STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 REVISITED ADYWAN *1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION
Time

^ I fully agree with what RogueLeader has said. A brilliant and unobtrusive way of including a little Easter egg and nod to the prequels as despite what anyone may think of them, they are part of the saga.

Most people would likely miss it as well unless pointed out to them which makes for a fun little “oh shit, you’re right!” moment.

Nice idea for a thread, maybe clean up the OP a little (rather than looking like a brain to text dump) so you’ve got an official list you can add to as other people offer up more links 😃

I’d probably put Ady’s Star Wars Revisited page into the same category as The Star Wars Trilogy page. Though obviously not quite so big, you can still get lost there for a good few hours reading up on each revisited project and update posts on their progress:

Ranking the Star Wars films

Perhaps I should provide a similar list. It’d raise some eyebrows, I reckon.

Eyebrows need raising otherwise we’d all fall asleep from boredom ;P

Here is my list based on Snooker’s “canon enjoyment” format with some slight revisions:

 • Any novels listed are ordered based on how I feel I would enjoy them as a movie adaptation.
 • Games are listed separately due to how differently I enjoy them versus movies, such that it doesn’t make sense to me for them to be in the same list.

MOVIES
-SW, TESB & ROTJ (film) - While TESB is undoubtedly the best, I enjoy all 3 movies equally as one complete saga.
-R1 (film) - After additional viewings this is now my favourite Disney era SW movie.
-ROTS (film) - “Dark Force Rising” edit by Kerr
-TPM (film) - “Anti-Cheese” edit by Jeremy M West
-AOTC (film) - “Anti-Cheese” edit by Jeremy M West
-Heir to the Empire Vol.1 (novel)
-The Last Command Vol.3 (novel)
-Dark Force Rising Vol.2 (novel)
-TFA (film) - “Restructured” edit by Hal9000 (unfortunately this movie has tumbled down my list thanks to TLJ)
-TLJ (film) - Likely Ivan Ortega’s edit, will probably still hate the movie though…

GAMES
-Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II (PC)
-Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcase (PC)
-Star Wars Episode I: Racer (PC)
-Star Wars: X-Wing (PC)
-Star Wars - The Empire Strikes Back (Amiga)
-Super Star Wars (SNES)
-Star Wars Battlefront 2015 (PC)

Below are my previous rankings:

 3. R1 (theatrical)
 4. ROTS (Kerr Fanedit “Dark Force Rising”)
 5. TPM (Anti-cheese Fanedit)
 6. AOTC (Anti-cheese Fanedit)
 7. TLJ

Ads on Original Trilogy
Time

Just some feedback on the ads banner - I’ve lost count of the amount of times the home page has loaded and I’ve gone to click on ‘General Star Wars Discussion’ on both the PC and my phone, only for the ad banner to pop into existence right in the same spot (pushing everything else down) a split second before I click/touch the forum link, taking me to whatever page the advert is linked to.

Very annoying, is there anyway to preset the space it needs so the page doesn’t shift down when the banner loads in? Or place it somewhere else where it won’t have this affect? I understand it’s importance in helping offset the costs of hosting OT.com but it’s getting pretty old quite quickly…

Ranking the Star Wars Soundtracks

Ultimately, like I said, it’s up to you, but it is piracy. If they release the OOT officially are you going to download that illegally too? Same logic.

As said, I haven’t ever seen the original soundtracks for sale anywhere. I’ll look into it but I don’t think they’re actually available outside non official retailers, meaning they fall into the same category for sharing copies as the DSEs do. This site well knows the grey area it falls into and I think this is where the OOT soundtracks now fall into as well. I will see if I can confirm that though before proceeding further in obtaining them via other means.

No, this isn’t accurate. They’re readily and officially available on vinyl and digital (not just iTunes, but also places where you can get them at higher bitrates). The analogy to the OOT would be if Lucasfilm officially released them on Blu-ray and digital, and you justified pirating them because there wasn’t a DVD release.

