Was at the park with my boy this morning.

There was a really scary looking Mexican dude there; huge, covered in gang tattoos from his scalp, his neck, chest and arms.

I'll admit to being a tad intimidated as a pudgy middle class white dude.

But our kids started playing together, and he was taking pics of his boy on the slide with his cell phone.

While our lifestyles may not be comparable, and I doubt I'd have coffee with this dude at the local diner, for a minute I felt a real, simple connection with another father.

Made my day.

Eleven Reasons why ESB is The Suxxor

sonnyboo just got PWNED!

While Sonny's blog was a catalyst to the idea, I didn't mean to directly attack him, although I do see it totally came off that way.

What really annoyed me was the "50 Reasons ROTJ Sucks" list linked to in that thread. I even remember a thread where some dude said the Saga was stupid because Yoda said "Size matters not" but Obi didn't just hurl the Death Star into the sun.

Besides me just taking a piss, I hope this list and the other one is kind of a commentary on what I see are weak arguments against a lot of things: ROTJ, hating the PT, hating CGI, giving Lucas a sinister purpose to every decision in the creative process, condemning the movies for not being what we would have done, constant talk about "missed opportunities," liking things in the OT while condemning the same thing in the PT.

And while I don't want to get into the opinion vs. fact debate, not all art is subjective. There are objective points to be made, and some are stronger than others.

And of course, I hope the thread's a hoot.

Eleven Reasons why ESB is The Suxxor
Time

1. Totally inconsistent mood. Why so much darker and grimmer than the first film? Lucas was angry he didn't win best picture, pandering to the adult market. Pshaw!

2. Boba Fett. What a lame character! Sure he looks cool (action figure alert!) but all he does is take advantage of the fact Han is too stupid to look in his rear-view mirror. Fett doesn't even capture Han and the gang, he just tattles to Vader. LAME SAUCE!

3. Super Jumps. If Jedi could do super-jumps, how is it Ben didn't just escape from Vader like Super Mario? Another example of Lucas making up the rules as he goes along to be 'cool'.

4. Stop Motion. We go from the great computer controlled camera/stationary model work in the first film, to this terrible IN YOUR FACE stop motion. It's not photorealistic, and can never be as good as real motion. Why doesn't Lucas understand that good effects are subtle! And don't get me started on building a super-walker that CANT SHOOT BEHIND IT OR TO THE SIDE!!!!!!

5. Yoda. I doubt his gimmicky backwards talk would stand up to linguistic analysis. Or, to analysis doubt I it would stand.

6. Repetition. Dude in the Cantina lost a hand. Luke loses a hand. BORING. Star Destroyers in the first movie. BIG Star Destroyer in the second movie. REAL CREATIVE GEORGE! Han's afaid of Jabba in the first movie, Han's afraid of Jabba in this one. GOOD GRIEF!!!!!!!!!

7. Snow. For real?!?! Huge portions of the world are covered in snow at least part of the year, but Lucas somehow thinks that it will fool us into thinking we're on anther planet? What utter rubbish!

8. Time. Luke learns to be a Jedi in like, 40 minutes. That or Han and Leia never change clothes for months. Either way it's crummy writing.

9. Racism. I don't mean Lando. I mean that there's a whole species of ugly little men called UGNAUTS!?!? I bet that idea is what killed Leigh Bracket.

10. No Continuity. Did these people even SEE "Star Wars"? Where's the beard guy who was the rebel leader? Did he die? And if "Wars not make one great" like muppet-Yoda says, why was Ben a general? The Falcon flew just fine, why is it broken now?!?!?

11. No respect for the EU. Luke and Vader already fought in "Splinter of the Minds Eye." How come Luke is so unprepared. Lucas is just pissing on Alan Dean Foster's work. Pissing on it!!!! PISSING!!!!!!!

Yeah he was talking about me and as usual it was an overreaction.... ... ... And let's face it, some people go on as if Adywan invented Star Wars, when in fact about 98% of what's in ANH:Revisited is what Lucas shot.

It's odd to accuse others of overreaction, then make an exaggerated overstatement like that.

I dont want to switch Google+. I just got used to Facebook.

I didn't want Facebook, but everyone I knew stopped using myspace.

And I didn't want MySpace (although I preferred it to Facebook), but everyone I knew stopped using email all the time.

And Netflix is changing, and Napster is a distant memory.

Why can't the internet stay the same!?!?

Twelve Reasons "Star Wars" (aka ANH) Suckz
Time

1. Chewie. This character does absolutely NOTHING of note the entire film. You could totally edit him out without altering the plot. I hope some fan-editor gets rid of this annoying action figure tie-in!

2. Setting. The desert!?! I see the desert all the time. How am I supposed to believe this is some exotic alien locale. The sand isn't even purple! And a jungle planet? Way to think outside the box there Lucass. There are tons of jungles... on Earth! Lame!

3. Masks. In another cheap ploy for action figures, they fill the wacky bar on Tattoine with all sorts of rubber-masked aliens. What, was Lucash to cheap to hire Ray Harryhausen?

4. Garidian. The only really fascinating character gets the short stick. Instead of mobbing up on the heroes and single handedly taking them out before they get on their spaceship, he goes and inexplicably tells the Stormtroopers where they are! It's totally out of character!

