Dracula (1931)- The Transfusion Edit
Time

I've had to cancel this production. Not just do to general laziness, but do to an excess of appreciation.

Over the holiday I sat down for the first time in a good while and spent some more time on this, and was paralyzed by genuine love of the material.

Studying Dracula and Mexi-Dracula as carefully as I have to make this edit, I've come to love the artistry too much to try and improve "Dracula." Since I can't re-write and re-shoot the weaker parts of the second half, all I'd be doing is minor additions to the already brilliant first part.

I've also come to the conclusion that Mexi-Dracula, while impressive in many ways, is not the necessarily superior version. Cleavage, rats, and some moving cameras are nice, but there are creative choices that Melford makes that I'm not as sure as I once was are superior to Brownings work. Except Mexi-Dracula's cane. That rules.

There's something funny about how specific this is. It means someone posted a post with "whacking off" in it, and then argued that it was ok.

Bitch (true dictionary definition, verb usage and when not being used towards another person)

How often does the true dictionary definition of bitch come up in talking about Star Wars?

Would explain why Watto was much more willing to give up the boy. His mom was the money maker. Otherwise you'd think he'd rather keep the younger one who would live longer, become physically stronger and therefore do more work.

Watto wanted to wager Shmi. Qui-Gon wanted the boy and Watto wanted to roll for it (probably with loaded dice). Qui Jedied the dice during the roll and Watto was pissed.

Since at no point in TPM is there even a hint of what work Shmi does as a slave, I don't see how any argument could be made about what droid is more appropriate.

Although if they had been switched, I could hear this argument being made by RLM.

"What good is a spaceship mechanic droid to a slave? Wouldn't R2 make much more sense belonging to Padme, who actually owns spaceships?"

Reason #6 seems to have been mod-deleted, which is a shame considering it contained pages of classic hal posts.  Seems like it could have just been moved to off-topic...too bad.

While the whole topic was (IMHO) a bit silly, I think it contained some valid discussion of swordfighting sword play techniques.

1) Gesture mirrors: “Star Wars: Episode IV” begins with a Blockade Runner that has obviously just escaped a blockade, and “Phantom Menace” begins with a (too) similar ship approaching a blockade, willingly entering it.

Wow... symbolism based on guessing something not in the movie based on knowing the name of a ship when the name never appears in the movie.

Also, Obi-Wan and Darth Maul (under all the makeup) are dead ringers

They are?

Much later, as I began to consider certain very strange scenes in the new trilogy, I realized that they were all elements of a hidden story, adding up to a precise opposite of the original trilogy

This article is like The Da Vinci Code of crap!

That's all Lucas has to say about those shitty films, "They mirror each other like poetry, it's stylistic and bold."

I agree with Lucas here. It is stylistic and bold. Pity it's also crappy.

"Star Wars" radio and childhood memories.
Time

When I was 12 or so I got the Star Wars radio show on tape for Christmas.

My dad and I listened to it, one episode a night, all over Christmas vacation.

I mentioned this to him yesterday over Christmas brunch, and he has no recollection. It's funny. To me it was this bright, fun and exciting part of my youth. It was new and interesting, and I shared it with my dad. To my dad it was a pleasant way to kill a 1/2 hour a night for a week or so.

Not knocking my dad at all, but I'm just dwelling on how my precious childhood was in fact just his regular life. I have only the vaguest recollections and have seen pictures of my parents taking me to Disneyland. I have crystal clear recall of lying on the old vinyl couch in the dark listing to "Star Wars" radio shows, drinking cocoa with my pop.

My own lad is a year and a half old now. I wonder what simple things I take for granted are going to be the real important parts of his childhood.

I watch the clone wars cartoon at times.  it is miles    ahead of the PT films   as far as writing goes.  at least anakin  acts like a noble jedi  and doesn't  cry and whine like a little baby.  a shame he did not behave that way in the films

"Clone Wars" is just as much full of Lucas's lies, inconsistencies, and dramatically changed style as the PT.

So your furious indignation has nothing to do with Lucas's lies and bullshit, or changing styles to appeal to the new      generation. It just has to do with whether you personally enjoy a particular show or not?

You're clearly a lad man of great character.

well in the clone wars cartoon which takes place before episode 3 anakin is called a JEDI MASTER.  so  it never  ends.  more and more BS  thanks to poor Lucas.

For someone who hates the JUNKQUELS with such passion, I find it odd that you readily quote from cartoons based on them.

here are some other great complaints which I happen to agree with..

Copy/Paste five year old posts from around the internet. Definitely the way to put all of us "PT Lovers" in our place.

Are you familiar with the term "Goal Post Moving?" You started with a fairly weak argument about Fencing v.s "Asian" Swordfighting, and are now just throwing random posts (by other people) about what the PT is bad.

here is another  thing that points to lucas  pathetic  writing. at the  start of episode 1  the opening crawl  says   TWO JEDI KNIGHTS  are dispatched  to handle the trade  dispute  and then only at the end is obi wan awarded  the title of JEDI KNIGHT.

and dont you  find it odd generial  grivious  caughs  considering he has NO LUNGS!

Now you're inventing nits to pick.

I don't know of any explanation officially from LucasFilm, but with a mere second and a half of thought, based only on WHAT IS IN THE FILMS, I have  answers to both.

  • Perhaps a Padawan learner IS a Jedi Knight, in the same way a kid with a learner's permit to drive IS a driver. Obi is also called a Jedi knight by the girl 3PO at the start of TPM. Being a Padawan is the preliminary starting rank of Jedi Knight, not as YOU assume, a separate and lower rank with a hard and clear distinction.

    OR
  • Perhaps it's normal to refer to active members of the Jedi Order as Jedi Knights in general, regardless of internal distinctions.

Regarding the General

  • I'm no expert in fictional xeno-biology, nor in hypothetical cybernetics (perhaps you are?), but given that Grievous has at least a head and a bag of organs I can at guess that he breaths to oxygenate these living tissues. So how about the cough is caused by some imperfection in wherever the organic breathing parts meet the mechanical parts. Or he has a cold.

Both of your complaints are example of YOU as a fan making up rules and then complaining that the movie doesn't follow it, rather than actually watching the movie.

Family Guy keeps their lips firmly on George Lucas' tit, avoiding perfect times to poke fun at his decisions.

I don't know if their choosing to not criticize Lucas or not. I don't know if they're capable.

Criticizing something requires thought, analysis, and a degree of wit. Why do all that work when they can just break the fourth wall or make another non-sequitor and the Family Guy fans are happy?
