Curiosity landed on Mars!
Time

You think Mars is cool, but what about all the water that's close to the surface of Europa, the water that comes up through cracks from under kilometer-thick ice to refreeze at the surface? Or the water/ice geysers on Enceladus that make snow?

Europa may very well have life on it, because, to paraphrase Neil deGrasse Tyson, everywhere we find water on Earth, be it the Arctic or even the Dead Sea, we find life. Imagine that. Life somewhere that isn't earth! What kind of crazy stuff could it even be? What would it even look like? So many possibilities and so awesome to think about. And if there's life under Europa's ice, what about Enceladus? The water is even closer to the surface there!

On Mars they're finding evidence of ancient streambeds which means that there was above-ground, moving water on the planet at some point, and who knows what else Curiosity will find there, I'm excitedly checking its Twitter feed every day for news.

Check out this video, if you haven't seen it already. It's long, but it's worth every second. Space has fallen out of our pop culture, to be sure, but it's still awesome, and it's just a matter of rekindling that same fire we had in the 60s and 70s. That and actually funding NASA again.

A Thread for the Suggestion of New Threads
Time

I suggest we stop making political/religious threads that I have to stay out of because I always accidentally open them while trying to get a different thread and read a post or two because I'm only human and then rage, and then want to tell you all off, and then halfway into typing something up I realize I don't want to get dragged into some inane discussion about stuff that doesn't really matter in the end anyway because no progress is made and nobody's minds are ever changed.

You are tearing me apart, Lisa.

The Clone Wars: Season V
Time

I liked it.

Some very cool stuff in there, but I don't want to get into it too deep in case anyone else cares and doesn't want spoilers. =P

I love the way Savage's saber sounds. It's very angry.

It was cool to see Hondo and the gang be pirates and rough stuff up.

Maul and Savage's relationship is getting much more interesting. It'll be cool to see where they take it.

Thought it was cool that they're showing that normal people don't know the difference between Jedi and Sith. It really goes a long way towards making the distrust of the Jedi after the war due to the Empire calling them traitors more believable. That's what makes this show so good: it takes the time to do what the prequels promised and failed to do.

Hated the flying saucers as I have since they were first introduced. Hated the fact that they're still stuck on the stupid precedent from Attack of the Clones where soldiers with ranged weapons feel like they have to run up to the enemy and shoot at them from two feet away. At least they've been taking more cover in these later seasons...

Also hated Palpatine's one line that wasn't done by the late Ian Abercrombie. I really hope that it wasn't the replacement, because it was VERY noticeable and TERRIBLE. I agree with Tobar in that they should get Sam Witwer to do it, because he did a fantastic Emperor for TFU (even though that series was shitty) and an earlier Clone Wars episode. Sam was really a great find for Star Wars: multi-talented (has done a lot of voices for The Clone Wars as well as acting for TFU), and more importantly a big Star Wars fan.

Can't wait until the next episode!