5. Ridiculous fight choreography. Why does Obi-Wan spin around 360 just to return facing forward BARELY in time to block Vader's lightsaber? To look 'cool' is why, because Lucas feels the need to try and appeal to kids these day who like spinning!

6. Wacky comedy. The uselesss wookiee growls at a silly little (and utterly useless) rolling droid that runs away?! Stupid C-3P0 thinks everyone got crushed. Did Lucas think the kids in the audience would run away without slapstick?

7. Why is there a grate that you have to shoot open to the garbage chute? How do the Imperials throw away their garbage? And wouldn't the stink constantly come up? Didn't anyone on this movie ever THINK?!?!

8. Terrible editing. The sandperson knocks Luke down and we get a bizarre loop/reverse shot of it shaking its stick. Did Lazy Lucas (was lazy) really think no one would notice?

9. Missed oppurtunites. Luke never kills anyone with his lightsaber. Han doesn't die in a heroic sacrifice. Leia doesn't get revenge on Tarkin. Chewbaca never tears anyone's arms off. And how come the Death Star, the size of a planet, only has like, 6 TIE fighters defending it? Why didn't Vader use the Force to choke Luke out in the Death Star trench?

10. Lousy acting. Debbie Reynold's daughter couldn't even be bothered to work out what her accent was. And could Peter Cushing have phoned it in anymore? He was wearing bunny slippers under the table for Pete's sake! Ford just does a lame reprise of his iconic American Graffitti role, and don't get me started on Aunt Beru! Ug!

11. The title. Star WarS??? There's only ONE war going on, dumbasses!

12. Parsecs. Nuff said.

Here's something that came to me the other day: considering in ANH Tarkin doesn't go after an actual threat (pirates, thugs, an actual military threat) but a peaceful world with no weapons JUST for the sake of demoralizing Princess Leia (well... it was her homeworld), would it be conceivable that it was Alderaan's destruction that really got the Rebellion going and (with Adobe and other FX programs) write "Remember Alderaan" on the side of some of the larger ships in the JEDI battle?

I like the image, but it immediatly brings to my mind the original opening of "Red Dwarf" and I giggle.

Anyone here keeping up with the EU right now. What do you guys think of the newest series. And was anyone else upset that they actually killed Darth Caedius at the end of legacy of the force. I really wish they had him come back and become sorta like how raynar is now.

Can't just ONE Bad Jedi stay bad?

I can NEVER understand why some people give us a hard time for liking the Revisited projects but disliking the Special Editions. They are two utterly different things.

Ady isn't the one suppressing the originals, and if I'm not mistaken he actually made an Empire theatrical reconstruction.

Sheesh.

I've always figured that most people (like me) would think the SEs were nifty, or at least not hate them, if they were just packaged with a decent OOT.

While not everyone loved them, I never heard real hatred of the SEs until Lucas started his campaign of repression.

I'm going to have to write up something explaining why I think we think fan editing is ok and the SEs aren't.

The difference is simple - intention. Revisited and other fan edits are done for fun, as a way to present the film in a new light, either improved from what already exists or an alternate version as a learning experiment. The SEs were done strictly for profit - the opinions against the majority of the changes and the lack of attention given to things that could have been fixed but remain broken bear this out.

I just don't see that as the case. The 1997 re-releases would have made BANK regardless of any changes. Same with the BluRays. Spending large ammounts of money to make the SE in the first place goes against the idea that it is all for profit.

Couple that with the fact that Lucas could release the SE and then the OOT later to make more money is another point that this is about ego and control and not strictly for profit.

If you need to B*tch about something... this is the place
Time

I get free "educational" DVDs each year from the Right Wing thinktank Izzit.org.

This year I get one that has Drew Carey talking about how L.A. shut down a street hotdog vendor for selling Bacon Dogs.

The law is that if you cook bacon to sell, you need to have a sink to wash things. Hot dogs are ok without a sink because they're precooked.

I personally like that law, but I'd be open to an honest debate about its merits.

However, the video does everything it can to obsfucate the issue as if it's about that bacon is unhealthy and fattening.

It seems to me that if you're a political think tank funding free educational DVDs to get your message out, you'd at least have the intellectual honesty to stand by your beliefs and actually confront the issue. If you need to lie about it, it makes me think they don't really believe in their own libertarian ideals.

“Hello, Rebels, look at your Pilot, now back to me, now back at your pilot, now BACK to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped using Gungan scented body wash and switched to Jawa juice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a dog fight with the rebel your pilot could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s a Holocron with Secret plans to the death star. Look again, the plans are now Republic Credits. Anything is possible when your Pilot smells like Jawa juice and not a Sith. I’m on a Tauntaun!.”

Out of all the non helpful responses, this one made me laugh the most.

I MEANT can anyone take a guess what he's saying from his mouth movements. ;-)

Anyhoo, since I don't have anyone for Young Pilot to actually respond to or respond to him, I decided just not to include the shot of him talking.

I did some work editing the Mon Cal pilot, the Falcon gunners, and Jerrjerrodd into the final battle.

We first meet Mon Cal when the squad leaders do their roll call. Should he be "White Leader?"

I uploaded it to youtube, but I'm at work now and cant score the link. I'll post it this afternoon.
