Quotes from Gary Kurtz
Time
While an interesting read to be sure, I think Kurtz should be taken with a grain of salt. Here's his filmography:

5-25-77 (2005) (filming) (producer)
The Steal (1994) (producer)
Slipstream (1989) (producer)
Return to Oz (1985) (executive producer)
The Dark Crystal (1982) (producer)
Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (1980) (producer)
The Making of 'Star Wars' (1977) (TV) (executive producer)Star Wars (1977) (producer)
Star Wars (1977)(producer)
American Graffiti (1973) (co-producer)
Chandler (1971) (associate producer)
Two-Lane Blacktop (1971) (associate producer)

Not exactly an Oscar winning laundry list, eh? I guess my point is that while his contribution to the saga is indelible, he sometimes comes off as the 'Jesus of Star Wars' which really, really bothers me. I still respect him, but so often he takes the moral high ground like he knows what was best.

'Raiders' Changes...
Time
Sorry, I know this doesn't fit here, but I came across a curiosity on IMDB, regarding the changes made to 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' after its' initial theatrical run. Here's the entry:

The original 1981 version of the movie contained a few additional seconds during the Raven Bar fight. In this footage, Pat Roach's character shoves Indiana Jones against several walls while one of the Nazi henchman laughs. This footage was deleted in all re-release prints and video releases.

In the cinema release of Raiders, immediately AFTER the credits, there was a cutaway to the boxed Ark of the Covenant in the US Govt warehouse, and the U.S. Govt brand on the box is gradually being burnt away by the Ark. This scene is missing from the DVD release of the film.

If this for real? I saw 'Raiders' several times, but don't remember any of this...

What about you? The moment when you "divorced" from the Lucas policy about SW?
Time
In a lot of ways, I've 'divorced' myself in that I separate the films. I can enjoy the OOT as a standalone experience, but also I-VI in a different way. I will never pair up the original Star Wars with the Prequels, but I will pair them up with the SE's as they exist on DVD.

I think a lot of the time people cling to their memories and experiences a little too strong.

I saw Empire at the AFI Silver theatre on Saturday!
Time
Since we're all at it...

In 1980 my family took me to see Empire (I was uh...6). I remember the whole experience vividly, but my first memory of Empire was standing in line as the previous showing was coming out, and hearing the Imperial March for the first time. What a memory.

In 1997 I took my familt to see Empire:SE (I was uh...23). The same thing happened, same theatre and all. One of those things that makes you realize that life is all about symmetry, I guess.

hey u know it jsut occured to me what if thats the secret to the sith and how they survied the 1000 generates where they were thought of as being extinct. i have been wondering for a long time how someone as powerful as pali could grow up and not be located by the coucil, same for all the sith dating back, each one would have to be extremely power like equal to a council member and the chances seem too remote for them to find someone so powerful every 30-40 years at random.

One of the things I both love, and hate about Star Wars is that anything can be read into anything. As for this, I always figured it was because, you know, they were hiding.

Regarding the initial point of this thread, if the internet has taught me one thing it's that despite your best intentions there are hundreds of people waiting to pounce on you with insults and poorly worded sentences, all of which seem to rhyme with the word 'truck.'

EDIT - I've never watched the Prequel re-edits, personally I don't see the point - but I admire the intent and respect the amount of time someone pours into these projects. However, to claim that re-editing something makes it 'better' or 'closer to the original vision' is a subjective and flawed.

I am a huge fan of the preservationists though - I'm glad that there's people out there willing to sacrifice their time to bring out the best possible versions of the original trilogy.

HI-Res Poster Art

- Star Wars: Super Bombad Racing
- Star Wars: Pit Droids
- Star Wars: Bounty Hunter
- Star Wars: Demolition
- Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II
- Super Star Wars Series (SNES)
So, if you know where I can find some hi-res, and hi-quality if possible, pictures or covers, well.....it would be cool

By the way, is there any Star Wars music (not the commercial ones, of course) preservation project here?

Anyway, thanks.

Um...I could be out of line here, but isn't that, you know - illegal? I mean, you're ripping games that you presumably own RIGHT?

Info Wanted: Your Favorite OT Preservation Project And Why?
Time
The EditDroid set is, pound for pound, the best preservation set I've seen so far.

I love the menus, the isoloated score, the recreated '77 crawl on Star Wars...it's awesome!

When I watch the discs, I get the sense that I am watching an 'official' release, as if the DVD format was around 'back then' they would have looked like this.

The project I am most interested in is, of course, the XO project. I just wish I could get a time machine so I could see the set now! (Maybe I'll ask Kip - I reckon he knows a lot about cyberspace).

And I agree - the Deleted Magic disc is quite possibly the most loving tribute to Star Wars I've seen - it simply rocks.

To tell you the truth, for me there's a certain charm in seeing THX-1138 (even Star Wars for that matter) with all of it's filmic blemishes for me. I kind of like the scratches and dirt on film, I guess maybe I'm overly romantic.
