How could Vader not see Luke there???!!!
Time
Janskeet said:

Okay, he's able to read people's his mind but can't find Luke in an almost completely vacuous area?!! Lets not forget that Palpatine found the exact location of burnt Anakin on Mustafar using only the force to find him. I know they're just B-movies, well the prequels anyways, but this always bugged me.

Factors to consider.

Palpy KNEW exactly where he sent Anakin on Mustafar. Anakin was still in the same factory/complex where he killed the Seperatists.

Anakin WANTED to be found, similiar to Luke wanting to be found at the end of ESB. Luke didn't want to be found. Maybe instead of 'vanishing' in the force, he was just not broadcasting actively.

On the other hand, perhaps finding someone with the force has a limit of specificity, like using GPS. Maybe Vader could sense Luke was in the room, but no more specific than that. That possibilty explains how Leia found Luke, Palpy found Anakin, and Vader found Obi on the Death Star, but why Vader couldn't pinpoint exactly where Luke was.

Info & Ideas: ESB and ROTJ Wishlist

Talking to a pal of mine who's a drum-circle playing hippie type amature music producer brought me to this idea.

Do you suppose the happy "Endor Battle" song, or "Yub Nub" might be more palatable if they were brought down a notch in pitch, and accompanied by a slightly more serious, tribal style drum track? Not like a techo-remix or anything, but just an occasional drum flourish.

My pal is slightly unreliable, but he was going to attempt it with the Endor Battle music. If he does it, I'll post it.

So lets say that the GOUT is released in perfect anamorphic, unmolested, non-raping your childhoods, blu-ray perfection, OK? Its sitting on your shelf and you like to curl up with it when you go to bed each night. OK? You are happy.

Then George releases a new 6 disk set that does have changes to the OT. Are there any that you would like? These can be both already existing and theoritical. Thoughts?

If there was a great version of the OOT, then I might just also want to have the latest Lucas-version next to it on the shelf. I'd watch either, depending on my mood.

I'd also not have any beef with Lucas afterwards. The ONLY thing that I think Lucas is kind of a douchebag about is that he refuses to release the OOT, and kind of talks down to people who want them. It's disrespectufl to fans, to the people he collaborated with, and to the idea of film as an artform.

I'm in the Boba Fett is overrated camp. I see him as an overrated thug ("bounty hunter scum") who got his just comeuppance in ROTJ and never rose again

Im with you, although don't get me wrong, I love Boba (and all drinks with tapioca).

But he is a thug. He's clever enough to track the fountain, is cold blooded and looks awesome, and when he turns in Solo takes the sleazy job of being Jabba's bodyguard/entourage, and dies a goon's death. That's all I ask for of a minor character...  look cool, serve the plot, die.

I never get the over arching love for this guy in the sense he was something more than a really cool looking henchman for the bigger villains.

Isn't he President of the Galaxy in the EU now or something. That's just weird to me.

Poll: ROTJ Celebration Themes - 1983 or 1997?
Time

It's odd to me how many people prefer "Sad Flautists" to "Yub Yub."

Without commenting on their musical worth, does that mean the Special Editions really aren't disliked philisophically. I mean, is it fine for Lucas to frak with his films, as long as we like the results?

I Greedo had ORIGINALLY shot first, would we say the SE was great if Lucas changed it to Han?

If it's "Curse you Lucas for changing these movies!" for things we don't like, shouldn't that same viewpoint apply to all of the SE changes, Jawas falling off of Rontos and the South American Pipe music?

Also, the Vader reconstruction scene was inconsistent with the OT in that Vader was shown to have no problem breathing without his mask. In ROTJ we're told he'll die without his mask.

Gotta say, Anakin writhing on the table in that scene is odd as it always stays in various people's edits. He's screaming. This is a problem as he's clearly not opening his mouth. If I ever do an edit, that's gotta go and be replaced by tortured gasps and weak, dying wheezes.

That will make it more consistent with the OT, and not have that sound error when he is clearly not actually vocalizing.

Here's my stab at a new crawl for TPM (it needs to be spaced better because the .... is floating on it's own) :

I like where you're going with this, but it seems a little wordy. He's my humble stab at a re-write.

"The Golden Age of the GALACTIC REPUBLIC is at an end.

