Here’s a fun one.

http://www.cnn.com/2017/03/03/europe/polish-politician-remarks-women/

The European Parliament has launched a hate speech investigation into a Polish politician after he stated that “women must earn less than men, because they are weaker, they are smaller, they are less intelligent” during a debate this week on the gender pay gap.

Janusz Korwin-Mikke is an independent member of the European Parliament who founded a right-wing political party, the Coalition for the Renewal of the Republic – Freedom and Hope, in 2015. He has previously said that women should not be allowed to vote and was investigated for incitement to rape in 2014 over remarks he made to the European Parliament.

Hate speech investigation? Obviously, the European Parliament doesn’t value free speech?

*sigh* 😦

Question: when this guy made the remakes, did him make in Parliament, while Parliament was in session?

One political thread is probably all this forum can handle.

This wouldn’t be a thread for debate, just a thread for people to come up with funny names for a movie about the Trump Presidency. I would put in the first post of the thread, that if you want to debate anything anyone says in the thread, take to the “Politics 2: Electric Boogaloo” thread.

Pass.

The Place to Go for Emotional Support

Sorry to hear that, Mike. I wish I could give you some good advice, but this is out of my area of expertise. Maybe you should talk to your Dad’s doctor again, maybe your medications need adjusting. Have you seen the psychiatrist yet? If so, tell him that you feel you are backsliding. If not, maybe it is time to me with him. Keep in mind this is coming from someone that has little knowledge of what he is talking about. I hope and pray you get better.

In more important news, Jeff Sessions doesn’t like poor and/or minority voters. Big shocker there.

https://www.texastribune.org/2017/02/27/voter-id-case-trumps-team-drops-argument-against-texas/

I don’t get the argument at all that somehow minorities aren’t capable of getting an ID. It’s not unreasonable to need an ID to vote.

Just do a few seconds of Googling and you’ll find tons of evidence speaking to how this disenfranchises minorities and the poor (and the elderly). I assume you’ll just dismiss it, but it’s real.

I know, I’ve seen all that, but I still am not convinced that it’s a horrible obstacle to voting.

An obstacle doesn’t have to be “horrible” to be a violation of Constitutional rights.

It is more difficult to get a license if you were born before the Great Depression or in a completely rural area,

I would think I most of the people born before the Great Depression, probably shouldn’t have a driver’s license. Anyone born that long ago would be at least 88 years old. There needs to be some other form of ID that is usable at the polls other than driver’s licenses.

but it’s still doable and you have years to do it because we all know exactly when the elections will be.

Years? An election is held every year. Counting the primaries, every six months. So if they don’t want to miss any elections, they only have months to obtain the proper ID. It is not okay to disenfranchise even for primaries. It is a violation of their Constitutional rights.

The worse problem is election day not being on a Sunday and not treated as a holiday, but even that is remedied somewhat by early voting in states where that’s applicable.

I could understand making election day a holiday, but Sunday? Why Sunday? Why not Saturday?

Five-to-seven seasons is the longest any TV series should run. Eight-to-ten is pushing things a little too far. Eleven and up? That’s when you know zombification has set in.

What about Doctor Who?

Never watched any original Doctor Who, and all that material is precisely why I’m reluctant to try.

I prefer the original show to what’s happening with it now, there’s something in there for everyone. I’d recommend either The Aztecs or The War Games to get a glimpse at the show in its original form, and The Tomb of the Cybermen for the second incarnation. The third kicks off strong with Spearhead from Space, and I’d also recommend The Green Death. The Ark in Space or City of Death (written by none other than Douglas Adams!) for the fourth and most popular, but beyond that you go into the 80s, of which I’d say The Visitation is the only one I could recommend you.

Yeah, I see what you’re getting at. But it’s really great stuff some of the time, each of the stories I recommended are very different from the rest, so you’re bound to like at least one of them.

You do realize that “Spearhead from Space” comes right after "War Games’ right? You basically said that the show switches from it’s original form to its 2nd incarnation, back to its original form, and then to its third. ???

Huh? No, by “original form” I meant the show as it was under William Hartnell, then I said second incarnation, then third, and so on.

Oh, I actually meant The War Machines, not The War Games, whoops!

ah. Now it makes sense.

I didn’t actually watch much of it, just was looking for the worst rap song I could find. Kind of surprised to hear they did that.

I think it’s at least so bad that it’s good. They don’t call Jesus their “er”, they’re referring to him as a “niBBa” endearingly, and even so, that’s part of the joke. The joke is that these out-of-touch old white people are saying “niBBa” the same way a young black rapper may say it.

“niBBa”?

ni🅱🅱a?

what?

Yes, it’s been derived from the word “ni🅱🅱a.” I don’t have any personal problems with using “n- - -a” (which is the word spoken in the video, not “n - - - er”) but I wanted to err on the side of caution.

I fail to see a significant difference between the word that ends in “gga” and the one that ends in “gger”. Sorry, but I don’t.

Context.

A white person using it is still rather questionable though.

I agree that it’s questionable, but I wouldn’t jump down their throats for saying it if it’s in the context of “friend.”

Yeah but you’re (presumably) white.

I don’t know what gave you that impression.

Because I’m a moron and a bit accidentally-racist. Casually-racist? Dunno.

My apologies.

So let me start over. Are you black? If so, I’ll shut up. If not…then I stand by what I said (other than the “you’re white” part).

I didn’t say I wasn’t white 😛

In all seriousness, I’d rather not give too much information about who I am. I may not even be a human.

based on all your posts, I’d bet you are white.

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Ric_Olié

Ric Olié first appeared as a supporting character in Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace, where he was portrayed by Ralph Brown. Ric Olié is referred to by some fans as “Captain Obvious” due to dialogue that simply states well-observed facts, such as “There’s the blockade!,” “That’s it… Tatooine,” and “We didn’t hit it!”[3][4][5]

I believe he was calling you “Captain Obvious.”

oh.

?

I think that the difference between the two words comes from the context in which they’re used.

I disagree.

So…you use both hands too?

If the cup is almost full then yes I may use two hands to keep it steady.

I guess you have tiny hands just like our so-called President then.

Would you rather a President that uses one hand to drink a glass of water and talked about banning Muslims from coming into the country, or would you rather have President that uses two hands to drink a glass of water and never talked about banning Muslims from coming into the country?

Definitely the bigger-handed president. I don’t care what his Muslim-banning policy is, you can’t trust anyone with small hands.
