What really puts a nail in the coffin is considering how once the eventual EA sequel of this game comes out, players will flock to the new title and abandon the previous game. When that happens, even if you paid for multiplayer, there won’t be many players to play with. Then you’re stuck again where you’re left with a single player game that suffers immensely from content to begin with.

That’s why I’m on the fence of getting PS+ if me and my brothers will mostly use it for one measly game.

While watching TFA, I was wondering how comes Rey can pilot ships. I understand she’s a scavenger, and she might’ve learned about mechanics in her work (though unlikely in real life), but when did she learn how to fly too? I mean, Luke has been in the Academy for some time before ANH, but what about Rey? She seems so poor she can only afford buying food, nevermind going to the Academy.
Without a proper answer from the movie, I’d say it’s too convinient to the writers that she’s got all those skills to show off just at the right time 😄

Wait, where was it said Luke had already been in the Imperial Academy before ANH? I thought the whole issue with Luke/Lars was that he wanted to join the Academy but Lars denied him over and over again (Luke: “Yeah, that’s what you said last time too”.) Luke from what I understand had the natural talent just like his father of piloting (I’m pretty sure Luke mentioned he piloted a T-16 through Beggar’s Canyon).

Also, Rey’s piloting isn’t exactly flawless. That Falcon took some dings and nicks during that sequence. The reason she could pull off those maneuvers and escape was because of the Force. Remember Obi-Wan’s line? “In my experience, there is no such thing as luck.”

On top of that, I’m pretty sure Rey had plenty of opportunities flying ships. She, however, chose to stay on Jakku simply because she feared if she left, then she might miss her chance to see her parents again. Rey in her spare time could had learned over the years to learn how ships work, learn to fix them, and eventually learn how to fly them in her spare time.

My little brothers and I got a PS4 this Christmas with that Battlefront bundle. If you press Multiplayer, the next screen will inform you about PS+. However, there’s an option on that same screen to select a 2 day trial without inputing any information, such as credit card. It’s literally hop in and play for those two days. We just finished that two day trial and had quite a lot of fun but yeah, it’s a huge bummer of how much of this game is a cash grab if not playing on PC.

And sadly yes, a bulk of content is online only.

This recently hit me, but I think what I fear most is how the old remaining cast is handled in the next two films. I guess technically Leia is the only ‘surviving’ OT character going forward, so what will she do? Will the next film fade her out where you either never hear of her or she’s only mentioned by name? Do they plan to kill her off?

I would mention Chewie here, but they have a new actor in the suit for most of the walking/action shots. I wouldn’t be surprised if Peter declined to get back in character. Chewie might possibly be in the next two films without dying, and I wouldn’t really mind.

Either you’re forgetting all about Luke or you know something awful that I haven’t heard yet.

I feel real silly here, but yes, I have no idea why I forgot him in my post. Although, I oddly think Luke will be handled fine since he has more to work with. Leia/Chewie, they’re more ‘supporting’ characters in the new films I’d imagine.

Star Wars Books. Good Recommendations?
Time

Ohhh, I definitely recommend Galaxy of Fear books too! I read a couple of them when I was younger, and they were fun to read.

For the purposes you’re seeking though, they aren’t canon, meaning, they don’t tie directtly into the films or Disney’s new Star Wars canon. However, for as young as your son is, I don’t think it will matter to him. So long as he’s getting some Star Wars adventure stories within some cameos of characters like Darth Vader, he should be satisfied.

For your interest though, if seek new canon related stuff, there’s this Reddit post breaking down what Disney has put out so far.

The Force Awakens: Official Review Thread - ** SPOILERS **

I genuinely think Kylo Ren stands out to me because his character starts at an interesting place. He’s a flawed villain right from the beginning of this new trilogy. Don’t get me wrong, I love Darth Vader, but we’ve already seen his character type in Star Wars. The type of villain that already has shit together, just about flawless. Hell, even the PT had this. Count Dooku? Darth Maul? Grievous to a degree. Basically, those other villains were already trained and in their ‘prime’.

Now though, we may see a struggling villain struggle more to attain a respectable reputation. Basically, Kylo Ren could be that transitional Vader character between Episode III and ANH. We don’t know to what lengths or ease Vader gained that menacing reputation in the galaxy AND within his own Empire, but I imagined it wasn’t instantaneous. So what COULD make Kylo Ren interesting is if we see him go from a ‘weakling’ (in comparison to Vader) to stunning badass.

The new trilogy may screw this up though for all I know.

I saw TPM in theaters when I was 3 years old too but barely remember anything except for one scene. Pretty random, but it’s when Jar Jar, Qui-Gon, and Obi-Wan resurface in their water pod thing.

I don’t even have much recollection of me liking it or disliking it. I do distinctly recall having the VHS of it a year later, and felt ‘meh’ about it.

Funnily enough, I enjoyed AotC the most seeing Yoda flip around like that.

TFA experience wins by far though. All other times, it was just me and my dad since my brothers were either too young to go to a theater or not even born yet. This time, my dad AND my little brothers could all enjoy it!

I suspect a great many of the fans complaining that the erased happy Ewok dancing are twenty-somethings who have yet to experienced the reality of the world’s differing philosophical beliefs or the lengths those nations and leaders are willing to go to to try and force them on the rest of the planet. That very much includes their censoring the outside world and history from their people. That’s going on daily. Not even remotely a stretch to show it happening in The Force Awakens.

