Info Wanted: What Ever Happened To PAY IT FORWARD?

Where does it say you have to make an edit to be able to get an edit? That's hardly fair.

Who said life is fair?

He meant that the only way to guarantee your ownership of an edit is to make it yourself, which is spot on.

There are two ways to obtain an edit...get it yourself, or rely on ther kindness of others.  And if you're gonna rely on kindness, then you have to be prepared for disappointment.

I've only had two or three instances of getting physical media from people here and for the record, those members were very generous and helpful.

Waterworld ABC Cut? A ton of info - see McFly's posts for details (Released)

joebshmoe said: hi UA - did you actually plan on doing this?

Plan, yes. I started the composite back when I first got the disc and got about an hour into the cut before I realised that I didn't want an "every scrap of footage" edit after all, so I started going with my own choices as to when to go theatrical and when to go TV. In other words, it'll be no good for anyone wanting a complete version.

I'd say it's probably about 75% finished, but not actively being worked on right now.

Info: About this whole Indy 4 debate.

In terms of crazy lists, it's probably worth mentioning that the loudest voices in the Indy thread belong to people who have stated that they aren't actually doing an edit themselves.

They just really, really want someone else to do it for them. (Apparently, they are doing all the "hard work" and the editing itself should be a piece of cake when following their step-by-step guide.)

I AM NOT, and will not get into a war over this.

No one asked you to. This is just a discussion, not a fight. You started the thread...was it to hear other viewpoints, or just to shoot down a (theoretical) fan edit that you don't like the sound of?

For the record, I actually agree that the gigantic, nitpicky list in the Indy 4 thread is a but silly, but it's not hurting anyone is it?

If someone was to actually make all those changes, what difference would it make to those of us who won't watch it?

Assuming for the sake of argument that this statement is true, who is it that decides which films should be "left alone"?

Are you declaring yourself the ultimate arbiter of what films may be edited?

If you love a film the way it is, just don't download a fan edit of it. It's a simple solution, and the best part is...it takes no effort whatsoever. Yay!

Kingdom of the Crystal Skull Edit Suggestions

HeKS said: So even after the reconciliation at the end of LC, they still make it clear that he wants to keep using Indiana and not switch to Henry Jones Jr.

The finale of LC takes place 18 years prior to KotCS...people change. It's clear from Skull that Indy is both:

A. Now comfortable with being Henry Jones, jr. He now uses it as his name in professional circles, ie: at college.
B. Still thinks of himself as Indy first and foremost. His first instinct when meeting Ox is to call himself Indiana.

In my opinion, however, no explanation would be good enough considering the movie is called INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL

And the main character is Indiana Jones. Just because he has another name that he uses, doesn't really change that. No one is saying that he should or does go by Henry, jr. exclusively.

It's no different to Bruce Wayne being the main character in "Batman Begins".

Either way, it's not as though I have an objection to someone "Indy-ing" up the dialogue. :)

I dunno...I kind of figured that it was symbolic of where he is in life now. His acceptance of the name Henry would come from bonding with his father years earlier, and I can imagine it healing the old wounds that led to him adopting "Indy" in the first place*.

Characters can grow and change, even if fans often don't want them to. :)

*Though I haven't seen a lot of the Young Indy Chronicles, so I have no idea when the name was introduced in those stories.

Max_Rebo said: The review says the video quality on the extended version isn't great, what's you opinion on that?

I think it looks pretty damn good, actually.  Certainly better than we've ever seen it before.  And arguably not far from the quality of the regular version.

Here's some caps...(theatrical cut caps are first)

I also know that InfoDroid and UncannyAntman are planning on doing edits

Mine probably won't be the kind of thing anyone will look forward to.  Not only is it a long way off, but I think it will be a much gentler cut than what most people would like.

It looks like Info may be going the less-conventional route again with Crystal Skull.  (A non-linear cut, like his Temple edit)   Sounds like it could be really interesting.

If someone was to overlay the fullscreen image with the widescreen one, what aspect ratio would that measure out to?

It wouldn't be anything.  Neither would fill out the other to the corners, so you'd just get a cross-shaped image.

The very last image does lend some credibility to the claim of a wider aspect ratio...notice the left side is pan 'n scanned further to the left than the widescreen version actually shows.  So there's definitely image info available that isn't being presented on the 1:85 copy.
