I’m not good at After Effects. I’d imagine poppasketti would make something like that

The only way for bad parents to work would be if Ochi never caught her parents.
I proposed that they NEVER meet Ochi.
Furthermore, it might be a good idea in that case for Rey to be the one who killed them with her Palpy lightning ala Chewbacca shuttle.
Why would Rey care about parents who hated her, who threw her away like garbage, who believed she was worthless?
Speaking of Palpatine clones, I suggest changing them so they all look different from each other but in their own unique, mutilated ways, although one closely resembles Snoke but with some of Palpatine’s facial features — adds to the inference that Palpatine is horrible at manufacturing lifeforms, hence why his body is decaying and deteriorating, and why he can’t just make an entire army of Snokes.
EDIT: Also, make the clones in question dead, implying that Palps’ clone vessel and Snoke himself were barely successes.
If you’re leaning into the “good parents” territory, remember, I did give you suggestions for how to lean into the “bad parents” territory a while back.
Change Kylo Ren’s line about Rey’s parents being buried in a pauper’s grave in the Jakku desert into:
They were filthy junk traders who sold you off for drinking money. They’re dead, their ship crashed into a pauper’s grave in the Jakku desert. You have no place in this story, as such, there was no reason for your parents to abandon you. I told you, they threw you away like garbage. They did. You’re nothing, but not to me.
(No, I’m not saying go back to TRoS and change it so Rey killed her parents, just that it malfunctioned or something.)
The red is to signify evil.
I’m looking for any prequel edits that remove the Chosen One, whilst keeping the prequels mostly intact.
Have any prequel edits removed the Chosen One?
Maybe I’m confusing it with mood, but Vader’s presence in ANH is something that’s more ominous. He’s often not the focus of the shot, and it creates this really great eerie effect; like how Leia backs up into him when Alderaan’s about to be destroyed. Vader inspires dread throughout ANH, but his hallway scene is all about terror. And that’s fine, that’s great, but explosive Vader shouldn’t be his opening. It should come at the end during his duel with Obi-Wan so that it feels like a major payoff to the hints that they both possess incredible power.
@Anakin All species would be extinct within 24 hours because of that.
Many point out that it invalidates Anakin’s redemption in Return of the Jedi, but it doesn’t, really. He only killed Palpatine to save Luke, his last remaining loved one, not necessarily to save the galaxy, topple the Empire or fulfill the prophecy as the Chosen One — his destiny as the Chosen One was merely there in the prequels to put in some additional weight to his fall.
Anakin could’ve thrown Palpatine into a ball pit and his sacrifice would still retain the same meaning — he did it to save his son. Luke dying ten minutes afterwards from some kind of disease or cancer would’ve made Anakin’s sacrifice all for nothing. His motivations were so obvious, just by watching the scene alone in Return of the Jedi.
I’ve changed my mind.
Anakin saving Luke isn’t the point.
I mean, personal motivation for bringing balance to the Force isn’t really that important, just that it’s done. Fate/destiny often tends to end up being fulfilled unintentionally, or even when actively trying to avoid it. That’s a common theme throughout the ages in literature.
The prophecy fulfills regardless of the reason Anakin kills Palpatine.
First, I’m going to have the ending scene of Rogue One be the opening. The Darth Vader hallway scene is perfect visual exposition for who his character is now since we left him at the end of ROTS. It establishes Vader as a badass, powerful Sith enforcer.
That would screw with the tone of the movie.
Finn saying R2 was a little awkward… like there wasn’t really a point.
I think he’s just trying to get his attention. Though I understand your “get ready” point.
Spitballing an idea here, try removing Poe’s mention of the dreadnought being a fleet killer. Yes, I understand that he’s making up excuses so Leia could let him continue attacking the dreadnought, but I think this is part of what adds to the misinterpretations that Poe was in the right for attacking the dreadnought… and letting the bombers die, even though they could’ve fled with the Resistance fleet.
Just a question, what is the point of changing Finn’s “R2” into “Look sharp” in his first scene?
My family has a Windows 10 computer.
A lot of editing softwares need to be paid so they wouldn’t have watermarks. Even Filmora has watermarks until I have to fully pay it. I can’t do that with my family.
I feel more split on the 3PO redub. I think the whispers are already telegraphed very well with the latest changes: Rey hears whispers when she picks up the dagger on Passana, then again while rescuing Chewie which prompts her to say “I have a feeling we need the dagger”, then she hears (presumably louder) whispers when she picks it up before being interrupted by Kylo, finally on Endor she puts two and two together over the meaning of “only this blade tells (the location of the Wayfinder)”.
Furthermore I feel that it’s better if the whispers are something only Rey knows about (and keeps to herself). That really drives on the idea of her feelings of isolation, in the same way she doesn’t tell Leia about her visions, she doesn’t tell her friends about the whispers. It would even make more sense now for her to storm off behind their backs on Endor, since she doesn’t want them to know what she’s doing (or how she’s doing it), instead of just because they’re running out of time.
Also I’m not a fan of all the small bits that would have to be cut. I feel there needs to be at least some reaction to the dagger’s translation they’ve worked so hard for (such as “the Endor system. Where the last war ended?”), an ambiguous translation would prompt an even bigger reaction, disconcerted looks from Poe and Finn, saying something like “what is that supposed to mean?” or “is that helpful? Rey, does that ring a bell?”. I know they are quickly interrupted by the arrival of Kylo’s ship and the reveal Chewie’s alive, but still it would be odd for them to never ponder over the misterious translation even afterwards. And I also don’t like trimming Jannah’s introduction even more and losing the Babu Frik joke from 3PO.
You know, I initially thought there was no point in changing the dagger stuff since 3PO told them where to stand. But your explanation helps me digest it more. 😃
Has anyone tried putting Palpatine chuckling or something during the looming shot of Vader’s helmet in TFA?
(If you come across this, Sparky, I don’t think this, specifically, would ruin TLJ’s hope message, as it could be interpreted as Palps’ spirit inhabiting Vader’s helmet until TRoS when Palps talks about the voices.)
I think it can be intepreted as the First Order tracking what the Raddus is doing, you know, watching it.
How would Holdo know about lightspeed tracking? Even Leia and Finn are surprised and believed that it was impossible.
I suggest we should still be on Poe’s side and think that Holdo is the one who’s the bad guy (obviously until after the truth is revealed), not Poe (not that he is the bad guy, just that he’s actually impulsive). Only after the truth should the spy thing be referenced.
Basically what the title implies. A thread where you can discuss ideas and rewrites for the Star Wars sequel trilogy (The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker).
What’s wrong with the build-up in the movie?
@RL I don’t think Rey would feel alone. The point of her arc is that she overcomes her low self-worth, as such, she wouldn’t feel alone anymore.
