Could the 2006 DVDs become collector's items?

It's because everyone thinks that if something says 'Star Wars' on it, it'll be worth something someday. These people, and your friends, are morons.

Any Guitarists out there?
Time
I've been a guitarist for about 18 years, and can offer up some beginner's advice.

From the style of music you are interested in, you're dead on the money with which type of guitar to get.

Anything with single coil pickups should give you that smooth blues or treble-y funk ound (Ray Vaughan, Hendrix, Chili Peppers etc...).

The Tele is a great guitar, but a little bit too twangy for my tastes. It is the go to guitar for countryfied blues. Not enough bottom end though for alt rock.

The middle of the road would be a Strat if you could afford it, but the Fender Jazzmaster and Fender Jaguar are both great guitars for the price (you should be able to find one for around $500, just not the signature series). They would definately give you the sound you're after.

When you move into the Gibson/Epiphone line, you're looking at humbuckers which give you way more bottom end and warmth, but it comes at a price as they tend to feedback more at higher volumes, at least in my experience. Think Jimmy Page, Slash etc...

A great song to listen to is the Beatles' Get Back. Lennon is playing an Epiphone Casino (an awesome guitar and something worth looking at if you want a humbucker guitar with wamth, and they're only $350-$500) and Harrison is playing a Telecaster. You can hear the distinct differences in them as Lennon takes the lead and Harrison the rythym. Harrison's backing work shows the chunkiness of the Tele and the twang, and Lennon's work showcases the warmth and smoothness of the humbucker style guitars.

One thing I would recommend is narrowing it down to who your favourite guitarists are, find out what they played, and find a similar guitar in your price range - there are budget versions of EVERY guitar out there, and each one can give a beginner satisfactory results.

Oh, and I will assume you don't play guitar - I would suggest going with the Fender style guitar, as the body type allows for a lower action (the space between the strings and the neck) which isn't as hard on your fingers as the higher action on humbucker guitars, which (with the exception of the Les Paul) tend to be hallow body.

Sorry for rambling, hope there's some good advice in there somewhere!

GET RID OF GO-MER-TONIC

On the other hand, it would be nice to exchange pleasant thoughts about Star Wars without EVERY thread become an argument about the O.T. vs. the P.T. I am pretty sick of that, but I shy away from banning someone just because they ... well, steer every thread to the same argument.

If that's trolling, then by all means ban him. But I think it falls a wee bit short, and is simply annoying as all hell.

Sorry mate, but if OT vs. PT arguments aren't your thing, try the Official Site message board. This place is called Original Trilogy.com - to be hinest with you, we shouldn't even bring up the PT here, lol.

Maybe if the boy or girl is gay.

Seriously man - whenever a boy/girl or man/woman are friends, at one point or another the thought of becoming intimate crosses at least one of their minds. Plenty of friendships have been spoiled by sex, or lack of sex.

Feeling develop. It's human nature. Anyone guy who thinks they can have a prolonged friendship with a girl or vice versa without complications eventually arising is deluding themselves.

Did boris finally give up?
Time
He wasn't a troll. Very far from it. AWK was a troll.

Boris quite often made valid points, and the reason people can't stand him is that he disagrees with everything, is highly opinionated, and is usually quite caustic. He likes to get into arguments...a lot.

Is he a dick? Sometimes. Did he do anything worth getting banned for? Not that I saw.

TheForce.Net? Anything Wrong?
Time
I'll break down my understanding of TF.N for you:

1)Criticism of Star Wars, LFL and Lucas is verboten.
2)The Forums are overrun by fanboys who embrace anything LFL does. If it comes from Lucas, then it must be so.
3)The main site is a clutter of advertisements and corporate shilling.
4)The mods are unscrupulous, I believe millenniumfalcon.com was created after a falling out with the regime at TF.N. I'm not sure how the story goes exactly, but I'm pretty sure they fucked over some folks at mf.com, hence the hatred there for TF.N.
5)Anyone who embraces the unaltered original trilogy is generally derided.
6)It's boring. Topics on the Forum are usually of the ilk seen now in the General Star Wars discussion here at OT. "What is the worst line of the trilogy, How can Lucas rape my childhood, My wife has never watched Star Wars in her underwear, What's faster, an XWing or a Tie Fighter..." that kind of stupid shit that people have been talking about on the internet since the 90's.

