Terrible DVD/Blu-ray Cover Art
Time

This thread is for sharing any horrible cover art you've come across. I really can't fathom why studios decide to use absolutely terrible slapped together junk instead of the original poster art. I know sometimes it's because they're double dipping and want to differentiate between releases but I've seen more than my fair share of crap covers on the first release.

I have no words:

I would hate him with the passion of a thousand fiery roaring volcanoes if he did that. But no whenever I've watched contemporary Sesame Street they'll spend maybe the first quarter of the show doing some random something and then the second will be Big Bird looking for stuff Blues Clues style and then the second HALF of the show is Elmo's World. I wish they'd just spin it off into its own show.

Being Elmo: A Puppeteer's Journey (2011)

I've always resented Elmo for stealing the spotlight from Big Bird. Because of this I put off watching what otherwise looked like a good documentary. I just felt watching an entire documentary dedicated to him and the man behind him would rile me up. I watched it anyway. While I still resent Elmo I have a new found respect for Kevin Clash. It covers his whole life up to now and it was a very interesting journey.

Sounds very plausible. I remember while watching it I noticed there was an inconsistency with the Lizard's lab coat. He runs around naked for the most part but then after escaping the school Spider-Man finds his coat at the entrance of that tunnel. Then shortly after the Lizard emerges suddenly wearing his coat only to have it shredded to pieces seconds later by the SWAT team. I hate naked Lizard.

Star Trek TNG on BluRay confirmed !
Time

Hmm, so yeah so much for staying 100% true. =P

As a fan I've been intensely curious about how the remastering team will improve upon the infamously low-resolution "bitmap" planet shots from the first season, especially the notorious "Green Planet #1" which cropped up first in the episode as Angel One in "Angel One", only to reoccur in "The Arsenal of Freedom" as Minos, "The Royale" as Theta 116 VII and in "Sarek" as Legara IV.

The shear contrast in these two shots is simply mind-blowing. Perhaps it is worth pointing out that this beautiful comparison illustrates yet again the team's shear determination to remain as faithful to the original show as possible. The remastered Minos uses the same green-white colour, and the areas of continents/cloud cover seem to be roughly in agreement with the original... However, gone are the awful jagged-edges around the Enterprise, a result of compositing the original orbital shot of the ship onto the planet background. The planet truly comes alive in the remastered shot - we can see variations in the colour of the continents indicating mountain ranges, topped by realistic cloud cover and all surrounded by a new halo of an atmosphere! It remains to be seen whether or not there will be any differences with the stock shot of this planet in the other three episodes in which it appears.

George Lucas leaves Lucasfilm
Time

While I detest accusations about Mark Hamill's acting as I think he's a great actor. I thought I'd share this rather relevant article I just found. It's from the June 16th, 1978, issue of the Montreal Gazette:

'Star Wars' hero playing it cool for a hot career

Mark Hamill: New film lets him do a comedy role

HOLLYWOOD - (UPI) - Mark Hamill, who literally skyrocketed to stardom as Luke Skywalker in 'Star Wars,' is determined not to flame out as just another flash-in-the pan in a record-breaking movie.

The kid has kept a low profile since completing his role in the greatest box-office film of all time - more than $200 million so far and holding.

Hamill has eschewed the fast buck and maxi-exposure offers.

He turned down television almost flat. No game shows, no quiz shows, no clumsy song-and-dance act on variety shows or specials.

Nor did he follow 'Star Wars' with a quickie movie to capitalize on his awesome new fame.

Hamill, a handsome, blond 26-year-old, hung out at his rented Malibu pad, keeping to his old haunts and old friends.

He did appear on talk shows - Dinah, Johnny, Merv and Mike - and the Bob Hope Christmas special - "an invitation from Bob is like a request from the Pope."

'To save myself'

Mark did tour the United States for a month last June and spent October on a world tour promoting 'Star Wars' but otherwise he settled for relative isolation.

Not that Hamill is a shrinking violet. On the contrary, he's brash, self-possessed and confident. He has a healthy ego, too.

Above all, Hamill is smart. He knew it would be simple for the public to overdose on Mark Hamill. It would have been simple to grab the money and run. He's opted for longevity.

