He has a strange old/young face which may work with the character but it has meant we have missed out again on the best Doctor we never had :
who is that?
If you ask two best doctors we've ever had were Tom Baker and Patrick Troughton.
The movie versions of A Christmas Carol have always missed the mark in one way or another.
No adaptions have caught the true spirit of the Sherlock Holmes books either.
I'm not understanding the comparison between Football and WWE. Football is neither campy nor homoerotic. Football players have been wearing the same kind of uniform for years. I do not believe the uniforms were chosen to get women and gays to watch football.
Gaffer Tape said: Which leads into a subsidiary problem: sexualized females are deemed appropriate in movies marketed towards males and females. Sexualized males are usually only deemed appropriate in movies marketed towards females. That seems a bit odd.
I thought action movies were usually marketed towards men. Do you think there were many women that went to see The Dark Knight that weren't dragged there by husbands and boyfriends?

I think the reason for this is simple. Action movies are made for men, not women. Since most men aren't gay, they'd rather see women sexualized than men. Sex sells.
We know that. That is actually the point we are making. We are just making the claim that it is sexist. Kind of funny you are pretty liberal and sensitive on so many other matters, but on this one you defend the status quo.

1) Did Warbler defend the status quo, or just state it?
I thought I was just stating it. I wasn't trying to defend or attack it, for that matter.
Sometimes I think the sexualizing of women goes too far(Padme being slashed in Ep 2). Other times its no big deal to me(the Bond movies).

I think we are seeing more men sexualized in popular movies though. Twilight anyone? It's just a matter of target audience.
good point.

Care to explain that one?
Stereo-types are funny.
tell that to a black person after they watch Birth Of A Nation, also . . .
its funny how you didn't think stereo-types were funny here:

I don't necessarily dislike Avatar just because of the politics, but they do help me to hate it. I do not like that they portray the "villainous" army to be "Marines" who happen to dress, look, and act like our U.S. Marine Corp.

Actually ferris, this happened to me years ago in a nightclub. I went there with two friends, one of whom was the DD - me and the other friend were already pretty soused when we got there. Not long after we arrived, the other friend decided to make a complete circuit around the inside of the club, causing a minor commotion as he went along. So naturally we were escorted outside. When the officer had me follow the light, he stopped and reminded me to follow with my eyes. I replied, "But it's hard!" My luck being incredibly good that night, our sober friend knew that cop and convinced him not to do anything to us. We had to leave the club, of course.
Lesson learned. I haven't been drunk in about four years. I can't even remember the last time I had a drink.
wait a minute, why did the cop do a test on you? You weren't behind the wheel of a car. You said you had a DD which I assume stands for designated drive. It was you friend that caused the commotion inside the club. I don't believe there is a law against getting drunk, as long as you don't drive or break other laws. If there is a law against getting drunk, Ferris is going to have to come to my house and arrest me. I've been drunk IN MY HOUSE multiple times(I never gotten anywhere near close to a wheel of any car during any of those situations or got into any fights with anyone or broke any other laws).
I'm boycotting the show.
well, I guess I can't make any nominations. none of my songs would be in the 40 Billboard's.
Hey Sean. : )
ah. I get I know. I suck at detecting sarcasm.
I don't mind people pointing out real racism in films, but sometime, as is the case with that list, people just go too far. If we keep going down this rate, we will never have a film in which the bad guy is black because it will be regarded as racist. I we have to stop this notion of thinking that how one person acts in a movie is how the movie(and its makers) implies everyone of his/her group acts. There are dumb, stupid, ignorant, evil, docile, and/or bumbling people in every race/ethnicity/gender/religious group/sexual orientation that there is. That's just the way life is. Films should not be required to portray certain in a more positive light than is realistic.

To imply that forced relocation and genocide is bad makes me sick.
I applaud Cameron. Someone had to have the balls to say it. I mean, I'm sick of all these movies that celebrate those things.
what movies made recently celebrate those things?
OP word limit problem? OP stands for original post correct? What is this problem?

hmmm . . . are you saying you are really someone else? perhaps someone I've had a fight with in the past?
I'm sorry, but most of that list is idiotic. If all of those movies are racist, it would be basically impossible to make a movie that wasn't racist.
Spike Lee was so appalled with Michael Clarke Duncan's turn as death row inmate John Coffey that he had to coin a term for it: the Super-Duper Magical Negro. Some disagreed, seeing the role as positive. But if Hollywood is to be believed, all black people who lived before 1960 were docile, bumbling buffoons incapable of doing anything but easing the lives of (and raping, let's not forget raping) white people. Somehow, though, we doubt Michael Clarke Duncan cared about any of that as he went on to star as the head ape in Tim Burton's 2001 remake of that racially sensitive classic Planet of the Apes
so, let me get this straight, how the movie depicted John Coffey is how the movie says all black people are? who does one conclude that?
You may remember Coolio's "Gangsta's Paradise," the hit song from this movie, but what about Michelle Pfeiffer playing an retired Marine who becomes a teacher and saves shiftless, ignorant, minority students from their self-destructive tendencies? Best Teach America recruitment video we've ever seen.
that right its racist because there are no ignorant shiftless minority students. right? wrong.
Who needed a drunken rant to know that Mel Gibson hates Jews? In his depiction of the Crucifixion of Christ—who, coincidentally, is portrayed by white actor Jim Caveziel even though everybody knows Black Jesus was black—the Chosen People are a vile, bloodthirsty horde that takes great pleasure in watching God's son suffer for the sins of man. Gibson gets a gold Star of David for this one—David Duke, that is.
everyone knows black Jesus was black? huh? I don't it. Besides, I never thought Jesus was black, I though he was Jewish-middle eastern
also, I think the idea that this movie is bigoted towards Jews is overblown. If you compare the movie to how the Passion story is depicted in the bible, you will find it to be quite accurate.
John chapter 19 verse 11:
Jesus answered, Thou couldest have no power at all against me, except it were given thee from above:
therefore he that delivered me unto thee hath the greater sin
Matthew Chapter 27 verse 25
Then answered all the people and said, His blood be on us and on our children
Gibson didn't come up with that stuff on his own, they came from the bible. I agree Gibson himself is a bigot, he movie however is just accurate depiction from the bible.

ok, maybe I've been wrong about him. Can someone explain what I don't get about him and why he is missed?
I tried to write something out but it just wasn't translating. Maybe it's one of those deals where you either get him or you don't? Anyway, he's insulting, but typically only to those who deserve it, and usually in an entertaining manner. Wish I could explain better.
imo, Dinkins is insulting only to those he thinks deserve it. There can be a difference between those he thinks deserve it and those that actually deserve it.
Whenever I've been insulting to people, I've always felt guilty about it later. Sometimes it can take longer than others, but I've always come to feel guilty about it. This is why I've promised myself never to be insulting again. It just doesn't feel right to me. It probably had to do with all the teasing I had to endure at school when I was a kid. I guess this is probably why it is difficult for me to understand Dinkins.
god, that Zigfried was some character.
