I thought Vader was fine, apart from the fact that he wasn’t able to get aboard the Tantive IV. he was able to do that in the OT…
I think it’s important to note that Vader also doesn’t care about the Death Star as has been established in Star Wars and was re-established in Rogue One. Maybe it was less that he couldn’t get to the Rebel and more that he wasn’t too bothered about it.
I think Dahmage believes there’s a continuity error between the two films.
I’d recommend he rewatch the opening of Star Wars.

One of these days, just as a neat little experiment, I’ll make pan and scan Force Awakens and Rogue One tapes, and then marathon them with my Faces OT set.

Yeah but the point is the big stink they made about him. He was the Constable Zuvio of Rogue One.

It is funny how big a deal they made about the character and then it was in the movie for maybe five seconds?
Don’t forget the whoopty-doo about C2-B5. He’s in the background of one shot for about two seconds. And yet got his own Sideshow and Funko Pop releases:

The unseen Star Wars archive footage used in Rogue One
“We went to Skywalker ranch, and there’s the archives there,” Edwards told RadioTimes.com.
“And as we’re walking around, and doing all the cool things and looking at the Millennium Falcon and trying on Han Solo’s jacket and things like that, in the back at the bottom was all these cans of film. And we said ‘what are they?’ and they said ‘Oh, it’s Star Wars.’“And you go… ‘has someone gone through all this? And it’s like ‘not really, they’re not fully like digitised at all.’”
Sensing an opportunity, Edwards got his hands on the film negatives, and realised he had the perfect chance for a subtle homage in his hands.“We got the neg documents and found the clips from A New Hope that hadn’t been used,” he recalled.

So what did everyone think of Slingshot? I thought it was pretty great. Helped to bridge that huge gap between the last two seasons and expand on the director a little as well. It also allowed Yo-Yo to spread her wings a bit. Hopefully she’ll be featured in the show more often if not become a series regular.

So, can anybody tell me what was the point of Forest Whitaker’s character? I mean if you would cut him out of the movie it wouldn’t affect the story at all. The same goes for the subplot with the tentacle monster - why was it there?
Saw Gerrera serves a number of purposes.
Firstly, he’s there to explain why this daughter of a scientist is so well combat trained. He raised Jyn to be a soldier for a good portion of her life. Its his influence that prepares her to fulfill her destiny. Second, its his extreme resistance activities that cause Jedha to be targeted by the Death Star. Which is needed to demonstrate to the Alliance the very real threat they’re facing.
As for the tentacle monster. It’s there as the obligatory creature(Dianoga,Wampa,Rancor/Sarlaac) that feature in every Star Wars movie. Not a particularly effective one I’ll grant you but at least it keeps the tradition going.

Interested to hear an explanation as to why Vader’s spending his days on the planet where he lost his arm, legs, lungs, hair, perfect skin, and wife.
What better way to fuel your connection to the Darkside?

And, btw, I know EVERYONE is loving the Vader scene (as did I) but I’ll be the guy to throw a huge monkey wrench in the Vader-orgy going on:
With one force pull, he grabbed 5-6 blasters. Couldn’t he have done the exact same thing with the plans that the soldier was holding? One force pull and he’s got them. Done.Continue…
It’s unclear if he even realizes that guy has the plans.
Exactly, which is why his line about beamed plans doesn’t bother me.

Now the Star Wars franchise is expanding the universe, making “Star Wars” a setting
This has always been my view of the franchise. I’ve never understood people who hold such an incredibly narrow understanding(Jedi, Hero’s Journey, Skywalkers) of it.
