Thank you Mark:)  I will definitely keep in touch with you as I move forward in life...

But the real thanks here goes to PaulisDead for volunteering to save and finish the project!  I actually just communicated with Tom from "Reborn," who was the other editor I was holding out for, but he is too busy and burnt out on Star Wars to take on a project like this to finish.

Now, we can't put any pressure on Paul.  He hasn't even seen the movie yet.  There is no guarantee here, and no time limit of course.  Strictly on Paul's schedule, whenever he has time to work on it.

But I would like to publicly thank him from the bottom of my heart for offering to finish the flick.  And I know he will do a great job.  I've seen some of Paul's other work, whether it was the restored versions of "Star Wars" and "Empire", or whether it was the wonderful recut opening sequence from Episode I that I downloaded a long time ago.

Paul is more than qualified to do the audio mix for this film.

Now it's just up to me to organize the files/recordings on my hard drive in such a way that another person can easily find everything....

Anyway, thank you again.  This is going to be one fun movie.  Thank goodness I didn't have to shelve it.

I thought it was decent. Normally I wouldn't say this, but I thought he should have let Obama speak a bit more. Obama's policies are self-evidently wrong headed; O'reilly didn't need to frame the discussion so much.

I agree.  O'Reilly shouldn't have interrupted so much.  He should have just let him talk and make a fool of himself.  That was bad etiquette on O'Reilly's part.

Oh, I think we're going to get a depression within the next 4 years.  I don't think there's any question of that.  But I agree that if McCain knew what to do, if he surrounded himself with people that knew what to do, he could stand a chance to start digging us out of this hole we're in.

But Obama would make the situation much, much worse by putting even more restrictions on American industries.  And raising taxes of course and playing "Robin Hood" with the U.S.

DARRRRN............. I just wrote a GIGGANTIC ESSAY, AND MY INTERNET WACKS OUT!!!!!!

Sorry, I had alot to say..... but I'll sum it up.

Thank you TM, For the labor that you have done through out the years, so many years...lol, But the we are most gratefull! I knew the status of the project.I Can't edit it do, to my lack of skill, alot of skill..... but I know where your vision lies. Maybe Ady could tackle it?

I'm sure all of us would like to see the seeds of your works, unfinished, in any media you desire.

Unfortunately Ady doesn't have time for that last time I asked, and I don't blame him.  When he worked on his version of "Episode IV", he worked on it all day for I don't know how many months.  He had no life.  So I don't want to pressure him to do that.

I'm sure, though, that he would be happy to do specific, isolated special effects tweaks.  Heck, he's already done several very important FX shots (that allowed me to change the climax in a very good way).  But as far as taking responsibility for the movie, no.

Thanks for the support though:)

Hi guys. Here is the story.

I've been around here for a while. I started this edit back when I was 15. And it really excited me at the time. The music I used and the cuts I made were all based on what made me excited when I was that age. It was only 3 or 4 years ago, but I was a different person back then. I think that's part of why this edit is so special and why it needs to be finished.

I’m going to college in less than two weeks. The movie is not done. And everybody I needed to hear back from in order to get it done, whether voice work, SPFX tweaks, and proofing, hasn’t gotten back to me over the past months.

Now I’m not upset at anybody at all. We all have busy lives, and as entertaining as this stuff is, it can’t get in life’s way.

But what it means is that I can’t finish this myself, especially, without having the missing pieces to put together the puzzle.

Now, maybe it’s just because I’ve seen the rough version all the way through, but I think that the pacing, the ideas, and just the pure excitement in this cut is way too good to throw away. If I could only mix the voices correctly, this cut is worlds above AOTC in every way. This has way too much potential to simply be dropped. I would hate to think that I spent the last few years working on this in vain. I would hate to think that the work of all of the people who worked so hard on voice dubs and special effects would go to waste. It can’t.

But I’m going to college, and at this point I can’t be working on this anymore. That’s not to say I can’t cut some video and do some editing over the summers, like doing a rough cut of Ep. III or something like that. That would be fun. But I can’t complete a project like this in college. There’s just no way.

