214, but it doesn't matter.  It's a NIMH Forum where I can post my NIMH stuff.  Unless you'd rather me keep posting about NIMH here. ;)  If you can find 213 other obsessed NIMH fans on this forum, I'll stop posting my NIMH stuff to the Thorn Valley Forum.

Think how differently ROTS would have ended up if Yoda had taken the time to truly provide understanding counsel to Anakin.  Anakin might have relied more on his support than Palpatine's, and in the end may have made the right choice.

I agree PT Yoda was a pisspour teacher and councelor with the perceptions of a block of wood.

lol at "pisspour" followed up by "councelor"

Must be a British thing :p

900 years of being top dog in the Jedi temple apparently made him a little cocky and too set in his ways.

Qui-Gon lies multiple times, to Anakin ("Checking your blood for infections..."), to Watto ("I've acquired a pod in a game of chance..."), to Shmi (claiming he was a farmer in the novel).

The Jedi Council tries to manipulate Anakin and never help him with his concerns.

From a certain point of view he WAS checking Anakin's blood for infections- a microscopic lifeform living in his cells.

Does the council manipulate Anakin? They tell him exactly what they want from him... granted it's at times a little shady. And as for his concerns, Yoda plainly tells him to learn to let go. That's the center of the Jedi philosophy, since they are all particuarly vulnerable to a seductive evil force that preys on their attachments.

I find it humorous that there is a strong desire out there for George and ILM to tinker with the PT (yes, pioneering effects look very... pioneering.) All the while the endless tinkering with the OT is causing pandemonium across the internet.

I don't speak for everyone, but I think a wide consensus here is that all the changes Lucas wants to do would be nifty if he'd just release the OUT.

Harmy's THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK Despecialized Edition HD - V2.0 - MKV & AVCHD (Released)
Time

For years I thought the GOUT was OK. I grew up watching 2nd generation VHS tapes, so I wasn't too picky about the less than stellar image.

Then the Blu Ray debacle lately just got me fed up with Star Wars releases, and all the poo that George Lucas makes us go through.

So I DLed this edit, and Star Wars DeSpecialized.

OH MY GOD!!!!! Thank you SO much for your effort Harmy. They absolutely ROCK!!!!!!!!!! WoooHoooo!!!!!!!!!!

Suffice to say, I enjoyed them.

And casual fans will, by apathy, approve of these unacceptable changes. You should look up the psychological term "Deindividuation"

The fact that a lot of people aren't as discerning in their taste for Star Wars, don't have photographic memory, or care enough about their entertainment choices to do online research before buying a movie you're actually calling deindividuation?

Really?

Really?

Extremely Silly Website: digital-fanedits.com (Was: Extremely Silly Article About Star Wars Prologue On DVD)
Time

Checked out their site on a wide survey of Star Wars messageboards, seeing what people are saying about the BR release.

Nothing, but humorously their tiff with Frink is actually on the FRONT PAGE of their website. Real great first impression to new enthusiasts.

Also, 1/3 of the threads in their "Fanedit" message board is about banning people and hating OT.com.

Why do people keep on saying the scene with the added "Nooooo" now mirrors the scene in ROTS? The scene without the audio tweaks mirrored a scene in ROTS already and was a lot better than Vader's "birth" scene.

...

Sadly, I doubt Lucas intended these scenes to mirror each other. People who think the added "NOOOOO" is the perfect mirror to the one in ROTS sadly misinterpret repetition as a form of mirroring.

Can someone explain to me how mirroring makes for good storytelling?  Granted it makes the films interesting, but wouldn't the fact that the film deals with the Jedi vs. the Sith/Empire and center around the Skywalkers be enough?  If you really want mirroring, run all six movies through a black magic program and overlay all the scenes.

There's definitely value to be had in 'mirroring' as a storytelling tool. For example, in Les Miserables the first time someone is kind to Valjean is redeems him and sets the story in motion, and at the end the first time someone is kind to Javert he can't take it and kills himself, ending the story.

On the other hand, having people always say "I have a bad feeling about this" really doesn't have any particular resonance to a story, any more than the fact that Jabba, his dog, and the Sarlac all belch.

Vader screaming "Noooo" in Sith and then screaming No a couple times in Jedi doesn't increase or alter our understanding of the themes, or character at all.

Lucas's talk of mirroring and 'visual jazz' is interesting, sadly on the screen it's just not that compelling.

Howard The Duck was way ahead of its time.

When HTD came out in 1986, the only successful superhero film franchise at that time was Donner/Reeve Superman, and even that was starting to fade out.  Burton/Keaton Batman was still three years away and the modern era of superhero films that started with Blade and X-Men was another 10 years after that.

Howard is also a very "out there" character - you can't explain him in one sentence and expect someone to "get it".  He's not your traditional hero with powers and a costume.  The only people who were able to really tune in to it (like me) were ones who knew enough about the character to run with the concept but not enough to nitpick the details that had to be changed/deleted/ignored for the transition to film.

The film also took a hard left about halfway thru with the whole Dark Overlord aspect which again, if you weren't a bit of a sci-fi comic book geek going in, was just going to throw you for even more of a loop.

Had HTD come out 20 years later in 2006 in the midst of all the other superhero films, it would have been much better received - nowhere near as high as Nolan/Bale Batman or even Raimi/Maguire Spider-Man, but it would have probably held its own against FF, Daredevil, Elektra and HellBoy.

Nominated for BEATIFICATION!!

Every loud, substanceless works of pure shit (e.g. Michael Bay) can undeniably trace their ancestry to SW. Cinema as an art form became economically unviable in Hollywood after 1977, and we still haven't recovered from the shock. The constant revisions and destructions of the original versions are just nature taking its course.

Yeah, because Hollywood NEVER churned out any crap before 1977, especially not big spectacle films or crappy sequals.

I knew shit was being made before 1977, but thankfully people had more common sense back then and avoided them. I'm sure if twilight and transformers were made in 1965 they would have bombed like they should. But in the last 35 years, shlock has become acceptable to the moviegoing public.

No. Again you're objectively wrong.

The Universal Monsters, Godzillas, Planet of the Apes, James Bonds, were all money makers, which is why the studios kept churning them out.And Cleopatra was the highest grossing film of the year. 1963. How was that Lucas's fault?

And God knows nothing good has been made since.

I think your grasp of film history is lacking somewhat.
