In an ideal society, Christians would follow all the rules of the bible and not just the ones that they like.

That would be a terrible and insane society.

You cant both love your neighbor, and kill witches. You can't turn the other cheek, and kill men who sleep with menstruating women.

As I have said before, killing people is no longer required. That was a requirement for the Israelites living in a theocracy. I am a Christian living in the same world and country as non-Christians, so we can't apply those rules anymore. There were reasons for those laws, but most of them are either not applicable or applicable to a lesser degree now. The primary rule of the Bible is LOVE God and YOUR NEIGHBOUR. What is so wrong with that? Perhaps you might find loving God objectionable, but the loving your neighbour bit should be less of a problem.

So it would be an ideal society if all Christians followed your particular interpretation of the Bible? And they ignored the ones that you ignore.

Cool.

The interpretation I just gave is held by most Christians, as far as I am aware. The goal towards which all Christians should strive is love of everyone. I'm sure most Christians would agree with me (except those who don't practice their religion--there are agnostics who call themselves Christians).

I think you have a very rose-tinted view of modern Christianity. I think you'll find "most Christians" don't agree on that much. That's why there are non stop schisms for the last five hundred years.

There are plenty of Christians who would describe their particular take on the religions just like you describe yours and behave/believe radically differently.

Painting those of the same faith who disagree with you as "don't really practice their religion" is more than a little disingenuous.

Religion

Even if I am not very religious, I would say one of the most important arguments pro any sort of religion: Hope.

One of the moste things Religions are providing is "hope".

Hope, that next live is better.

Hope, that there is some meaning in life.

Hope, that the "rightous men" will benefit from living their "rightous life". (What is rightous is defined by the religion in question.)

Hope, that the people, which are abusing other people just for their own benefit in this world will get punished in the next one.

Some of the most hopeful people I've met are atheists. People with real hope this world can be better than it is.

In fact, people I meet with the most mind blowing despair in reality tend to be religious. Look at Fox News.

As Christians, Christians should A) apply the laws to themselves and not worry about what other people are doing more than what they do and B) do not judge others because you aren't equipped for the task or risk the outcome of Matthew  7:1-3.

You are 100% correct.

I am not sure "lay hold on her and lie with her" equals rape.    And since, some translations instead of saying "he hath humbled her" say "he violated her"  We must therefore conclude that the Bible considers rape a violation.

Yeah, but in Deuteronomy it's treated like a property crime, as is causing a miscarriage.

"The Table Round" Podcast Audio Drama
Time

Well, a while back I was working with a partner on a "Star Wars" audio drama. Partner backed out, and while I liked the work we'd done, in a way I never quite had the heart to finish it, since any fan-fictiony work is a little... well odd. Not quite something to be proud of totally.

Anyway, I'm now making my own audio drama based on the legends of King Arthur. I've got three scripts finished, two more almost done, all sound editing except dialogue finished for episode one. Auditions are posted at 6 sites online, and I'm working on building my web-presence through Wordpress, Twitter, and Facebook.

Im aiming to be cast by the end of the month, produce the first three episodes in total, and release the first episode Mar 1.

If anyone is interested, I'd rather work with mates than strangers.

Auditions are here

I could use advice or aid from anybody who knows about

  • Podcasting
  • Making a cool logo or other graphics
  • Making a website (better than just a wordpress site)
  • Scriptreader
  • Anyway anyone might want to be involved. Musician? Singer? Alliterative poet?

What do you HATE about the EU?
Time

I just hope Disney is clear as to what the official canon is.

I hate the new DC comics. They 'rebooted' or something, and then say "WAIT AND SEE WHAT FROM THE LAST 70 YEARS IS OFFICIAL BACKSTORY!" as if that's an exciting selling point.

Wanting to know which of the guys who hang out with Batman used to be Robin isn't a fascinating plot point.

If I read a comic about the future of Star Wars, and I don't know if the "New Jedi Order" series happened or not is just confusing.

Dark Horse to adapt "The Star Wars."
Time

I'm really loving this book. I can see though there are TOO MANY CHARACTERS. As a comic I can barely keep up, as a movie it would be nuts.

This started Mr. Lucas on the long trend of combining characters for narrative efficiency that eventually gave us (General  Vader+Prince Valorum+Starkiller=Darth Vader) and Leia as Luke's sister.

And I love the art.

We need new terminology.

  • My lesbian cousin has a biological daughter, who refers to my cousin and her ex-lifepartner as her 'moms.'
  • The ex-life-partner has a biological child, conceived and birthed after she split up with my cousin.
  • My cousin refers to her biological daughter, and her ex-partner's biological daughter as "sisters."

So who is this girl to me? How do I write about her in the family bible? "Third-Cousin-In-Law-By-Way-of-Former-Lesbian-Lifepartnership" seems too wordy.

I think an international conclave needs to be called to come up with new words to deal with this stuff.
