The interior of Leia's ship is really bright, with white walls, white smoke, and white armored stormtroopers. This looks cool, but also lets the blaster bolts really stand out.

... and Darth Vader.

Yeah, you're basically blasted by whiteness the whole scene and then suddenly, pow, Darth Vader strides in as this huge contrasting dark presence with the fanfare and you know exactly who the bad guy is.

"Star Wars" is shot so simply, and yet in no way unsophisticated.

Nowadays this sequence would have had lens flares, and high contrast, over exposed lighting, and 3x as many cuts. There would have been a huge rack-focus shot as Vader came through the door in slo-mo.

Re-listening to the radio version of ANH. Love the increased characterization and universe building. Makes me wish for the existence of an extended version of the film with the radio scenes there.

I still say I would love a radio version of the PT.

A good writer (RIP Brian Daley) could do wonders with the format and extra time to really make those stories pop. Filoni maybe?

Well, more than that: He killed the Emperor. When you get down to it, the Emperor is the real villain and the real problem that the Alliance are fighting. Vader ended that problem.

He assassinated his boss 5 minutes before he would have died anyway.

If Himmler choked out Hitler in the bunker, I wouldn't name my kid after him.

*cough* Godwin's Law *cough*

In this case I contest. Hitler is not just convienient, he's the ONLY real solid analogy to make. :-P

Since when did ROTJ become less highly regarded than even Episodes II or III?

BLAST!  THIS WHOLE POST WAS BASED ON A MISREADING OF 'ROTJ' AS 'ROTS'.

I AGREE WITH TB.  I WILL ALSO SET YOU ON FIRE IF YOU THINK E2 WAS BETTER THAN ROTJ.

Anyone who said Ep II was better than ROTJ would get set on fire by me.

This logic works for me, so let's try it out on you.

Let's say I owe you $30 and I plan to pay you back in $10 installments over three weeks.

The first week I cough up $3.  Not too bad since I promise to make up for it by pay $14 each of the following weeks.  Final score: 3/10. (30%)

The second week, I pay you $4.  You have to admit, it's more than last week, but is it 4/10 (40%) or 4/14 (29%)?  However, I promise I'll pay you $26 the final week to make up for it.

The third week, I pay you $5.  I am forced to admit I have no more money nor intention of paying you the remainder of what I owe you or have promised.  Did I pay you 5/10 (50%)?  Or did I pay you 5/26 (19%)?

Which week did I pay you the most?  Which week did I most fall short?  Can it be the same week?

As the middle episode of the prequel trilogy, I have the least amount of requirement for AotC.  Is it better than TPM?  Yes, I think it is.  Does it sufficiently muddy the waters in preparation for a... water... purifying... Episode 3?  I think so.  However, it was still pretty bad.  Meaning that if the Prequel Trilogy as a whole was going to redeem itself, then Episode 3 not only had to be good, but it had to be good enough to ease the debt of Episodes 1 & 2.  It wasn't.

I maintain that Episode 3 was better than Episodes 1 and 2, but still fell well short of "good" and way way short of "good enough to ease the debt".

If I was forced to watch one again, and not in the Ridiculously Improved Frink Format, it would probably be AotC.  I find it to be the least disappointing, even it's only the second best made.

And a movie that had more than 16 years of hype and waiting that (generally) lived up to the hype: Fellowship of the Ring.

So confused... ... so I don't have to set you on fire, right?

Oh, no, I really meant his redemption in the eyes of others.

Gotcha.

Yeah, that's (*&^# stupid.

I'd actually like a scene in an EU book where someone is like:

"You're name's Anakin? Like Anakin Skywalker? He totally killed my entire family and the town I came from. What the hell?!"

"Cool. But in the end he didn't let the Emperor kill my uncle, so it's all good. Chill out."

Why would Leia and Han name one of their children after one of the most evil men in the galaxy, that tortured both of them on separate occasions and who later turned out to be her biological father,  yet Leia didn't think to honour her adopted father and name a child after Bail Organa, the man who raised her from birth and practically started the rebel alliance?

Vader may as well have pushed the button that destroyed her adopted father and entire home planet of  Alderaan, but hey ! he came good in the end , decided not to kill his only son and threw the Emperor down a hole, Lets name a kid after him!

Agreed. The idea that Vader would be honored in any way shape or form is honestly unconsciousable.

Yeah, the whole deal with Vader's redemption is a bit stupid when you think about all the evil he's done.

I disagree. Vader's redemption is a personal, and ultimately metaphysical redemption. In the end he dies the man he had been, not the monster he became.

After reading, (in the novel's color insert?) that Jawas are supposed to be really ugly and attract insects, the adorable factor went out the window for me. ;)

Not to mention these "scamps" traffic in stolen and sometimes malfunctioning droids, (you don't want to be around when an astro droid goes rogue) and probably don't pay their Imperial taxes!

But they're so CUTE!

Recently my 3 year old has been sensitive to films with 'bad guys' which I believe refers more to scariness than to antagonistic roles, but hasn't wanted to watch the OT for a while.

So we've taken to watching the LEGO: Star Wars films, "Padawan Menace" and "Empire Strikes Out." He's really into them, and a 3 year olds perspective on what's funny is great.

  • "Darth Vader doesn't like being silly?"
  • "Princess Leia says Go!" (his favorite part)
  • "Does C3PO like having a bat?"
  • "Why does Darth Vader's friend shock him?" (Palpatine)

Star Wars audio-drama pitch.
Time

This damn thing is back alive.

I'm going to be laid up for a while, so I decided to give this a go solo. I'm pretty pleased with the writing I did and would like to see it realized.

So I'm producing the entire thing on my own, including playing all of the parts. Once I've got a well produced, music, SoundFX and everything "All Boost" cast production of the first three episode arc, I'll get others who can do things like act.

I'd like to use this thread as a sounding board, and ask for the occasional suggestion as I put this thing together.

For example, my long suffering hero needs a catch phrase, something that he says when things go wrong, especially when he already knew it was going to.

Here are various ones I've tried

  • "Why me?"
  • "Oh f**k me in the ear!"
  • "This is going poorly" (comic understatement?)
  • "I had a bad feeling about this."
  • "I didn't have to do this. I coulda been a (insert job here)"

I'm also looking for a version of the main Star Wars theme (crawl music) that's perfectly good, but slightly different, just enough to make it clear I'm not using the regular main theme... kind of an audio cue that this story might be a bit unusual for Star Wars.
