Idea: The Turning Star Wars Into A Television Show Fun Thread.

Alright, so I have gone back and fixed the music qeues you pointed out, and touched up a couple of other edits.  I'm not going to re-upload it as the changes are too minor at this point.  As for when the second episode will be out, well I'm not sure how I'm going to be releasing it at the moment, but I'm just finishing sound mixing on it right now, so hopefully within the next week.

Thanks Vaderios.  I have to say I kind of agree with you about the title, but I was never able to come up with something else that wasn't boring or verbose. Also, I'm glad to hear you like the Gungan's voices.  I was looking to the same with the Nemodians, but that proved to be impractical and next to impossible :(

As for the audio transitions/substitutions are there any specific ones that jump out?  There are a couple I still wan't to go back and fix (especially seeing as the audio for "he will find your lost ship" apparently got lost during encoding).

Help Wanted: a fanedit request
Time

The good news is that if you want to do this, the only work required is simple enough you could do it yourself and it will still look fine.  If you do want to do you it yourself you need a few things.

-Adigitalman's Extended edition of Episode 3  (Can't supply you with this, but it sounds like you already have it)

-Some decent video editing software (Sony Vegas, Final Cut, Adobe Premier, etc.)

-A little bit of patience.

Basically you would have to take Adigitalman's version and open it up in the video editing software.  It's then a simple matter of cutting out the footage you don't want and joining the ends together.  Then just crossfade the audio and your good.  Or, use your original copy of Episode III, and take the transition from there, so that you have all the original audio.

Once you have done that you would have to re-export the video (in other words save it as a single movie file), burn it to DVD, and enjoy.

If you have any more specific questions let me know and I'll try to help you.

Good luck!

Alright.  Took a few days longer than I hoped, but here it is!  At this point this is also the ONLY complete video I will be uploading onto this forum.  It is being shared as a "pilot" so that everyone can get an idea what has been done, but I will by no means be sharing the entire set on these forums.  Now that that is out of the way, enjoy!

Star Wars TV: Season I, Episode I

Let me know what you think.  I've been looking at some of the previous posts, and I like some of the intro's that have been posted, and I'm considering using something like that instead of having an opening crawl for each episode.

Hey Ady, I know you've done some work to try and help improve the realism of the Tauntauns. The other day I stumbled upon this video and was really impressed with the fluidity of his work. I decided to look around and found a video that explains some of his process. You can see here he uses a special plugin. Thought you might be interested. =)

hmmm, if there are larger star wars figures out there of a good enough quality, i wonder if this technology could be used to make extra snow troopers and stop motion battledroids?

Thats a dark road your suggesting...  first we replace a couple characters, add a few more tauntauns, next thing you know, full stop motion sequels.  Episodes 7-9 could all be action figures!!!!! *evil laugh*

erm.  Sorry, just had to get that out.  But joking aside, thats actually a pretty good idea.

Max Rebo: Wow, talk about timing.  I'm looking forward to seeing them.  If your still a bit short on imagery let me know and I'll see if I can't pull something up.

ChainsawAsh: Thanks for the heads up. I'll keep hunting, but scrolling through 150 pages on these forums is a pain.  If only I could skip more than one page at a time....

Hey, believe it or not I've already been working on a project like this!  I've spent the last little while splitting the prequel trilogy up into a miniseries.  Currently my idea has been to have it be a trilogy of mini-series's (is that a word?).   My episode structure currently sits like this:

Season 1: The Phantom Menace

Episode I.I: The Gathering Storm (The whole Naboo opening right up till they escape with Amidala)

Episode I.II: Stranded (All of Tatooine including the Pod Race, Darth Maul has been removed for pacing)  I've also considered calling this one "The Great Pod Race"

Episode I.III: Change of the Gaurd (Coruscant right up until they land on Naboo and meet with Gungans, setting up for the big finale)

Episode I.IV: The Battle of Naboo (Title explains it all.  Removed parade ending as I felt the darker ending set up the next season best)

Season 2: Attack of the Clones

Episode II.I: The Senator's Peril (Starts at beginning of Ep II and runs until Anikan and Obi Wan tell the counsil about the Bounty hunter)

Episode II.II: Discovery on Kamino (Focus' on Kamino and Anikan and Padme' on Naboo.  Ends at Jango fight)

Episode II.III: The Journey Home (Focus' on the Death of Anikan's mom and Obi Wan's capture.  Ends when Anikan rush's to rescue)

Episode II.IV: Rescue on Geonosis (Starts with Anikan Landing on Geonosis, ends at "begun, the clone wars have")

Episode II.V: The Sith Witch (Clone wars Vol. 1 compressed into 22 min.  Removed everything not relating to Anikan)

Season 3: Revenge of the Sith

Episode III.I:  Untitled (Clone Wars Animated vol. 2 starts with Greivous intro from vol. 1 and ends at Dooku Greivous training scene)

Episode III.II: Untitled (Clone Wars Animated vol. 2 starts where last left off, ends at end of vol. 2 with Palpitine's capture

Episode III.III: Untitled (Start of EpIII right up maybe were on wrong side scene.)

Episode III.IV: Untitled (Focus on the Fall of the Jedi, haven't selected end for this one)

Episode III.V: Untitled (Rest of EpIII, again, haven't dealt with this one yet.)

At this point Season 1 is about 95% done, Season 2 is about 70% done, and Season 3 is about 30% done.  I'll upload the first episode onto Google video in the next day or so as a pilot so you guys can let me know what you think of the structure.  I have no plans at all of doing the OT though, so if someone is interested in doing that alongside me let me know!

