Conversely in R1, Vader could simply not levitate the rebel in that corridor. But even more logically consistent would be if he was slow and plodding and actually got hit a few times given that he’s not quite what he once was. But that wouldn’t quite make Vader as menacing as his reputation suggested he was.

Both solutions are far more logical and would allow the films to ‘sync up’ better. But would make each scene individually not as good.

That’s pretty much what I was asking for, and since I didn’t really think the scene was that good to begin with, it doesn’t really bother me. I feel like it could be better executed to still make Vader menacing without looking like a video game and Vader-worship.

I enjoy being serviced. But only when it is done well.

Oh my.

Awww shucks. You caught my strategically and intentionally placed corny double entendre.

I see all!

All I can really say is it just doesn’t gel with his actions in the original for me, I tried articulating it but couldn’t really get the words right. You’re correct in not being able to think of a single time Vader using his lightsaber in other situations would have worked, but I would think that would help in saying it doesn’t really work well here. Would Vader go on the boarding party in the first place, is the real question? Every time he appears in action, like on Hoth or the Tantive, he’s there after most of the work has been dealt with. Yes, there’s the time element, but to me it’s not something Vader would really do.

I disagree. I think with this much at risk, it totally makes sense for him to take things into his own hands. There’s never a time in the OT where this much is at stake. Regarding the Tantive; the Rebels were already caught, there was nowhere they could go.

Nothing suggests to me he’d go apeshit either, Vader has always been a character on the verge of outward rage, but acts on it in a very collected manner.

I don’t think Vader was as rage-filled as you make it seem like he was. He was quick, efficient and brutal sure, but he was never Kylo Ren level angry.

I agree with this, more or less.

I think the first time we see Vader truly angry is when Luke outplays him at the end of Empire.

Should the sequel trilogy spoil the OT?

This is too much. Just watch in release order. Simple as that.

Minus the prequels…

Will anyone give a rat’s ass about the PT ten years from now if the ST concludes successfully?

Does anyone give a rat’s ass about the PT now?

Millennials

Millennial who doesn’t care checking in!

Just saw it again tonight with the parents. Even better the second time around. The end is more emotional because you know where it’s going. The characters feel better. The action is better. The score is better.

Saw it with my parents, who haven’t seen a Star Wars movie in years and they still caught onto most of the OT references and said they might actually have enjoyed it more than Star Wars, and with my brother again, who hated TFA and agreed with me that RO was better the second time around.

Nothing to add, nothing to retract. A fantastic Star Wars film.

The OT relies on itself to build its story, so it should be seen first at all costs. The sequels, and even Rogue One, rely on the OT to continue that story and work as well as they do. For that reason, I don’t think it’s important for the sequel trilogy not to spoil any OT twists, it’s a continuation of that story, the revelations have already been made. I want to know how these characters deal with those revelations, heck they can even be made new again to the new characters. I don’t think it’s important to maintain any mystery revealed in the OT. The prequels, on the other hand, are another story.

I agree more or less. It’d be hard to continue the Skywalker storyline in the ST without talking about the reveals made in the OT.

Why do we suddenly have to confirm every character’s sexual orientation these days? Two dudes can’t be friends now without being gay? Is this grade school?

Whoooooo caaaaaaaaares.

Why can’t two guys be friends who are also more than friends? Like I said they seemed pretty gay to me, but I thought it was cool the didn’t bash you over the head with it.

Though I will say I bet gay people care a bit, considering there haven’t been any (confirmed, I mean seriously Threepio) in a SW movie yet.

Sure they can, but they came across as nothing more brotherly fellows to me. But I guess that’s “pretty gay”?

I’m sure you’re joking about Threepio considering he’s a droid but I mean in my experience, you can’t really distill “what makes someone homosexual” down to their mannerisms.

My complaint is just why is there so much emphasis on it when it’s not something that affects the characters at all? Maybe Jyn was a lesbian? Maybe Cassian was gay? Maybe Tarkin is gay? Maybe Galen was in the closet and the death of his wife allowed him to finally live his life as a gay man? Maybe all the dudes who care about each other in other war films are all gay? Does it matter? It’s not like heterosexual is the default state (we don’t need to confirm that Han Solo is straight, and shit, maybe he isn’t!), so the distinction is unimportant unless it plays a part in the story.

^^ I sincerely wish you a Happy Holidays warbler. Maybe this section of the forum should be closed until the New Year giving everyone a needed break.

Or people could stop being idiots who act like they have no control over themselves and start self-moderating so we can have a decent forum again without relying on the mod team to teach people how to be civil adults to one another.

If you need a break, take a break. Don’t ask for someone else to step in and force everyone to take a break because a few people can handle themselves. The mod team have better things to do than spend their time babysitting OT.com posters with no self-control.

In what way I should watch a Star Wars Marathon?

I saw one dude whose girlfriend had never seen a Star Wars film before. Rogue One was her first and she was excited when told they could watch the sequel when they got home.

I hope they watched the Despecialized version. Although I’d still like to see a mostly original version that includes some vfx enhancements like the CGI shots on Battle of Yavin, Alderaan/Death Star explosions, just some things like that.

Like Adywan’s Revisited?

One quick observation… in each of the “reveals” of CGI recreations of prior characters, they snuck up on them gradually to build the suspense. For example, Leia’s back is to the camera for an extended period, and we’re thinking, “is it her? is it her?”. Then “tada!” it’s Leia! Or, “tada!” it’s Tarkin! Ordinarily, we aren’t introduced to characters in that way. Those might look increasingly clumsy over time.

This is a good point and likely increases the scrutiny given to the characters by people like us. Delaying it makes you look that much closer when the reveal happens.

If it was a more “natural” introduction, perhaps scrutiny would be less?
