Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)

I think it might actually be an intentional change. Maybe they were trying to conceal the AT-ATs' feet being hazy by making it appear that there was actually a misty haze on the ground level, because it does look a little less like the AT-ATs are floating in the air.

And the disgustingly smeared and burnt "detail" on the foreground figures?   I think you're being too generous by assuming they had a specific goal in mind.    ...and I for one never thought there was any problem with the AT-AT/ground interaction.

FWIW, it doesn't sound like JEJ to me either. Maybe one day I'll do a frequency spectrum comparison, but maybe not.

I've never believed it either.  And for the record, I doubt that some of Vader's dialogue from Ep III is JEJ too.   "Where is Padme?  Is she safe, is she alright?" sounds like him, but the following lines about "I?  I couldn't have, she was alive!" sound very un-JEJ to me.  They seem 'thin' and processed just like the "Prepare for my arrival" from ESB.

And unless they changed the view from the inside, this creates a huge continuity error as the door is over twice as big on the outside now and the curvature and height of the door has been changed.

They just don't seem to give a shit about introducing new errors.  Cloud City windows, palace doors, rocks, droid innards...

As mad as I am right now, it's still possible to be madder.

Via bigshinyrobot.com, a quote attributed to "someone" at Lucasfilm:

"Yes, the updates are confirmed. We hope fans will wait to see for themselves how they fit into the Saga before making any judgments."

So in other words,"Give us your money first, then complain all you want."  Pathetic.  I'll judge all I want right now, because I'm sure as shit not giving them any money, and I will never sit through these versions of the OT.

Like samlark, I don't even care if GL gets the message or not.  I just don't have the energy to care any more.  I don't like being this angry about movies, so I'll just stick with my old multiple copies and be happy.

I'm sure this will still sell really well, because 98% of the purchases will come from people who won't even notice most of the changes.  Whatever.  Well done, Georgie-boy.  **Sigh**

I was never a purist before...but this time?  Jeeezus!

This is the first time I've actually felt the GL disdain right down in my belly.

Ewok eyes: I don't care.

Dug in Jabba's palace: No big deal.

New rocks and Palace gate:  Looks terrible.

Krayt dragon scream terrible: I feel a little sick.

Vader's 'new lines' in ROTJ: Cancelled pre-order.  More than anything else he's done, this is the last straw for me.  Today, it physically hurts to be a Star Wars fan.

Edited to change "whiner" to "purist".   The former is too insulting.

Wait, now we're angry that they are making more changes?   Boy, I can't keep up with what is an acceptable change and what isn't.

Oh, c'mon... that's the old "nobody will ever be satisfied" straw man.  It's really quite easy: in the absence of a decent release of the theatrical version, the only acceptable changes would be those that UNDO the changes that have been made between 1983 and 2006.

My only point was that people seemed quick to jump on the new Wicket eyes, but when Ady does it (or Yoda gets replaced wholesale) it's mostly embraced.

For the record (not that there is one) I'm no Lucas apologist, but I'm not one to brand every move he makes heresy either.

Using MS Paint, I traced over characters introduced in the OT with blue, then I traced over characters introduced in the PT with green.

(the ones I didn't trace over are ones I don't know)

Seriously, look how much green (PT characters) there are than blue (OT characters). Notice how they made Vader, R2, and 3P0 huge compared to the other characters just to try and make the OT seem a bit bigger. roflmao

You colored Palpatine and Chewie with green.  :)

(Granted, the images of them are prequel ones, but that's beside the "introduced in" point. ;) )

Ideas Wanted: for a ...Sucker Punch as a straight action movie edit -- SPOILERS
Time

No, there is no footage of Baby Doll dancing.  The idea was that you would never see it, so I don't believe they filmed anything other than the swaying she does leading into and out of a dance.

I have to say, I do think the approach you're looking at makes very little sense.   The girls are mega-super-action heroes who fight robots, giant samurai, orcs, and dragons with a vast array of weaponry, but are unable to escape from one little mustache-man?

That's not to hate on it, just how I feel.  :)

Blade Runner: The Version You've Never Seen Before (Update: Beta Released)

The zhora edit is a jump cut intended for dramatic effect and is part of the deleted scene itself.

But the deleted scenes montage is not meant to indicate cuts in the actual film, it simply skips over stuff that is not needed for the montage itself.   Naturally, you can cut it however you want, but you shouldn't infer that the film ever intended to cut the way it does in the deleted stuff.

TRON: LIBERTY *** QUICK UPDATE *** (* unfinished project *)
Time

I had real trouble myself doing a Tron edit late last year.  Ended up calling it a day, but planning to go back to it as soon as the new one is released.  (Fingers crossed the new transfer makes a lot of my 'fixes' redundant.)

I wasn't trying to make it look like Legacy, just to lose some of the grey drabness, and fix a few effects bits and pieces.   Champing at the bit to try again in April.

An brief example of what mine looked like...

(Don't expect anything too drastic.)  :)