"I made the decision to save myself so that when people go to see me it'll be freshing," Mark said.

"I wanted to work during the last year, but most of the offers were drive-in fodder. I like drive-ins, popcorn and making out, but I'd rather see drive-in movies than be in them.

"The kind of movies I want, I have to go after. The people who wanted  to hire me without asking me to read for the part made me nervous. They are willing to give me a starring role sight unseen.

"I'm at a slight disadvantage now because 'Star Wars' was so stylized. I'm not being offered Tennessee Williams stuff as a result of playing Luke. But I resent producers offering me a half-million dollars just to use my name."

It's not as if Mark is a lucky young pup who caught the brass ring in his first motion picture. Despite his tender years he has been a professional since his debut in an episode of 'The Cosby Show' in 1970.

He has appeared in 140 television shows and a couple of TV movies. He studied Moliere and Shakespeare at Los Angeles City College. He spent nine months in the 'General Hospital' soap opera and starred in 'The Texas Wheelers' series.

"Sometimes I felt guilty in TV, working in things I wouldn't watch in a million years," Mark said, grinning. "Now I have luxury of holding off."

Mark held off for almost a year before accepting the leading role in 'Corvette Summer,' a romantic comedy about a high school student, a girl and a car.

His role is in sharp contrast to the simplistic Luke Skywalker. In the new film Mark plays a sensitive, complex youth who becomes involved in a series of dramatic and comedic situations.

There are no breathtaking special effects, much less such hardware as lovable robots, R2D2 and C3PO, nor such weirdos as Chewbacca and Darth Vader to beef up the action and box-office.

"I took the role in 'Corvette Summer' - I hate that title - because the character I play is terrific. It gives me a chance to do some comedy.

"It's a contemporary story about a young man with everyday problems. The script was excellent and I can take pride in the movie."

The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)

Wow! The Amazing Spider-Man is amazing! This one almost slipped by me. I was caught off guard when my friend asked if I was going to the midnight premiere on Monday. Amazingly there were still a lot of seats left for the midnight premiere at IMAX. I had some misgivings about this film. I didn't know how well Andrew Garfield would be as Spider-Man and I've always lamented the fact that they have yet to hire someone with a dynamic voice to play the character. He was good. I also didn't like how they gave the lizard a flat face or how he's naked all the time instead of wearing his trademark lab coat. The film does start to fall apart a little toward the end but it recovers and overall was fantastic. I look forward to sequels.

Star Wars albums - Does anybody know?

I've got one of those in my collection at my mom's. I believe it has the bounty hunter that makes Han (try to) leave the Alliance in ESB.

He's one of the bounty hunters that Han encounters on Ord Mantell. =P In official canon the honor falls upon Skorr who was actually the very first bounty hunter offered up as explanation for Han's line is ESB. That was in The Bounty Hunter of Ord Mantell.

This record was the second explanation and was actually written by Brian Daley the writer behind the radio dramas. When asked why he covered something that had already been explained he revealed he had no idea it had already been done and admitted he wouldn't have had he known. You can actually listen to the entire record here.

That all said, I have my own personal theory about who the bounty hunter was. I like to think it was a close encounter with Boba Fett that ended in the disintegration of a rebel operative. Perhaps the operative sacrificed himself by taking a shot meant for Luke. But since the canon has taken an official stance I'm glad it was Skorr who won out.

Drive (2011)

Originally I had intended to watch The Conspirator because I thought it'd make a nice sequel to AL:VH. =P But my brother came over so we ended up watching this. I'd heard good things about it. I was a little skeptical because of Ryan Gosling but I gave it a chance. It turned out really well. Good film, odd title design and soundtrack though. =P

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (2012)

Just got back from this. Wow. That was one awesome movie. Going in I thought this was probably going to be low budget and corny. I hadn't watched a trailer for it beforehand, just saw the poster. This movie was off the rails. It was a huge film that balanced everything almost perfectly. It captured the time period perfectly, the actor they got to play Abe was great. I really can't think of anything to complain about. It had its corny elements of course but they're easily forgiven. Fun flick.