This thing has stagnated. 2 or 3 years ago when I was working on it in full swing and putting all my creativity into it, I was really passionate and excited about doing it. Now, it feels like a dry technical exercise to finish it. And again, there are some critical pieces I am missing which only makes the process slower.

This movie needs a new person.

I think with a new editor working on it fresh, they’d be able to finish it very quickly. 3 or 4 months. But that’s what it would take…a new editor.

If anyone is considering this, please let me know and think about it over the next couple of weeks. If you decide you want to give it a try, I will have my new address at that point, and if you send me an external HD, I will load all of my project files onto it and then send it back to you to do with it what you please.

If you are an editor and you want to see this movie, please seriously consider this. The community (and I) wouldn’t be able to thank you enough.

I think this request might need a new thread. What do you think?

And thanks for putting those clip on Youtube, Josh. That made my day:)

-TM

P.S. Actually, I was considering having one of my friends doing ADR (like Sluggo) upload the entire rough cut onto Youtube or something like that, so that you would all have something to watch until somebody comes along to finish it. Yes, I know, it would ruin the suprise. I don't care about that anymore- you guys need to see this soon in one form or another.

Good idea?

OK, here's a clip.  I think it has some new material.  If it doesn't I'm sorry; I don't remember.

There are some missing sound FX.

With this sequence, as with the whole movie, what I was trying to do was inject some fun into the movie by cutting the film to more exciting music.  I was trying to bring the Star Wars feel back and do it in the 70s/80s style.

Thanks for watching:)

Hi all,

I'm really sorry to not have this out yet.  I'm still here, though.  Between a variety of things (construction on our house, a missing dub for Jar-Jar, and no person like Adywan to help out on the mix), things have just not been going well at all on my end.

I have sent it to TJdavis, editor on the cancelled "Reborn" project, so I might be hearing from him soon.

To be honest, I am so disappointed that this isn't done yet that I'm about to just give up and send everybody rough cuts.  At least you know what I had planned.  But the rough cut is bad- my dubbing is bad on that version.  Jar-Jar also doesn't mesh very well.

But one way or another, you will see this in some form or another.  And if this is not completely finished by mid-September, I would be happy to pass it to someone else to finish it.  I have an entire 150 GB external hard drive filled with material from this movie.  If anyone is interested in finishing it, just let me know and you can send me your external hard drive, and I'll load everything onto it.  I use Windows and the project is in Vegas 5.0.

Again, this movie feels so close to completion.  Everything is there (again, besides a possible new Jar-Jar dub and a couple lines in one of the deleted scenes).  It's just a handful of visual tweaks (like blurring out lightsabers in the background of a couple shots in the arena, like the "Phantom Editor" did, only in higher-res).

And the audio must be completely finished.  I am having trouble mixing my voice correctly.  This has always been an issue.  Looking over it more objectively now, it's possible that perhaps it's not working because I'm trying to force my own voice upon the Hayden Christiansen character.  Maybe it would be better served with a different voice, another voice actor?  Maybe then things would go more quickly, and the quality would improve?

Either way, I haven't given up; I'm just very frustrated and I also don't have all of the elements yet that I need to work with.  I would like to thank the guy that did the spanish subtitles for me.  I really appreciate that and I know that I'll be able to use them.

Anyway, thanks for following this project, for anybody that still is.  The movie still excites me; I can watch it and look past the dubbing flaws with my own voice, and when I just watch the rest of it for what it is, it comes across as absolutely thrilling and gripping.  I almost can't believe such a formerly bad movie could become so interesting.  It's the sound.  It's the voices I'm struggling with.

Are you all still interesting in seeing a new clip?

Hi all. Much to my surprise, the Spanish subtitles have already been translated! Spanish speakers will now be able to watch LA GUERRA DE LAS GALAXIAS- Episodio II: EL VELO DEL LADO OSCURO when this comes out.

However, we both thought it would be good if another Spanish speaker cared to proofread the captions. Please PM me for the link.

Thanks!

Thank you for your replies. It tells me there is still interest in this, even though it's been a long time.

I've posted several clips in the past. Someone posted the opening crawl on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g-vhl-XFIxw&feature=related

I do plan on uploading a new scene in a couple weeks for all of you.

