Do you think it would be at all possible to add German language tracks to the set, if I provide you with the German GOUT-tracks? Or is that too much hassle (or not even interesting enough)?

That might be hard as there are already menus done which list all the audio tracks. Also, each track has an LPCM version too, so you might need to include that...

Anyone else wonder if Hayden is still at the end of ROTJ?  Of all the 2004 changes, that was the most criticized.

Hayden still looks the same as he did then. It would be a bit better if they filmed new footage of him that was actually meant for the scene instead of just reusing test footage. Still, I miss Shaw...

Deleted scenes on the 2011 BD...

FWIW, I saw the movie in 1977 in Logan, Utah (3 times) and in Sacramento, CA (1 time in 1977 probably in 70mm, 1 time in 1983 in 35mm).  I used to be jealous of people who saw it in 70mm, but now I think I may have seen it in 70mm because the theater in Sac had 4 screens that were 70mm-ready.

Could it be that you only saw the Biggs scene in the 70mm Sacramento screening? I only ask because what if the 70mm indeed did have a few differences like in ESB which have been  reported over the years- this, grappling hook, etc. If it were only the 70mm versions, it would explain why these never showed up on the theatrical bootlegs.

I find it odd that I remember the Biggs scene this way too but all I've seen are VHS tapes. Hmm. I might have to go rewatch them all some day.

Anyone here ever try to follow up on this guy:

It would be truly wonderful to get a transfer of this but it would also be something LFL would crack down on immediately.

I was watching ESB again and I noticed something. Sometimes when the angle of a scene changes, there's either a dark or light strip on the bottom of the end frame of an angle or the top of the beginning frame of one. To me it looks like some sort of glue used to stitch the film together; whenever it happens, it only lasts for a frame.

Did you want to know about these, dark_jedi? They're barely noticeable and I don't really think a necessary fix.

I assume you're talking about the FE.org form?

Just say "hundreds."  It's not terribly important.

+1 Just make sure you briefly describe the main narrative of your edit. People don't need to see every single edit. If you forget some, it doesn't matter. Some fan edits don't even have cut lists.

Out of curiosity, since you are already submitting to FE.org, does that mean the edit is ready for spreading over the internet?

By the way what paper do you guys use to print out those covers, can I use the standard size, or do I need to hunt down some 8 1/2 x 14 photo paper?

When I print this out I just use standard paper and have the printer print it in a way so that it is centered to fit. It normally comes out the right dimensions.

I guess you can buy photo paper the same size of regular paper if you wanted to get fancy. ;-)

Can anyone point me in the direction of a download for the hires version of the covers?

Hmm... I think the Vader scene does exist aside from within the master of the Holiday Special; after all, it was only full screen there. I'm glad to hear that there's HD deleted scenes; those should prove great fodder for fan edits...

I think this will be the basis for the 3D version that will come out in theatres. I don't think LFL will consider going back to a rescan and manually redoing the 2004 changes. I'm really hoping that LFL did honestly bother to make this version look nice; the digitalbits review does look promising and I thoroughly trust that site, so my hopes are somewhat up.

The one thing that amazes me is how they fixed the Humdinger because of public reaction. I guess LFL isn't yet at the point to completely ignore the public.

Edit:  On the other hand I've never seen the Dynex kind so I can't really compare them to the "real thing".  The reviews are pretty favorable on Bestbuy.com .........

Dynex cases seem exactly alike to normal Blu-Ray cases, same high quality plastic material; however, I got one that holds 2 discs so I can add in a disc full of trailers along with my Despecialized discs. Also, the Blu-Ray logo doesn't peel off and the clasps work well.

....I wonder therefore if the extra brightness boost is not actually an attempt to fix anything but merely compensating for the dulling quality of the polarized 3D glasses.

That could actually be true... I never thought of it that way. People would be complaining so much if the 3D was dark, as the 2004 DVDs were already somewhat dark due to overcontrasting.

Despite reservations about 3D, I do hope the whole series gets re-released since it will open Star Wars up to theaters again for a whole new generation... Hopefully, it won't look too awful.

Yeah but those aren't the authentic ones.  If you can wait a bit you can get them shipped from sleevetown.com and there a couple bucks cheaper even after shipping and handling.

Never knew that... I just saw them in Best Buy and bought them since I wanted a nice case for this. What do you mean by "aren't authentic"? They have the Blu-Ray disc logo on top...

Complete Comparison of Special Edition Visual Changes

Just tell me what it should say and I'll change it.

"The top image is from an earlier home video version (1986 Japanese Special Collection Laserdisc), which (presumably) due to lower resolution, lacked the vertical scan lines that were more pronounced in other releases, including the 1993 (middle) and 1997/2004 (bottom). This doesn't appear to be a deliberate change from the theatrical version.

Alternatively, you could just remove the whole comparison as I don't think it was an actual change between releases as msycamore said, just a lack of resolution.

I watched this and of course, as with the other despecialized versions, it's very nice... I do like the color scheme you picked for it, which seems slightly warmer than the GOUT but much better than the cold 2004 transfer. All the lightsabers looked fine and spot on colors. I must say this supersedes your early ROTJ Reconstruction by miles... especially since it's in HD.

I'm very happy to now by a happy owner of the Despecialized Trilogy. I bought some Blu-Ray cases and printed out all your covers:

Maybe the screens on HTF are just mock ups made by HTF- the photos really aren't given credit or mentioned in the article-  the quality of them is pretty crappy across the board on all of them, especially the super noisy ROTJ screen

If that were true, HTF would be genuinely awful and utterly unprofessional. If they are just mockups, there should be a disclaimer, although that would explain why all the promotional trailers looked worse in terms of lightsabers and why the Humdinger was present in Comic Con.

Hey doubleofive, I noticed that on this comparison here, you talked about the different scan lines in the strangling scene. In fact, the dot pattern (caused by vertical lines) showed up as early as the 1989 Mitsubishi Special Widescreen Edition pressing, prior to the 1993 Definitive Collection. You can see a screen shot of a transfer here. It's possible that the JSC just lacked some vertical scan lines... and it was always there.

EDIT: I just checked the theatrical Betamax bootleg and it too lacked vertical scan lines so it was the horizontal pattern. Has Puggo released screen shots of that particular scene?

In the same vein instead of Anakin actually killing children Clone Troopers could enter the council chambers armed with sabers taken from fallen Jedi.

That's actually a fantastic idea. It makes Anakin's fall from grace so much more realistic, and he doesn't appear to be a psychotic homicidal maniac. Obi-Wan and Padme appear now to be liars in a confusing world and his turn against them makes sense... It would create the original idea that Anakin thought there was utter corruption among even friends and the only one he could trust was Palpatine and himself, turning to the dark side. Love the picture by the way. ;-)
