http://www.cnn.com/2017/05/22/politics/north-carolina-gerrymander/index.html

The Supreme Court struck down two congressional district maps in North Carolina Monday, holding that the state had engaged in an unconstitutional racial gerrymander.

The ruling is a victory for the black North Carolina voters who had argued the plans packed African-Americans in districts that already had a high percentage of African-Americans, thus diluting their presence in other districts.

As a result, the ruling sends the North Carolina legislature back to the drawing board – with significant potential implications for the 2018 midterm elections. The state has been nearly split along partisan lines in recent statewide elections – such as for governor and president – but Republicans control 10 US House seats compared to only three for Democrats.

Gorsuch did not participate, but it wouldn’t have mattered as the vote was 8-0 and 5-3 in the two different cases.

Why didn’t Gorsuch participate? He is on the court now. He already participated in one decision not to hear a case.

I don’t know in this particular case, but considering the length of cases in general, he may have been around for the opinion-writing section, and even most of the arguments, but if you weren’t on the court when the arguments started, it would be pretty expected not to participate.

Yeah, if he weren’t around when it started at the Supreme Court level, it could be argued that he shouldn’t participate in the ruling.

STOP HARSHING MY BUZZ!

Sorry! 12 Governorships! 12! Totally reasonable chance!

TRULY INSANE!!!

The Democrat Party has been ENTIRELY subsumed by the SAVAGELY DEPRAVED TOTALITARIAN Left and their Globalist puppet-masters.

The Republican party is completely in the thrall of PROFOUNDLY LEFT-WING Globalist-Fascists, with a bunch of right-wing private wannabe oligarchs selling them the rope.

What we are looking at is a show designed to systematically divide the denizens of North America exactly 50/50 to achieve a maximum culling.

Yeah, he was a decent guy, at least to me. I understand why he was banned, but it’s a shame that there are no outspoken conservative voices in the politics thread now.

I’m sure that situation will not last forever.

I suppose husezni could start posting there more.

Yay?

Nay! Hell Nay!

What we need are rational sane conservatives. husezni is not rational or sane.

Many people are saying it was wonderful that Mrs. Obama refused to wear a scarf in Saudi Arabia, but they were insulted. We have enuf enemies

8:40 AM - 29 Jan 2015

Let me get this straight, he complains about Mrs. Obama not wearing a scarf in 2015 and now Mrs. Trump isn’t wearing one. Isn’t the definition of hypocrisy? But I’m sure its ok cause I am sure I can fine evidence of the Clintons doing the same thing.

The law enforcement investigation into possible coordination between Russia and the Trump campaign has identified a current White House official as a significant person of interest, showing that the probe is reaching into the highest levels of government, according to people familiar with the matter.

The senior White House adviser under scrutiny by investigators is someone close to the president, according to these people, who would not further identify the official.

The revelation comes as the investigation also appears to be entering a more overtly active phase, with investigators shifting from work that has remained largely hidden from the public to conducting interviews and using a grand jury to issue subpoenas. The intensity of the probe is expected to accelerate in the coming weeks, the people said.

The sources emphasized that investigators remain keenly interested in people who previously wielded influence in the Trump campaign and administration but are no longer part of it, including former national security adviser Michael Flynn and former campaign chairman Paul Manafort.

Flynn resigned in February after disclosures that he had lied to administration officials about his contacts with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak. Current administration officials who have acknowledged contacts with Russian officials include President Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, as well as Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.

Please be Sessions…please be Sessions…please be Sessions…

This is only opinion and speculation and no evidence given.

Also . . . Hillary Clinton!

So there!

I do enjoy watching actors have fun with evil versions of their characters, but they went to that well a few too many times.

Besides, it’s a little off-putting that they only bi-sexual character in Star Trek is from the Evil Universe.

Wasn’t Jadzia Dax implied to be bisexual?

Dax was, but Jadzia? not sure.

I was watching clips on youtube of the episodes of Ds9 that take place in the mirror universe. In “Through The Looking Glass”, Sisko-prime takes the place of Sisko-mirror who had died. Apparently, there had been romance going on between Sisko-mirror and Jadzia-mirror. In one scene Sisko-prime pretending to be Sisko-mirror, starts kissing Jadzia-mirror and then the scene fades to black. In “Shattered Mirror”, Sisko-prime returns to the mirror universe. When Jadzia-mirror first sees Sisko-prime in that episode, she slaps hims and says “that’s for making love to me under false pretenses”. If “making love” means having sex, doesn’t this mean that Sisko-prime is technically guilty of rape? Jadzia-mirror thought she was having relations with Sisko-mirror, not Sisko-mirror? Isn’t having sex with someone when they think you are someone else, technically rape?

(I wasn’t sure where to put this so, depending on how this goes, we might have to move the conversation out of this thread and into the politics thread. We shall see.)
