That makes Darth's often arbitrary and frequently fatal discipline so effective.

These are real officers dealing with an enforcer with an unpredictable fuse.

Jerjerrod in the earlier draughts is much more haughty, aware of Vader's recent failures and willing to exploit them for personal advancement.

There isn't much in the way of room to put all of that into the film but if it were possible to replace him with someone more confident it could show Vader as being a position where he has to prove himself to the Emperor or be bold enough to stand up to him.

 I don't know if adding in Vader's office politics would help the story much. I think it might distract from the real story (Luke's story) and muddy Vader's already ambiguous motivations and feelings about the Luke/Empy situation.

Wow! What a pleasant coincidence. Just turned on the DVR and "Airplane" and "Airplane 2" are both on it. Boo-Yeah!

So, any alternate ideas for a title to "Dark Knight Rises."

I think the logical and perfect one is obviously "The Caped Crusader."

I remember liking the Shat bits in Airplane 2 but I was a nipper at the time the more memorable thing for me was the repeated sampling from the soundtrack of Battlestar Galactica.

As for the Sllooooooooooooooooowwwwww motion picture.

I've never had a problem with those long sequences as they play off each other (for me obviously not for everyone).

We see the relationship in scale between a human being and the Enterprise in one (as well as getting a basically a love making scene between Kirk and his one serious female relationship), then you get the voyage through the clouds which I've compared before to Harker's trip to Castle Dracula and finally you get the once giant scale of the Enterprise dwarfed by the voyage around V'ger.

These are purely cinematic sequences.

There is no way that could ever be pulled off on a television show, just as many of David Lean's slow voyages through various vistas in his films couldn't and it clearly wasn't a popular move as I can't imagine anything like it being done again, especially in a 'franchise' movie.

The nearest thing to that sort of risk taking with a well known brand was probably Fire Walk With Me and at the time even the people primed for Lynch didn't respond to what he did there.

So what you're saying is... ... um... that "Meet the Spartans" is kind of a spiritual sequal to "ST:TMP." I guess I could see that.

I just imagine a trenchcoated LFL employee breaking into Del Ray and substituting the SE screenshots in the middle of the night.

I think a hit, new style of comedy film (way zanier than anything else being made at the time) that spawned a slew of imiators counts as groundbreaking.

There are some good jokes in Meet the Spartans.  There are a lot of bad ones.  If you're inclined to like spoof movies, I'd say go for it.  It's not as good as Scary Movie 3 or 4, and it's not as bad as Superhero Movie.

These new spoof flicks aren't even spoofs. They don't find funny things in the genre and exploit them. They don't even tell jokes. It's just endless series of refrences.

Look, it's bald Britney Spears. Hey, that character said, "save the cheerleader, save the world." I know what that means!! Look, a black midget Indiana Jones!

I really think a computer program could make these movies.

 I wouldn't argue. Just that a movie being non-linear and having some kind of twist/big payoff at the end doesn't mean the movie can slack on being entertaining during the movie.

 If a movie isn't compelling you to finish it, then I think it's safe to say you thought it was a bad movie.

"The Little Mermaid"

Easily my favorite Disney cartoon. I think Ariel is particuarly cute because they actually draw lines UNDER her eyes when she makes expressions. This makes her so much more... expressive than other Disney characters.

Also, how can you say you don't like a movie when you won't even sit through it?  Of course Pulp Fiction confused you if you didn't watch the whole thing, it jumps around the timeline so much you have to see the whole thing!  Same thing with Reservoir Dogs.

 I disagree. The storytelling method a movie uses (linear vs nonlinear) is no excuse to be dull or unentertaining.

If I found "Memento" to be dull it has no more of an excuse to be dull than "Tron 2." If the filmmaker is trying something complicated but it's not gripping, then he's failed at something complicated.

"It all makes sense at the end!" only counts if the movie is worth sitting through.

Blade 2 was SOOOOO much better than Blade 1. Blade 1 had the least threatening villain of all time. Blade 2 had a huge, almost epic scope, horrific effects, and a much better supporting cast.

Airplane 2 was just a retread of Airplane. Things can only be groundbreaking once.
