All Gov't's first task is self preservation.
On a side note, I would argue against this point.

They did kill an entire planet and dismantle galactic democracy.

Additionaly, this movie has an odd religious message,... ... ...
... ... ...At any rate, this is a very fitting story for a movie made in today's religious belief climate, I guess. It would have never flown in 1981.
I don't think the film had any point to make about religious beliefs. I think it was an unoriginal and confused mess because it had nothing to say and went with easy choices, even if they didn't make sense.
The producers wanted a nice clear conflict, preferably about freedom, like "300" had. Who is there to rebel against? The Gods!
The hero needs motivation. To restore his kingdom is not cliche enough. How about something easy like Revenge? A god killed his father!!! Briilliant!
The hero needs to be conflicted like all heroes, and also be a superhero. Lets give him god-powers! Doesn't that go against the theme!? We'll have him not use any until it's really badass, so the audience won't care!
Who's the main baddie? Hades. Why? Didn't you see Disney's Hercules? And Zeus is the good guy, despite being a rapist and King of the Gods who are the main problem in the first place.
It's amazing that this film is both:
Star Wars, Empire, Jedi, Ep 1, Ep 2, Ep 3.
The Prequels spoil the OT in every way. Plot points, characters, reveals, likeablility. I challenge anyone to believe Vader is as awesome as he is if they watch the PT first. They also ruin Jabba and the Emperor, so watching them before ROTJ is just as bad.
At the local apple-orchard, family fun center I was assaulted by a bad live version of Merle Haggard's "Okie From Muskogee"
EGAD! Didn't realize it was timed. I'll do better tomorrow!

I heard somewhere once that later in life Monet destroyed as many of his old paintings as he could find because he was crazy or an ass or both.
It was Monet. Not really as many as he could find, but it was several series of works that he had decided weren't perfect.
I imagine he splashed them with turpentine, slashed the canvas, then turned to someone nearby and said, "That's my original vision!"

I just dont think that the expectations that this will meet with the same success as Adywan's OT Revisited are all that realistic.
Let's say that Ady's efforts result in a categorical increase in watchability equal to 'n'
ANH:SE x n = ANH:R
TPM x n = TPM:R
Just because ANH:SE > TPM and therefore ANH:R > TPM:R doesn't mean that TPM:R <\= TPM.
I'll take a 'n' increase in the PT over those films as they stand anyday, especially ROTS, which I don't think has ever had a great edit.
yeah! Time to hang the cobwebs, bust out my VHS of "The Halloween that Almost Wasn't" and look at gourds!
TNA Boud For Glory wrestling PPV (the one day a year me and some old college buddies bbq, wear old WWF t-shirts and generally relive old times)
Christmas time (more the season than the holiday itself)
The 5 or 6 good episodes of Smallville this year.

Look at the myriad of changing stories & excuses - lost, ruined, Grand Vision, money, technology, no demand, etc, etc - that he's given for not properly releasing the 1977 version of Star Wars. It doesn't matter how many people continually ask for it, or expose and prove him a liar. He just doesn't want to, so he digs his heels in even more.
All kidding aside, he's not right mentally.

ps
It might have been Manet. Art's not my thing.

Leo's thread was started on July 8th, one month later.
I hope he didn't leave because of something I said in the political thread.
VFP told me he left because JediTemple was ignoring him, and it made him sad.

I was pretty sure I'd heard that joke here before. What's funny is who posted it.
I only steal from the best.
I think the final space battle needs more characters.
I'm going to film and insert myself as a B-Wing pilot named (in grand Lucas tradition) Pimpinist Askiqer. I'll be wearing sunglasses to be cool. My call sign will be "Platinum Leader"
Grasshopper walks into a bar.
Bartender says, "We have a drink named after you."
Grasshopped says, "Wow! You have a drink named Murray?!"
"MTA"/"Charlie on the MTA"/"The Man Who Never Returned" a folk song from an old political campaign, covered in the 60s by the Kingston Trio. Hilarious.

"Alice's Restuarant" by Arlo Guthrie. In fact, they already made a (crummy) movie from it.
DIARY OF THE DEAD
Couldn't finish it.
First film to use the "1st Person" camera gimmick that didn't seem to capture anything close to a feeling of realism. It was stagey and the dialogue was atrocious.
Part of the problem was the image was too good. Too steady and well lit. I felt I was watching a regular movie with an occasional awkward reminder I wasn't. The shots were too staged and perfectly framed, and the use of stock footage only accentuated how phony they seemed.
On top of that there wasn't a moment of fear in the first 40 minutes. Zombies trapped in a pool I since was supposed to be scary, as was a zombie in a mummy costume, but both just made me roll my eyes.
SPOILER ALERT!
"Are we worth saving, you tell me?" and the zombie cries blood. GAG ME WITH A SPOON.
Its a pity that Romero hasn't made a good movie since Knightriders.
CONTACT
Good flick. Amazing use of sound effects.
Tonight is Back to School Night at my work.

Blame Lucas's directing and writing for that. Ingrid Bergman couldn't have saved that role.

Helen Mirren as a Mon Mothma.
Mon Mothma would be older in the prequals than she is in ROTJ?
I'd love to go see the OT in 3D.
I dont see what the big deal is. It's not like the OOT isn't getting a good release because of 3D technology. It's not getting a good release because Mr. Lucas is a douche about it.
I'd be stoked to get to see Star Wars on the IMAX 3D.