Peace and stability have reigned for a thousand generations since the defeat of the vile SITH LORDS, but the Galactic Senate grows weak and complacent. Slavery and corruption sweep the worlds at the edges of the galaxy and the JEDI KNIGHTS, the Republics's keepers of peace and freedom, are bound by ancient law from intervening.

In a shocking move, the interstellar merchants of the TRADE FEDERATION has directed a massive battle fleet to blockade the peaceful world of Naboo. While the Senate debates endlessly, two Jedi knights are dispatched in secret to investigate what is behind this troubling turn of events..."

One of the issues in TPM that confused me, was that a Trade Federation, some kind of shipping conglomerate with a 'trade franchise' ("robber barons" as called in the original Star Wars scripts) suddenly had an army and were invading planets.

Instead of "as you know, this blockade is perfectly legal" from the Nemoidian, if there was more "What the hell is the Trade Federation DOING??!?" from the heroes would have sold the fact Sidious was manipulating them into something drastic, instead of the TF just slightly overstepping the bounds of legal armed blockades into semi-legal invasion.

Imagine if CostCo suddenly invaded Oregon and claimed it. It would be shocking, out of character, and hint that perhaps there's a real menace, a PHANTOM menace, going on.

While I still think your original post borders on the silly, (which is of course your right as a sentient being to have an opinion) I apologize for saying I thought you were a parodist. I didn't mean to stir up any bad feelings on this thread.

In other words, even though the story teller doesn't intend for the language to actually be your language, it would be unreasonable for him to invent a fake language, and make you read subtitles for the duration of the film.

I guess some EU writer was channeling his inner-Tolkien when he made an article or something that the word 'consecrate' used by the Sssri-Bruk aliens in "Truce at Bakura" had no word in the Basic language, and the 'translator' had to pick a word that fit it in English for the books (English and Basic not being the same).

So when the Yuzong Vong had to 'consecrate' planets, and all the heroes had to talk about the Vong's plans to consecrate things, various other EU writers had to come up with all sorts of wacky reasons they could use that word.

The whole debacle was described in one of Abel Pena's blogs. It has to be the single most ridiculous situation that couldn't possibly matter to anyone but a half-dozen Star Wars enthusiast linguists without girlfriends.

Those romance scenes in the fields of flowers looked like some sort of parody.

I agree the romance scenes are painful, and don't work overall.

But the scene in the field, with the waterfalls ("I'd be much to frightened to tease a senator") are the only romance scenes I think work. For a brief moment I buy that thesetwo young people are falling for each other. I also think it's the only time in either movie Hayden and Portman have real chemistry going on.

Some crazy ideas I had for the prequels, some radical, others not so much:

Maybe TPM's finale could be arranged around Anakin taking out the droid controlship. Qui-Gon is dead, Amidala is captured, and the Gungans are dying on the battlefield. After Qui-Gon's death, Anakin hears his voice, like Luke heard Obi-Wan's voice during the Death Star battle. The line "Remember, feel don't think" could be re-used. Anakin pilots (not by accident) his ship into the droid controlship, and takes it out. This way, Anakin is the true hero of the Battle of Naboo, and we also see just how strong he is with the Force. It could also be a nice mirror of the earlier mentioned scene in ANH.

This is a fine idea, and very doable.Kudos

Even in the prequels, Boba Fett is not a clone

I was so taken aback at what I percieve as the sheer silliness of the argument, I didn't even look at the evidence presented.

After looking at the photos, I was actually taken aback at how GOOD a casting job it is, at least from a standpoint of a sweet young boy looking like he very well COULD be the clone of the older grizzled man.

Compare the brows, nose, general jawline, and of course coloring, all though that doesn't apply so much in these pics.

Seriously, from a purely appearance standpoint, it's brilliant casting. The resmblance borders on uncanny. I never noticed before, because when they said he was a clone, I willingly suspended my disbelief and never gave dirty little Boba a second glance. I was perfectly content loathing the character for being a stupid character. But now that you mention it, I need to give AOTC credit for that really solid on screen casting.

Meanwhile we have two distinctly different looking guys pushed at us side by side while we're being told one's a clone of the other. Now THAT doesn't make sense.

I'm only 30, and I don't recognize half the dude's I went to high school with.

A little kid with a mullett looks different than a grizzled middle aged warrior.

It's not like Jango was black and Boba was Asian. Seemed a pretty good match to me (including the young-adult Jangos).
