Star Wars: Renascent *** NOW AVAILABLE!!! ***
Time

Actually, Rapidshare recently has been going extreme high speeds for me. I can download things at 1.5 MB/S and no waiting period with JDownloader. Dual-layer DVDs only take me about an hour. Still, use whatever is more convenient to use Asteroid-Man; Megaupload still goes pretty fast for me.

By the way, photocactivist, I liked your Ewokless ROTJ. Ever plan a full DVD?

Deleted scenes on the 2011 BD...

Oh no, the one thing I was hoping from Empire was they would return the the really white Hoth colouring, that I remember from the old VHS days. If this is a blue Hoth like in the 2004 DVD, I will cry just that little bit (but will still power through the best movie of all time).

Actually, Hoth was originally blue, when seen in theaters. This was proven by a vintage theatrical bootleg and Puggo's 16mm preservation. In fact one of none's pictures is from the theatrical bootleg. When in theaters, it was a much darker/nicer cast of blue than the 2004 versions which look an odd shade of cyan. Personally I like a white Hoth as well; I believe Adywan's Theatrical Reconstruction and AVCHD have it this way.

Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)

An article from the DVD & Blu-Ray Review magazine, Issue september 2011, confirms that Matthew Wood has put his voice in the audio tracks of all 6 movies:

WHAT? His voice didn't originally exist in the movies, so much for restoration... I hope that sound mix does sound really good enough to make me forget he's in it.

Best version of OT non special editions to download?
Time

All releases of the theatrical versions have their drawbacks. Presuming, you want widescreen, you have three main options.

  1. GOUT upconversion- These are upconverted versions of the DVDs released in 2006, normally with restored theatrical audio. They have better clarity than laserdisc-sourced projects but have DVNR motion smearing. The best of these is Dark_Jedi's V3. Available on myspleen.
  2. Theatrical Reconstruction- These are reconstructions of the theatrical version by combining the 2004 Master and the GOUT using a great many sources (from film cells to upconverted versions of the GOUT) in order to create a reconstruction, with the overall quality of an HD version of the 2004 version. They often have a lot of effort pit into them in order to restore things. The average viewer may like these the best, but the most minor of changes may still exist in these and they have crushed blacks (like the 2004). The best is Harmy's HD Despecialized Editions. Available on myspleen or megaupload (links on tehparadox).
  3. Non-DVNR'ed Laserdisc Transfer- This is the option Asaki mentions. They are transfers of laserdiscs, with none or less DVNR then compared with the GOUT, hence less motion smearing. The picture is usually softer and fewer preservations of these have been made. Arnie.d.'s V8 is the ideal choice for ANH, sourced from a Japanese NTSC laserdisc; Asaki kindly uploaded it to Demonoid. As for ESB and ROTJ, you'll probably want to go from something from the PAL laserdiscs; I would suggest Moth3r's PAL laserdisc transfers (which can easily be converted to NTSC with a program like DGPulldown and luckily still found on tehparadox).

Count me in as very interested in this, Asteroid Man. I'm excited to finally see this. Can you please send me the links for both MP4 and DVD once each is uploaded?

Out of curiosity, what do you mean by re-upload them? Do you mean we should do that if the ones you uploaded go down?

Also, as far as manually paying it forward, I'll definitely pass this on to some friends and relatives, who would be interested.

Won't the rights be passed to his children? If so, I don't think it would have much hoped of being released there unless another company, say Criterion, steps in and are willing to transfer/distribute it for a high price.

In terms of it being in his will, I don't think so; although, on a separate note, I believe he did state in his will that a Star Wars Sequel Trilogy can never be made.

FACEBOOK PAGE & Sticker Campaign

Still would totally ruin any reputation we still have, and might even get the forum shut down if the campaign was traced back here.  I highly recommend against it, as tempting as it sounds.

As effective as a sticker campaign might be, it could ruin some of our credibility, as an organized, reliable group for film for preservation. I'd like to think that we aren't depicted as fanatics and emotionally-driven by the public and more levelheaded in preservation. Maybe YouTube videos with "Don't You Forget About Me" could work and comparisons, but I don't think physical stickers is good.

Is WMV ok for a digital copy? And what size do people go with for Digital Copies?

I've never downloaded a fan edit in WMV format, but I suppose it could be done. Since you're rendering an MP4, I think that would probably be better to distribute as PC and Mac users can play them. Also, MP4s and AVIs tend to be the standard for digital copies, which are usually around 600MB (if you really want to compress it) to a max of about 2GB.

As it renders, I'm going to try and split Disc One into parts.

Disc One? Is the edit more than one disc? WinRAR or 7zip are both easy ways to split the disc into easy-to-upload parts by the way.

Extremely Silly Website: digital-fanedits.com (Was: Extremely Silly Article About Star Wars Prologue On DVD)
Time

VFlix said:

In June, 2009, Anti-Matter released his first fanedit title, Star Wars Prologue. Following several lackluster 3-in-1 cuts, it was the first critically-received Star Wars prequel trilogy edit published into the fanedit community, sparking almost instant, insolent condemnation from competing fanedit websites that continues to this day.

"Several lackluster?" That's a bit of a rude assumption. Still, I suppose it's a slight admission of not being first.

"Instant, Insolent condemnation?" Didn't ot.com members read his thread until he insolently snubbed us for know apparent reason other than demanding more attention?

"Competing fanedit websites?" Yeah, sorry but I never heard of his website until this thread... Fanedit.org and here are the main hubs last time I checked.  I'm not sure about fanedit.org, but we have 7,518 members... digital-fanedits has only 185. They're roughly .02461 of our size!
