what I’m doing is analyzing the concept of white privilege and making the claim that it is a racist concept.

Would you have made the same claim if it were, oh, say, the year 1800 ?

Of course not. Our country is constantly evolving and changing. Abolishment of slavery, civil rights movement, etc.

Racism is still not solved though.

I do not believe that racism plays a role as a major obstacle anymore for someone to succeed in America. You actually have an extra advantage when it comes to college admissions if your of color. I fail to see any substantial evidence that racism still is a major obstacle for black people to succeed.

Holy shit man.

I see my claim surprises you.

It doesn’t surprise me, it disgusts me, and this is the last post I’m making on the subject.

I’m surprised nobody has said that they’re “color blind” yet.

Yeah another ridiculous thing. Now it is racist to for one to say they are “color blind”. That used to be a positive thing to be, now it is racist.

It’s not racist, per se, but it’s not helpful.

why isn’t being “color blind” helpful? Isn’t it the direct opposite of being racist?

Race is still a huge problem in America. Notice how almost all police shootings target black people?

I don’t know how true that is, I do know whenever there is a police shooting of a black person that is in any way suspicious, it makes headlines. I can’t say the same for police shootings of white people.

btw, notice how the officer is almost always presumed guilty by groups like Black Lives Matter?

Warbler, your spot on here. Being color blind is what we should strive for in a fight to end all racism. And I cited some eye opening statistics a few posts earlier than yours about how there is not nearly as much discrimination when it comes to police brutality towards blacks as the media may want you to believe.

Jesus Christ. How are we supposed to solve racism if we don’t acknowledge race‽

I mean to say that we should not acknowledge the race of someone when evaluating them for college or a job. Those positions should be judged purely on merit and not at all with race. I hope that clears up more on what I think it means to be “color blind”. I can easily understand how you can interpret it to mean something else and want to make sure we’re on the same page.

exactly. colorbind doesn’t mean you don’t acknowledge the existence of color, it means you don’t see color. Its mean you don’t judge by color of skin but by character.

You can’t solve a problem if you don’t acknowledge the roots of it. You have to acknowledge that people eat crappy pizza everyday if you want to fix that!

Why would being colorbind have to mean that you fail to acknowledge the roots of racism?

You know, I am starting to believe whenever a term becomes popular to use to say that one is not racist, that term is going to be deemed to be wrong and racist to use.

Whatever pain women and minorities are experiencing is not my fault. I am not the one doing it. I am not and have never been anyone’s boss, so I have never had the opportunity to discriminate against anyone, and if I ever get the opportunity I will try as best as I can to treat everyone fairly. I’ve never raped or molested any women and never would. I always try as best as I can to treat women and minorities with respect. I don’t use racial slurs. I am more than willing to vote for women and minorities at election time. If any pain is coming from me, I don’t do it consciously and it is very, very, minor. Blame it on the men and white people who are really causing the pain. Just became I am a white male, does not mean that I am the problem.

I don’t think that’s the claim. The claim is that you (and I) have probably been the beneficiary of white privilege. Which then opens the door to the possibility that maybe we should be working to help correct it, even if we aren’t the cause.

Here’s a two minute clip where Jordan Peterson perfectly sums up why the idea of white privilege is absolutely reprehensible and dangerous to society and how it is a very racist concept.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZK9h_Mzmu8

I’m not watching a video “explaining” anything but he appears to be a white person.

I’m a white male, I could never possibly understand these things.

Hopefully someday you and the rest will (and you most certainly can), and the world will be a better place.

Yeah, I know, I make the world such a horrible place right now.

This is the kind of shit that makes it impossible to reach a point of understanding.

No the kind sh** that makes it impossible to reach a point of understand are articles like the ones posted yesterday.

No.

Yes.

4. Keep in Touch. At the moment you don’t feel enthusiastic about anything but as an exercise contacting people who you have any kind of friendly relations or past with can have a genuinely positive effect.

All of your points for Mike O are great, but I wanted to comment on this specifically because it’s something that is offered as advice in a lot of scenarios and people have told me this a lot and I just don’t get it. I think it’s probably a feeling somewhat unique to me, but people just disgust me. Being within twenty feet of anyone other than a few exceptions makes me want to scream. I’m not a sociopath at all, I’m actually extremely empathetic almost to a fault in that I obsess over how I can go about doing things without harming or inconveniencing anyone, plus I get furious whenever I hear about people getting mistreated. The really funny thing, though, is that I get quite lonely, but it only takes a single interaction with one of my so-called “friends” (which never fails to remind me of why they sicken me and why I never want to see them again) to realize that the only experience worse than overwhelming loneliness is talking to fucking people. Like I said, I’m generally alone in this opinion, but it’s something that I see all the time as a supposed ingredient for happiness and I can’t even imagine having a circle of people that I would enjoy meeting with regularly. Sorry to derail the thread.

Not really sure what to say to this as I am unsure what it is about your so called “friends” that makes them sicken you and why you think overwhelming loneliness is better than talking to people.

If you absorb yourself in people with these viewpoints, you will eventually change your mind. I knew I was much more closer to Warbler’s position at one point, then, progressively, I became more progressive.

Now, for some people, this might backfire, and you might start to hate these progressive points of view. But I’m sure Warbler can do it.

I think you are just going to have to settle for me being the way I am.

Someone linked this a few months back.

https://web.archive.org/web/20170106034154/https://xyfeminist.wordpress.com/the-male-privilege-list/

I started to read that but when I read the names of the first two privileges and I stopped reading the thing. The privilege to kill and rape. Last I heard, those things were illegal in my country and many others. So, no, those are not things we have the privilege to do. Some people unfortunately get away with those things because there just isn’t enough evidence to convict, but that is quite different than having the privilege of doing them.

I could tell just from the start of the article that it was just the same usual crap and I don’t feel like getting into it anymore for now.

Articles like that are making me feel more and more that rational conversation about these issues can no longer be had.

btw, there is something weird going on with the video at the top of the article. It plays for about 45 seconds and then it reloads.