I swear, Jay should create a Forum just for people who want to discuss mundane things like "Oh my God, has anyone noticed Lando's strap changes places in Jedi, like 3 times?" Some of us have been around for a while on the 'net and it's all old news, and frankly fucking boring. Seriously, I'm starting to think that Star Wars is dead.

Films released in 2006 - The Departed, Akeelah and the Bee, The Black Dahlia, Flags of Our Fathers, Hollywoodland, The Illusionist, Monster House, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, Superman Returns...and yeah, for every one of those there's a Dungeon Siege or You Me and Dupree...

ok... flag of our fathers isn't even out yet.... POTC2 sucked, Superman Returns was decent, but not great. haven't seen the others, so i won't comment on them. but none of the ones you mentioned that i did see come close to some of the classic films like Casablanca, The Adventures of Robin Hood, To Catch a Thief, The Day the Earth Stood Still, Lawrence of Arabia, Roman Holiday etc.

sorry to ruffle so many feathers.

Didn't ruffle my feathers, man. I'm just pointing out that there has always been bad movies, no one remembers them.

well, for the last few years it seems those of us who still have decent taste in entertainment have been asking what the crap happened to the film industry... where are the "Casablancas" and "Seven Samurais" of today? Why does hollywood give us nothing but mindless garbage? Here, we've found our answer.....

Horse shit. Pure horse shit.

Casablanca - 1942.

Other films released in 1942 - Sabotage Squad, Secrets of a Co-Ed, The Night Before the Divorce, Not a Ladies' Man, Panama Hattie, Happy Circus Days...remember those? Me neither.

Seven Samurai - 1954

Other films released in 1954 - She Couldn't Say No, Fangs of the Wild, Tooting Tooters...classics all!

My point is, Hollywood has always made shit but you only remember the bad ones in your lifetime. Ever since the first frame of film ran through a camera there's been White Chicks or Poseidon Adventure.

But we love them because every now and then they get it right, and 2006 is no exception.

I don't think it was ever about what the fans wanted back then. Lucas and Spielberg were out to impress themselves and make movies that would knock them out as filmgoers. I contend that the fans haven't changed, Lucas has. I didn't have outlandish expectations when I sat in the midnight show of TPM back in '99. I remember thinking that this is going to be different, yet familiar. Other than that, I really had no expectations and I still don't like TPM. Lucas changed...we didn't. We just wanted a STAR WARS movie....and whatever comes with a STAR WARS movie. Those prequels were not STAR WARS movies.

Lucas is older, jaded, unchallenged, obtuse and most of all...comfortable. The rest of us are still the wide-eyed, imaginative and impressionable kids and young people we were back in the glory days, who seek the same thrill, that's all. An ambitious and imaginative storyteller could have satiated our desire for a STAR WARS movie. Lucas is not such a storyteller anymore.

If I may be so bold as to make a comparison here....the OT is like Jaws and the PT is like Jaws: The Revenge. Anyone else agree with this?

And that's why I cut you some slack and think you're a pretty cool guy. Your quote should go on the back of a fan DVD cover...well said.

Yeah, good luck with that.

Newsflash kids - George Lucas doesn't care about you. He does everything for himself, as well he should, and he wouldn't give a rat's ass what you think at this point. Cut up all the discs you want, mail 'em all back in fact - it's not going to change a thing. In fact, if there was a little piece of Lucas who cared enough to give you what you wanted (what is that, exactly?) it's DEAD now. You hear me, DEAD.

Ironically all this fanboy bickering has killed the noble cause. Lucas would have listened to the petition or letter writing campaign five years ago, but any chance of him placating the disgruntled fanbase is over. You've bitten the hand that feeds, and I hope you're all proud.

You've accomplished nothing by destroying them Cable. And I like you man, I think you're a cool guy, but you've done nothing besides make yourself feel better and get a couple titters out of the sheep here.
