Example: let us say that E1=1000. When E2 > E1, E2=2000. When E1 > E2, E1 = 1000. 2000 is > 1000. Therefore when there is a limit on E1, it makes sense to switch.

When there is no limit on E1(as is the case with the Riddle), the above example is not true. Therefore it does not matter wheither switch or not. So the answer to the Riddle is no. It is confusing, but no is the right answer.

(on Ric's Riddle)

The prize will only be behind the door you first chose 1/3 of the time. 2/3 of time, the prize will be behind the other two doors. The door the game show host opens will aways be a door that the prize is not behind. Therefore 2/3 of time, the door that you did not original chose and was not opened by the host, will contain the prize, and 1/3 of the time. So therefore, it would make sense to switch. The answer is yes.