I guess the good that's come out of this is that I haven't even touched the project for a few months, so I'm coming back to it with a fresh and more objective eye. There are some changes that I thought were appropriate at the time, but now seem unprofessional and out of place. The new Boba Fett voice seems to fit into that category, especially after reading Ady's comment.

In other words, just because something is technically possible does not mean it will necessarily work.

So I think a break was what I needed on this movie. But now I am ready to finish it as quickly as I can, without sacrificing quality.

Hi all,

As usual, circumstance and real life have combined to keep me from working on this project. But as summer approaches and things wind down, I might be able to finish this thing properly. I haven't visited this site in a long while. This is a strange new forum!

I have sent a rough cut DVD to Adywan, who liked the film. I'll just post part of his earlier PM for all of your benefit.

"1/ when the crawl finished there is a very noticeable shift in the black levels at the point you swap sources.
2/ after the officer says "senator, we are making our final..." you have cut out padmes line but he still makes a gesture to acknowledge this line. maybe shorten that shot to eliminate this.
3/ One thing i will mention about the audio is Jar Jars new voice. it just doesn't fit with the character at all and really sounds very amateurish. i would go with your idea of replacing this with a new voice that is similar to the jar jar we know.
4/ When Anakin jumps in the speeder to follow obi-wan in the chase scene you have added a wipe. I don't feel that it needs it. a straight cut would probably be better
5/ after Zam leaves the tunnel the video jerks really bad. is this a result of you speeding that shot up?
6/the new screaming addition when Anakin is cutting into Zam's speeder seems out of place
7/ when they enter the cantina, when you see it from the inside, you have recoloured that scene but it doesn't match the previous outside shot. the best way to fix this would be in the first shot you need to mask the outside parts and return them to the original colour then the colouring changes would better match.
8/Not too sure about the dream sequence. it just doesn't feel right to me.
9/ at 0:36:39 you cut from them sitting in the grass to a close up of padme running to Anakin laying on the floor. i would personally cut that whole section because as it stands it creates a huge continuity problem.
10/ Boba's voice sounds too old and really doesn't match his age appearance.
11/ at 1:25:14 (i think) you cut to a close up of a boys eyes. i guess this is supposed to be Boba but it really doesn't look anything like him and it leaves the audience wondering who the hell it is.
12/ during the battle you have used footage from Independence Day. this i would seriously consider losing. you can see jet fighters and the pilots look totally out of place.

as you can see the list isn't long which shows that you are totally on the right track with this edit."

Some of these things I will fix, some I will not because it would require an inordinate amount of time (like removing the battle footage from the final sequence. I think it works as-is). There are also a few other shots Ady didn't mention that need a little FX tweak to make work. This includes painting out lightsabers in a shot and making a character's mouth stop moving in a shot.

However, the audio does need work.

Adywan explained to me a couple months ago that he will not be able to work on my movie anymore. He is taking a 6-8 month break from everything. Which is totally understandable. But after I heard this and more and more things crept into my schedule, I had to temporarily shelve it.

So just to recap, this movie is, creatively, finished. In fact, it's completely encoded, double layer. It just needs a lot of audio polishing to make it professional sounding. The only new audio elements I need are a new Jar-Jar voice from Sluggo and a child recording from MTHaslett.

I go to college this September. If this movie is not done by then, then any fan with experience in editing and interest in the project can get in touch with me and send me an external hard drive. I'll load everything onto it and send it back. And then it can be finally put away.

Either way, this needs to come out soon. It's been way too long and I want it to be done and in your living rooms.

Talk later,
TM

P.S. Thanks to "Strooper", there will now be Spanish subtitles in addition to German. Thank you so much:)

Hi,

The project is kind of in limbo right now.... I am awaiting some feedback from a couple of people before I continue work on the movie. There will be German subtitles on the disc, thanks to a very kind offer made to me recently. Still looking for French and Spanish translators with time to spare!

Qui-Gon, the smoke shot was actually sourced from Citizen Kane and recolored to match the scene. Glad to hear you are still interested in the movie:)

Thanks,
TM