Hm, I was honestly thinking people around 40 years old and above would feel that way. Not ALL of course, but I was thinking those that grew up with the theatrical releases don’t want the few precious moments of their childhood ‘denied’ because of new films saying happy ending for their favorite actors didn’t happen.

I was 10 years old when Revenge of the Sith came out, so when Star Wars ‘ended’, it ended on a rather sad note, but I never felt betrayed by it. I already had some memories of 9/11, and since then, haven’t ever found ‘happy endings’ realistic. This is why I greatly welcome the world of TFA too.

Again, I’m just telling my experience as a 20 year old. I don’t necessarily think its the people that are unaware of worldly things, but rather, a crowd of older people wanting to believe Star Wars from their childhood will always have a fairy tale ending. It’s the few good thing that they can cling onto, but now, maybe they worry and afraid to know this isn’t true anymore.

In my opinion, I kinda think body disappearing acts are quite… strange, even for the Star Wars universe. Why must the Force take your physical form into the next level of ‘enlightenment’ when you would think letting go of your physical form would be the cementing mark in one’s journey beyond as a Jedi?

With a galaxy as vast, with large assortment of alien species that far outnumber humans on Earth, with a diverse scale of planets, and a magical divine Force weaving the destiny of the Galaxy, can you really believe after Return of the Jedi that it’d stay magically happy go lucky forever…?

The more you try to think about it, the more it sounds kinda silly. Somehow, we have to assume every single individual and on every single planet said, “Okay, evil gone, time to all sing Yub Nub with forever peace!”

Really?

Why is Han so confident that the Empire can’t track the Falcon?
Leia: “They’re tracking us.”
Han: “Not this ship sister!”
All they would have to do is slap some kind of tracker on the side of it, what kind of defense does he think the ship has against that?

Could be just his cocky and confident nature. He doesn’t want to admit, especially in front of this princess, that his ship can’t shake off a tracker. The only time he showed doubt that the Falcon is invincible is when the Tie Fighters come to attack it. Leia expresses that the Falcon may not hold together, Han immediately responds that it will to Leia, but to himself says something along the lines, “Please hold together baby” with an almost unsure tone.

Edit: TV’s Frink beat me.

I would have to firmly disagree that there’s little to take away from TFA. I believe the issue lies in older fans trying to insert their childhood memories and feelings into the newer films. It won’t work, and never will!

The prequels, despite being arguably junkier, still impactful on my childhood just as much as the OT. My imagination flourished. It greatly fueled me to draw, make things with my hands, act out what I saw on screen, and seek an amateur understanding of effects and film editing. Things are way different in the perspective of a child that an adult cannot see. Part of growing up though is realizing things cannot be the same. I would love to return back to child me where I could view all six Star Wars films equally, but realistically, that cannot happen.

Star Wars, even after all these years, will continue to ignite imaginations of children. Prequels couldn’t destroy Star Wars and neither will TFA.

As a quick side note, I arguably think Rey is just as deep as Luke from A New Hope. Luke yearns for adventure and freedom. Rey seeks psychological freedom from the past to move on. Both characters have something relatable.

That write up basically is saying the new films are ruining the childhood memories you had. This isn’t for you then; it’s for a new generation. Continue to watch if you want, but stop expecting it to reconstruct your past experiences. The Spirit lives on in different forms in the eye of the beholder.

Something that just came to me- we see that Ren is pulled to the light, so he prays to Vader’s mask to help him stay down the dark path.

Does he know that Vader eventually turned to the light? Maybe if he continues to worship Vader and his mask, he will be pulled to the light?

I was reading a comment about this. Some believe Snoke is tricking Kylo by exploting the story of Vader. Vader never has spoken to Ben via the helmet or any other relics. Instead, Snoke is making it seem as if Vader speaks to Kylo Ren. Manipulating Kylo Ren into thinking Vader was this tragic hero that was under-appreciated or some shit. You could say that Luke probably already told Ben about Vader’s redemption. However, I don’t think Luke would freely boast about Vader to his new and training Jedi, including Ben. It’s a dark and emotional thing for Luke to bring up. This is of course is Luke’s flaw and allows Snoke to feed into Kylo Ren’s mind that Luke is trying to hide the ‘true’ story of Vader.

While Vader was a very likeable “badass” character in ANH and ESB, it was kinda one dimensional. ROTJ gave Vader a lot of depth in terms of character. It actually becomes interesting to wonder what is going into his head, unlike in ANH and ESB where it is just a matter of who is he going to kill next. While people usually only praise Luke’s and Emperor’s character development in ROTJ, I think Vader’s character gained substantially with ROTJ.

I actually don’t mind Vader in Jedi for the reasons you mentioned. I always viewed it as a trouble guy that now knowing he has a son, that there’s finally something else in the galaxy worth a damn.

Although, what do you mean exactly the Emperor having character development…? I always thought he was one-dimensional as they get, which isn’t bad per se since we need contrast.

the whole redemption of Vader was out of character all along.

This raised an eyebrow from me. I’ve never heard that complaint.
Is it related to how in ESB, Vader was bent on having Luke at his side to overthrow the Emperor, while in Jedi, Vader decides to act as the Emperor’s pet most of the time?

Or in other words, Vader went from going, “I NEED Luke by my side!” vs “Luke NEEDS to serve the Emperor!”

I’m probably off the mark here, but I never put much thought into how Vader might be out of character in Jedi.
