What is wrong with... Attack of the Clones? - a general discussion thread

Attack of the Clones contains so many plot twists: the discovery that an entire star system was mysteriously erased from the Jedi Archives, the discovery that a clone army for the Galactic Republic was made in secret, the discovery that a deceased Jedi Master ordered the creation of the clone army, ect.

Yeah, what ever happened with all that anyway?

It wasn’t all that important, apparently.

The first “Star Wars” and “Darth Vader” comics are really stupid, I stopped reading at around issues #8-10. They keep throwing back to the PT and making a bunch of stupid decisions and really derailed the story. Rather than making an adventure set between ANH and ESB, they’ve gone in and just filled it with PT retcons and strange EU-based crap. Ugh

Like Luke getting into a lightsaber duel prior to TESB, or something more idiotic?

Like that, here’s just a few:
-Darth Vader having his own protocol droid and Astromech Droid
-Han Solo’s ex-girlfriend showing up to help in her “unmodified” model of the millenium falcon.
-Darth Vader going to Geonosis to destroy the rest of the droid factory
-A group of people who use the force and yellow lightsabers but are neither on the side of the rebellion/jedi or the empire. They just talk shit to Darth Vader before getting their asses killed, went nowhere.
-Someone (from the Empire era) is a huge fan of PT-era technology and makes hybrid droids as well as this abomination
-Luke is actually on the run from Boba Fett for a long time before his introduction in ESB, he just never decided to bring him up as a heads up to Han and Leia
-Leia remembers her mom because holograms of Padme were shown to her as a little girl, this doesn’t even solve the issue that Leia remembers her being “very kind but sad” and it also HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH DARTH VADER! I don’t know why this is in the vader comics!

Another thing is the planets they visit are very uninteresting. They either spend most of their time in buildings/bunkers/ships or on PT-era planets like this

These are my complaints as well, more or less.

The art in Vader is fantastic for the most part, however.

MUST each Star Wars Ep. have to have...?

I’m still not sure why people noticed the title being “wrong” while not realizing that it’s the same as Empire. If you’re inspecting the crawls that closely, wouldn’t you have at least thought about the idea that one other film might also have used that font?

Personally, I prefer the Empire font. I don’t think I’d want Jedi to have it though; all the crawls being slightly different like that gives each film more character.

I don’t need them to be the same, but I think consistency is a good goal to have–and in choosing a font for TFA, Abrams definitely made the best choice for consistency. Assuming the prequels can all DIAF, and that Star Wars doesn’t have an episode title in the crawl to begin with, we’re really only talking about two precendent-setting films: one with Univers and one with News Gothic. There is no minority or majority, it’s a 50/50 split. So you’re either flipping a coin, or you’re weighing the merits of Empire versus Jedi. Given that, I’d have picked the Empire font too. And, having gone with that, it’s now the font used in two of the four Star Wars films, a clear plurality.

This makes perfect sense to me.

What song lyrics inspire you to look forward to seeing the sun every day life allows you to?

I love that the avatar of the person who created this optimistic topic is a photograph of a dead Russian soldier who is frozen solid and propped up by the Finns that found him.

Lyrics:
“Half A World Away”
RPERIODEPERIODMPERIOD

This could be the saddest dusk I’ve ever seen
Turn to a miracle, high-alive
My mind is racing, as it always will
My hands tired, my heart aches
I’m half a world away here
And I had sworn to go it alone, hold it along
And haul it along and hold it
Go it alone 'n hold it along
Hold

Oh, this lonely deep and holy way
Half a world, half a world away
My shoes are gone, my life spent
I’ve had too much to drink
I didn’t think, I didn’t think of you
I guess that’s all I needed
To go it alone and hold it along
And haul it along and hold it
Go it alone 'n hold it along
Hold

Oh, this lonely world is wasted
Pathetic eyes, high-alive
Blind eye that turns to see
The storm it came up strong
It shook the trees and blew away our fear
I couldn’t leave it here
To go it alone, hold it along
Haul it along and hold it
Go it alone hold it along
Hold

Go it alone and hold it along
Haul it along 'n hold it
Blackbirds, backwards, forwards and fall
Hold

Oh, this could be the saddest dusk I’ve ever seen
Turn to a miracle, high-alive
My mind is racing, as it always will
My hands tired, my heart aches
I’m half a world away to go

He’s joking. Specifically, he’s making a callback to frevious’ statement that Adrien Brody’s a rapist by association for defending Allen.

Bingo. Also a primo Prequel reference.

In all honesty, it’s a bit annoying that certain things are “guilty-until-proven-innocent” that incite witch-hunt level internet brigading. Obviously it’s incredibly serious and I in no way wish to downplay that, but diving onto the bandwagon without any conclusive evidence just adds to the reactionary, scorched-earth, salt-the-fields mentality going around these days.

Filthy Millennials.

I keep bouncing between “Ultron” and “Not Ultron”. Leaning heavily towards “Ultron” now.

One unsubstantiated allegation with questionable circumstances isn’t enough for me to believe Woody Allen is a monster.

And you’re starting to sound like a “rapist-by-association”!

A couple nights ago I decided to revisit Iron Man 2. I think I remembered it better than it actually is. I think the biggest problem with the film is that it juggles too many plot lines at once. Third act a bit underwhelming and a weak villian but all in all I still enjoy watching it.

Yeah, they split it between Hammer and Vanko a bit too much and at the end they both had unsatisfying conclusions for the characters. It’s not terrible, but it’s lacking. I thought IM3 was worse in a lot of ways.

It’s worth watching for Sam Rockwell’s “Ex Wife” alone.

Actually, all of Sam Rockwell’s scenes are gold.

He was excellent and I wish he’d been in more of the MCU films.

I’d really love to see the Armor Wars explored in the MCU, or Stark losing his company (would likely have to be to Hammer [which they should have done in some form in IM2, they kinda half-assed it in IM1 but it wasn’t as heavy as it could have been] or maybe Ezekiel Stane).

Deadpool - 3/4 Stars

Pretty solid movie. Had me laughing throughout. Definitely something you could watch multiple times and still not see all the little pop-culture references and easter eggs they filled it with. It may have been a bit gratuitous at times, but it fit the character well.

You can definitely tell that this is going to set the tone for a lot of the more violent superhero films in the future. Hopefully they’ll be a bit more understated, though.