Not to make an argument of the matter, but what about in the case where your sound system does not support vinyl or digital music playback? My father for instance has an 80s Bose satellite with passive subwoofer hi-fi system that hooks up through a custom amplifier to a 90s Pioneer CD player (one where you placed the disc upside down on essentially the CD version of a vinyl turn table lol). Basically the only way of listening to music on his hi-fi system is via CD.

That aside, I ended up picking up the below via eBay a couple of months back 😄 Very happy to have a legit collection that still has Lapti Nek and the original ROTJ end music with Yub Nub 😛

PS. Was thinking of trying to scan the booklet into a single PDF, if anyone wants a copy shoot me a PM 😉

The CGI faces for Tarkin and Leia were my biggest peeve with RO (which I all round love on 2nd and 3rd viewings) as they were instantly uncanny valley for me as soon as the faces became visible and especially when they talked. Keeping Tarkin in the distance in a wide shot and only seeing the back of Leia would have been MUCH better and is all that was required to include and pay homage to their characters.

I’m going back on my previous decision, and using Sir Ridley’s removal of Chewie from the offending shot of Leia. 😃

Nice! Leia ignoring Chewie to hug Rey in acknowledging Han’s death after only knowing each other for a day or two at most was wrong on so many levels and is obviously an attempt to elevate Rey’s profile and importantance amongst the bigger original characters. It falls on its face though because it was never earned.

Yes, Adywan accepts donations, but these don’t make nearly enough to cover the costs of his project, and paypal donations are more of a personal offering than a patreon subscription or buying lame t-shirts. Same goes for film restoration projects where multiple members pitch money to order the reels and such, this is not unethical. You won’t find Adywan on youtube begging for monthly payments so he can sit in front of a computer and change musical queues until he’s blue in the face, Adywan actually uses great amounts of resources, time, and effort, yet I’m sure he doesn’t come close to breaking even.

Just for the record and to be clear, I am not saying otherwise to any of what you said above.

The ONLY time money should be involved in fan projects is when they invest their OWN hard earnings into their OWN resources to complete the tasks at hand, that’s an unfortunate reality that must be grasped by everyone who invests their time into shit like this.

I agree with the additional exception of Adywan’s case where a collective donation effort is solely for helping fund the edit process itself but no personal profit is ever taken from the donations.

The oddly masked hilt is a big indicator that this is not at the level of Adywan. It’s not terrible, but it’s certainly not a filmed prop or at the level of Adywan’s miniature or fx work.

I never meant it as a direct literal comparison 😉

Don’t get all the hate for Ivan. All Youtubers use Patreon. I understand why some might consider it an ethical issue, but its out of our control. Drop it and get over it. He’s gonna be remembered as one of the greatest fan editors because of what he’s doing to TLJ.

I wouldn’t say it is hate, just frustration instead that he seems to be tossing all caution to the wind and doing something that is a fan editing 101 no-no which imperils the entire fan editing community. It all comes down to the reasons for collecting money from people and for what purpose. If it was just to support his channel so he could produce more content for his supporters or in the example scenario I posted about above regarding contracting out his professional work while making free edits on the side, then it wouldn’t be an issue.

But seeing that it is solely his editing of someone else’s copyright material which causes people to pay him money to continue doing that very same thing, he has generated a recurring income using that copyright material. It’s probably the next worst thing beside actually selling his edit for profit.

Whether his edit ends up being any good is also yet to be seen. His reasons for fixing narrative and character details through smart edits and use of better music is really promising on top of some great cuts and rearrangements of scenes and some very interesting ideas in restructuring the film to an extent to tell a much more compelling and Star Wars like story. But it’s not till we view the completed edit that we can tell whether it will all come together as a cohesive and well made edit or not.

I feel like comparing Ivan to Adywan is disingenuous to say the least.

