"Dracula: Dead and Loving It"
Not very funny. One of four balls.
I have no problem USING the term, but I've always had a problem understanding "African American."
In general, I know it refers to a American cultural/racial group descended from West African slaves.
I remember times Pres Obama had to do little linguistic hurdles to avoid to strongly identifying as a member of that group, since his own (black) history is actually from Africa, not a member of the group commonly called African Americans.
That group also does not include the millions from the African continent of the "Arab" ethnic group, nor white people descended from colonists, who come to America.
I tend to use the term 'black,' and no one black has ever told me they prefer otherwise.
Oddly, when I use "African American" I've been corrected several times, including, "No, I'm Aboriginal" "No I'm Haitian" and "I'm Canadian."
Not an ideal term, but whatcha gonna do?

The white man's burden.
Keeping track of a handful of terms to know which is preffered is a pretty terrible burden.

Going back to the topic of race, I'm really curious as to why we call Asians "Asians." Why is "Oriental" no longer acceptable, as it means "eastern" (which is an accurate statement) and is more accurate than Asian?
Well, they are only 'Eastern" if you look at them from the West.

There are a few positive aspects of the PT that I can think of (and there are whole threads dedicated to that) but I would agree with TPR that Liam Neeson isn't one of them. You said it that it's hard to find fault with Neeson and I don't find it hard at all. There does seem to be a fair amount of Qui-Gon love on these boards, but I can safely say I don't understand it in the least.
And this is coming from a chap who, while not having any posters or tattoos of the man, consider him to generally be a highlight of the pictures he's in. I can't say I go out of my way to see all of his movies, but I generally consider him to be a plus.
Just not in TPM. For the same reasons as TPR already listed. I find him terribly dull and flat. And wholly unconvincing.
EDIT: Something positive about MJPollard's post... Well, it was bold. Or do I just have to be positive about TPR's post? It was true. Wait, I guess I replied to MJP afterall... It was... defeated?

Apollo Creed's big musical number entrance for his fight with Ivan Drago is very interesting to watch. While it's this enormous spectacle, director Stallone chooses to shoot it as a series of small moments, including some great silent little character moments, rather than just film it like a huge musical number.

I'd prefer to pay the man for it though.
Same here. As odd as it may sound these George hating days, I'd love to be able to go out and purchase an HD OUT and say to myself, "Thanks George, you're an alright guy!"
Amem. As far as I'm concerned Lucas has $90 of my money earmarked for him and a big smile as soon as he lets me buy those good movies he made.

I think I had a Transformer that looked like that. It is amazing that something that size could exist without an internal skeleton, a circulatory system, etc.
Or a loving God.

I ignored mentioning those SW-related works that I consider only near-canon and semi-canon from my earlier list for the sake of brevity. Would anyone here be interested in seeing me type up a list of those omitted works?
For the love of GOD no. You'll break the 'net!

Wasps don't hunt in packs though.
Neither do bees. They do defend in packs though. That thermal thing is weird to see. They do that to bumble bees, hornets, etc. The wasp would have to be trying to get into the hive and steal honey though. They don't go out looking for them.
Hmmm... you're starting to sound like a Bee-apologist. Can you post your birth certificate, proving you're NOT a bee?
Beyond that, the males don't really do anything. They don't gather pollen, nectar, or water, they don't feed the queen, they don't take care of babies, they don't clean the hive (bees are meticulously clean), nor can they defend the hive (no stinger). They sometimes fan the entrance to reduce the heat, but that's about it.
Don't let my wife read this! It might give her ideas to kick me out of the hive!

Right now, I'm having mixed feeling about the "Nooooo". On one hand it does add a feeling for Darth, who can no longer have the Emperor control him like a puppet, knowing his love for his son is more powerful.
You didn't get that before?
Read some of the 5 Star reviews on Amazon.
Quite a few boil down to "Yeah, I think the changes suck too. But whatever."

Actually, wasps freak me out twice as much as bees.
Wasps don't hunt in packs though. One wasp sting, one big splat, no more wasp.
This is a bunch of bees using the "thermal defense" where they mob up on a wasp and use their body heat to kill it to death.
THAT is the stuff of nightmares.
Here's my new Christmas card list.

It certainly is offensive to my mind. I just find it somewhat hypocritical that I could tell you you're a GD MF and that Christians are the source of all evil in this world, but even using the N word in context of the time (as mentioned before, in Huck Finn) that regardless of anything else, the book must be burned. I seriously think there is nothing more offensive to so many liberals than a white person using the N word, even innocently. Notice I don't type it here because I know what will result from my using it. Nevermind the fact that I have many black friends and co-workers. Nevermind the fact that I've seen virtually every other offensive expression used here. That word alone is the only word some liberals even consider a swear word, and it's one so offensive that they would burn you at the stake if they could.
As far as banning, I'm not just talking about school boards. An independently-run newspaper at the University of Arizona had a black man's comic on the funny pages that used that word. You would not believe the backlash. There is backlash everywhere that word is used, unless it's in hip hop or used by Chris Tucker.
So you're... for the use of the word... as long as it's innocently? And as long as no one has a problem with Christians? And it's outrageous that us white Christians cant say it, but Chris Tucker (do you mean Chris Rock?) gets to?
And YOU find the word offensive, but you're offended that liberals find it offensive? For the record, Jesse Jackson, The NAACP, Al Sharpton, the City of New York, are all against hip hop or Chris Rock (or me!) using the word, so they're OK by you, except that they also find the word really offensive... so they're bad?
Have I got that all right?
darth_ender said:
... That word alone is so offensive to liberal minds, even if the message is one they agree with, that we have to purge it from everything but rap/hip hop. ...
It's not offensive to conservative minds? And school boards and/or text book publishers have the power to ban words from hip hop? ?

But for all I know it is offensive to Mormons. I would be against censoring it, but taking it off a 6th grade reading list? ok I guess. Still I would recommend just accepting it as a book of its time. It was written in 1887, things were acceptable back then that aren't today, for good reason.
Doyle intentionally wrote the book to be shocking and sensational. It's a lurid little potboiler, and not much of a mystery.
For what it's worth, has ANY source mentioning the Blu-Ray not either blatantly or backhandedly called Lucas a douche?
Went to TheForce.net forums for the first time. Aren't they are enemies?
Anyhoo, there's a thread in their OriginalTrilogy section that's 100% anti-"Nooooooo!" and in their Saga section its about 75% ant-"Nooooooo!"
Is it possible this is a hoax?
I mean, if the "No, Nooooo!" turns out not to be true, it would be an easy way for publicists to totally discount and marginalize any complaining about the alterations with a simple "they were all taken in by a false rumor."
I mean... here's hoping?