Also, is your still with me after all that, my old thread was "Prequel Trilogy Sagafied".  The thread is basically dead as the project has changed however, I did upload some footage on that thread that is still active which you can find HERE.  Its the first 15 min of Season 3 Episode III.III  The footage is hopelessly out of date, but it should give you some idea of my editing style and ideas.

Cheers!

One thought, in TPM, if Qui-Gon really got mad at Obi-Wan for getting his saber wet, that could only be a temporary issue because they then went and jumped in a lake.  So, unless they have little ziploc bags with them they got their sabers wet, then promptly used them a few hours later to save the queen.

So water likely won't destroy a lightsaber then, at most it would just dissable it till it's dry, kind of like a zippo.

They do sound pretty sweet in the PT, not going to argue, but I always like the look of the sabers in the OT better.  The old rotoscoping techniques they used made the image jump a little bit which I feel makes them look a little more electric and much more volitile.  The ones in the PT were colourful, but seemed just a little lifeless in comparison.

well, how would ice react when put into contact with something as hot as a lightsaber?  I think some ice falling would help, but I am sure some would also turn to a gas, and this could create a little cloud.

While there's some debate about this (especially with some more recent EU stuff), lightsabers didn't originally give off heat. For example, in Shadows of the Empire (which while EU, was a media campaign by Lucas set between ESB and ROTJ), when Luke is building his lightsaber, and he tests it for the first time, he holds the blade right next to his hand to see if it gives off any heat, stating that if it did, there would be something wrong with it. At the same time, lightsabers have been seen to make burn marks when cutting into things, melting the metal of blast doors in TPM, etc. They only sometimes cause steam/smoke when coming in contact with flesh (and therefore moisture). As you can see, accounts are inconsistent, but there's no definite proof from the films that a lightsaber generates heat, or that when coming into contact with moisture, that it would create steam (the way a red-hot piece of metal would, for example). One could even argue (and some SW books have) that a lightsaber would actually short out when coming into contact with water, since it's an energy beam, not a physical object.

Also, on the topic of radio drama dialogue: I really liked what ady did with the Biggs line in ANH:R, but as with everything else in this edit, we should be cautious about adding stuff just for the sake of adding it, or because we can. For example, while adding that line from the beginning of the duel might make it more "complete", it doesn't necessarily work from a character/story perspective, at least not for me. That moment is such a wonderfully ominous one, with Vader appearing at the top of the stairs, completely in control of the situation. Luke giving a snappy, bordering-on-flippant response undermines the emotional impact of the scene, which is rooted in the fear that Vader instills. Anyway, those are just my thoughts -- what do you think?

Take care,

Sojourn

The 2D Clone Wars shows a lightsaber actually boiling the water around it underwater but again that isn't canon.

True, but I'd say that Episode I has some much more definite proof that even if there is no heat in the air around them (eg: Shadows)  then there is definitely heat in them.  Anyone remember the scene where Qui-Gon sticks his lightsaber in the blast door and the door starts to turn molten?  That seems like enough proof to me, and very canon.

Actually, I think the slightly short reflection on the Cloud City railing looks correct.  It looks to me like from our POV the reflection should look a little shorter given the angle of the floor.  If you ask me the SE shot where the two are the same size just looks wrong.

Adywan, I have a question.  At the end of Empire when the Mellenium Falcon is trying to escape the star destroyer, it seems to get really, really close, and yet it's out of tractor beam range.  Are you planning to do something about this?  Or can something even BE done about it???

Otherwise looking good man!

Yet ANOTHER DVD boxed set...*sigh*

So my question is, has anyone bought the prequel trilogy set yet?  The reason I ask is the whole hype about "never before released deleted scenes" which as a fan editor gets me as excited as a schoolgirl who just figured out what her hoo-ha is for.

Unfortunately if its the same stuff I already bought, well thats kinda like going on a blind date and finding out someone set you up with your ex.

Just a minor thought on Needa's shuttle.  Have you considered using the shuttle design from ROTS?  I know that doesn't help give dignitaries their own shuttles, but it might be an interesting visual tie between the PT and the OT (much like the battle droid in the sandcrawler).

Seeding is simply you're computer making the file available to others. You downloaded your torrent file from other people who were seeding, and as long as people are seeding the file is still available.

As for why its taking so long, technically it goes on indefinitely, as you can always share you're file. If however you feel its taking up too much bandwidth you can always stop seeding, or adjust how much bandwidth you're willing to let the program use. If you adjust it, then you can keep seeding (more seeds = better download speeds for others) and still be able to use the internet or other programs without taking much of a performance hit.

Well, I figure its time to make my statement of applause. I now have 1 out of the 6 Star Wars movies in the perfect DVD collection I intend to put together. There were only things that bugged me. One was Buru's voice change, I may just not be used to it though so I'll give that one time, the second was the missing line "yea, get it out of here" that Luke says when the Jawa's take away the droid (though really it doesn't make the movie worse, I just wonder why it was gone), and third was the music during the lightsaber fight.

The complaint is simply that I didn't think the music was quite loud enough. I don't think it needed to be much louder, but I thought sometimes it just didn't come across as epic as it should have. However, that said it did have me jumping up and down on my couch punching the air shouting "get him Obi, get him!", so despite my small issue with it, I must say I approve highly of the overall choice.

Lastly, I must squawk like a parrot and say I love this edit, because you have restored a movie that I grew up on in a way I had begun to fear would never be possible.

Thank You Adywan.

I would argue they are about as different as possible... because of the inflection... both have very different inflections.

Good point, the main reason I brought it up was while editing I heard it in the background and immediately went "oh, Lucas tracked that piece from.... Aliens? Hmmm." You're right though, they are by no means identical.