How is what I said being disingenuous? I’m not saying Ivan is or will be the next Adywan, but that if he can pull off some of the really out there radical edit ideas that many people are sceptical of then it would be similar to how Ady initially had his own sceptics but in the end blew people away with what he was able to do and set new precedents for what people think is possible to do in a fan edit. I feel Ivan is likewise pushing and testing those boundaries and we get to decide whether what he does actually works or not.

It would only serve the narrative that we’re the bad guys who oppose him at this point. I doubt Disney/Lucasfilm keeps track of banned members from Star Wars forums. They don’t even seem to check the social media of people they allow to podcast/blog from Celebration.

If they return we’ll deal with it then.

Fair enough. I’ve seen threads simply discussing his edit on FE.org get locked so I just figured a similar response would occur on here as a means of clearly showing no support for such practices.

Back to discussing the edit itself and it’s apparent imminent completion, from what I understand he is just waiting on some finishing touches for the Luke and Kylo costumes after which they will be traveling to location to film the new lightsaber battle scene (which they can now do in one take at full speed) and then it simply needs integrating into the movie and final polishing done on the edit. Ivan then intends to release a 2nd and final trailer and straight after information on the website to where you can obtain the edit for free.

I just hope he can do some magic on those voiceovers because while it is a valiant effort and great idea in theory, the end result as far as the 1st trailer goes just doesn’t quite work.

All up though and shady stuff aside, it’s a very ambitious and radical edit and I think it will be an amazing achievement of fan editing if he can pull it off. Much like Adywan initially received some incredulous criticism and mockery when first stating what he was setting out to do with his Revisited edits only for them to become one of the gleaming examples of what is actually possible from a passionate fan editor, I believe Ivan also has the potential to break new ground and set another level of how fan editing can save what is IMHO an un-saveable movie.

The Mandalorian - Star Wars live action TV series : Non Spolier thread
Time

I am actually quite interested in this despite my current feelings towards the Disney era of Star Wars (R1 aside which I generally think is awesome). Already having a Netflix subscription though, I can say now that I won’t paying for a regular subscription to Disney+ (Disney’s new streaming service) just to watch this series. In saying that, if they allow you to cancel the subscription at any time without additional fees, then providing The Mandalorian gets good reviews and feedback then I might be persuaded to pay for a month and just binge all the episodes once they have all been released.

Well if Greig Fraser is going to be the cinematographer, I wouldn’t doubt this series will look as good as a Star Wars movie. The last thing I want is a low-budget look.

And I like the idea of this being set around a lone character, I really like the idea of smaller scope stories in the Star Wars universe and not having everything overlap so much.

Same, this definitely appeals to me in getting to see interesting stories set in the same universe that don’t have to revolve around the central Rebellion vs Empire conflict or even Jedi for that matter. Being set after the fall of the Empire also opens up a lot of possibilities.

Mangold was supposedly set to direct a theatrical spin-off film about Boba Fett akin to Solo, though that was never officially confirmed by Lucasfilm. If that was the case, it now looks like that’s been put on the backburner as they’ve decided to slowdown after the performance of Solo at the box office.

SilverWook said:

DominicCobb said:

Is that costume real or CGI?

If they’ve started shooting already, it’s amazing they kept a lid on it this long.

I’d put money on a guess that this series was originally pre-production work for a Boba Fett movie and simply has been repurposed as a new streaming series instead when Bob Iger announced they were “slowing down” and Disney put an indefinite hold on all other “A Star Wars Story” movies. This stops the effort and cost involved going to waste and makes for a great incentive to entice viewers across to their new streaming service.

Anyway, will be an interesting production to keep an eye on that has a lot of promising potential at this point.

If you’ve followed the thread, it’s unlikely he would ever return to this forum.

I have and also re-read through it all again last night and I agree that he likely will never return. It’s more our apparent “response” to finding out he is making a profit from editing the movie that I thought may be important if faced with the mouse coming down hard on the matter. Banning his account and only leaving the thread open as a means of discussing his editing choices and methods I thought might be a prudent course to take. Of course that is for yourself, the other mods and Jay to decide.
