And as for Returns, I don’t see how it isn’t a good Batman film.

https://youtu.be/N4_dIwQg3aM?t=2m5s

bad, stupid, silly dialogue?

That’s bad, stupid silly dialogue?

no,no,no. I was saying the movie has a lot of bad, silly, stupid dialogue. I wasn’t talking about that scene. I was giving 3 reasons why the movie isn’t good.

  1. the scene I posted
  2. bad silly stupid dialogue
  3. terrible penguin

Edit: There is bad dialogue in thin scene I posted. “Who are you? Who’s the man behind the bat? Maybe you can help me find the woman behind the cat”

How many movies have you seen?

a lot.

I’ve tried to like Batman Returns because I enjoy Batman '89 so much, but no matter which way I look at it, I can’t stomach it. Most offending is the horrid portrayal of Penguin. If people are going to get hung up on the accuracy of character portrayals, how can anyone find the transformation of that villain from the “Gentleman of Crime” to the disgusting DeVito representation as acceptable is beyond me. People get hung up on the realism of the Nolan trilogy whenever anything unrealistic happens, but Returns even violates the Burton suspension of disbelief on multiple occasions. Last time I watched it, I was determined to enjoy it. And I didn’t.

I agree

Soundtrack is great, though. Danny Elfman is my favorite movie composer, even above John Williams.

*rips up darth-ender’s Star Wars fan membership card and throws him out of the forum*

There is no better movie composer than John Williams.

(Don’t even mention Chris Nolan, those films aren’t Batman or even comic book at all.)

They aren’t‽‽‽‽‽

No, they aren’t. I actually like TDK as a movie (Though there are still some problems in there), but it still isn’t a true representation of Batman as far as I’m concerned. And none of Nolan’s films are good comic book movies. Everything about them is realism-driven, which just makes it worse when something unrealistic happens, and even aside from that, I don’t want a comic book movie that tries to distance itself from being a comic book. If you like them, that’s fine. I much prefer the wonderful comic book world of Burton’s films.

I can understand thinking that the first Burton Batman movie was a true representation of Batman, but Batman Returns? Batman Forever‽ Batman and Robin‽‽‽ Bat nipples? Bat credit card‽‽‽‽ Sorry, but I’ll take the any of the Nolan films over the final 3 of Burton era easy.

Batman Forever and Batman and Robin aren’t Tim Burton films, they’re Joel Schumacher films, and they suck.

Yes but all four are part of the same series of movies.

So WaPo is reporting that Trump is under investigation by Mueller for possible obstruction of justice, and there’s also a report that Trump floated the idea of firing Mueller publicly in order to influence Mueller to go easy on the investigation.

Amazing.

I hope he does fire Mueller it will add ammunition to the case.

More to the case, yes… but with nobody left to prosecute it.

I think a lot of people underestimate how lucky we are to have a Special Prosecutor in the first place. If the stars hadn’t aligned just right, the only things checking the power of this menace would have been the House, the Senate, and the courts. And while the courts are doing an admirable job going it alone on the whole checks and balances business, there are some things they simply lack the legal authority to do.

There’s this school of thought that if Trump indirectly fires Mueller by cycling through justice department heads just like Nixon did (he can’t fire him directly), that this will lead to widespread outrage, and that this outrage will lead to Trump’s goose finally being cooked. But what’s missing from this theory is the legal mechanism and authority that would cause Trump’s downfall. Courts can’t do it. House and Senate won’t do it. 25th amendment? Pfft, Trump’s own hand-picked cabinet of sycophants won’t do it. Voters? Show me how any amount of voter outrage can work against this map to do anything but give Trump an even friendlier Senate than he already has, and don’t even talk about House maps. Where’s the realistic path? Are we counting on military coups now? [Different, friendly] foreign interventions? Alien abductions?

Mueller is all we have. Please don’t wish for him to be fired just so you can feel the rush of righteous indignation, because it would only be followed by the utter incredulity of watching nobody doing anything about it.

Nixon did it and there was still a mechanism that eventually led to his downfall.

I don’t consider Batman Returns a Batman film as much as I consider it a Burton film, but I still love it way more than any of the Nolan movies.

I have no idea why anyone would think that. I think Batman Returns is terrible. Batman tricked into taking it easy on Catwoman because “I’m a woman!”‽‽‽‽ Seriously‽ The Danny Devito’s Penguin just isn’t an effect villain. Nor is Max Shrek. I can easily watch Batman Begins and TDK and even TDKR over and over again. I have no desire to ever watch Batman Returns ever again.

Laptop screen problem
Time

Hi, Maybe one of you guys with more tech knowledge than I can help me out. Earlier today, I dropped something on my laptop. The screen immediately scrambled, and it has stayed that way. It is hard to describe what it looks like. It has a white area and black area and there are lines mostly vertical and a few horizontal. I tried turning the laptop on and off. I removed the battery and turned it back on and got the same scrambled screen. I was able to hook the laptop an external monitor via an HDMI cable. The picture on the external monitor looks fine. The laptop seems to operate fine. I don’t seem to have any problems with using connected to the external monitor(I am posting this from the laptop in question). Any ideas what could be causing this weirded out screen? Any advice on how to fix it?

A question for you Ukers:

What would have happened if the Conservatives had won a majority of the seats of Parliament, but Theresa May lost her own seat?

The Tories would then hold a leadership election - their MP’s vote for the leader of their party (IIRC). Usually the PM is in one of the safest seats in the country - can’t recall a PM ever losing their own seat - but could happen…

I don’t understand, why would the Tories hold a leadership election? I said in my question that the Conservatives won a majority number of seats. So, wouldn’t be the Conservatives holding a leadership election?

Warb, Tories and Conservatives are the same thing.

oh, shows you how much I know about UK politics.
