Roughly this:
1 TESB
2 ANH
3 ROTJ
4 ROTS
5-7 TPM, AOTC and TFA (in release order)

Lunacy.

When was the last time you actually watched the PT? I watched them all over the past few weeks, including ROTS last night. We watched L8wrtr’s versions, so the worst of them is removed…and they’re still not good movies. I don’t have a problem if you didn’t like TFA, but equating them with the PT makes me wonder how well you remember the PT.

I assure you I highly dislike the PT, as both movies and part of the SW canon, but there are equally pros and cons in both the PT and TFA: I consider all of them mediocre, but each one of them for very different reasons.

Therein lies the problem. If you think TFA is mediocre, I disagree but I allow you that opinion. If you think the PT is only mediocre, I think that’s poor judgement or maybe just a failure to remember. Again, when was the last time you saw the PT?

I don’t know why people puts the force awakens up on such a high pedestal. Name me one damn thing in it that’s actually original?

Nice necro.

RE: Maul, I didn’t have as much of a problem with it the second time. His reasons for being there are messy and convoluted, but enough people I know in the real world still feel pretty passionately that killing Maul off to early was one of the biggest missteps of the PT, so I guess getting him back in the (big screen) mix has the potential to be fun. I found the stuff Filoni did with the character engaging and interesting; I just find his survival itself preposterous. I guess I’ve got more incentive now than ever to get over that and just have fun with it. It’s definitely not a hill I’m willing to die on, so eh, what the hell.

Most people I know IRL have no idea who Maul is.

He only appears “shallow” because George Lucas didn’t really give him much to do in The Phantom Menace.

You’re literally confirming that he’s shallow with that statement.

Maul was featured prominently in TCW and Rebels, so TPM is not the be-all, end-all for the character’s development.

It is in my world, and many many other people who just watch the movies feel the same.

And therefore he was last seen getting cut in half.

And therefore his appearance in this movie is not just dumb, it’s nonsensical.

It’s obviously not nonsensical in the world in which the film was meant to be a part of (the new canon), and thus the “nonsensical”-ness is just the problem of the standard of “personal canon”

Great. Doesn’t matter to me because there’s zero explanation in the film, therefore it’s nonsensical.

I should be able to ignore EU and have stuff still make sense. It’s not like I’m trying to pretend Jabba doesn’t exist.

But still, in a movie where Solo gets his name by a random imperial officer, I don’t get why formerly Darth Maul would be an issue… (it’s one of the very few things that put a smile on my face)

Because one is a random throwaway joke (regardless of how much humor you find in it, if any) while the other requires a crazy leap in logic which is so far completely unexplained and is connected to a major plot point.

Your comparison makes no sense.

On that subject; I’ve never made any secret of my dislike of Phantom, but honestly, having seen it once back in ‘99 I’ve largely forgotten all of it. I saw a Solo review, maybe here, where someone said they knew it was him as soon as they heard his voice. Truth be told, I didn’t know he spoke in Phantom. He bothers me for what he represents much more than he does as a one dimensional hologram bad guy. She could have been talking to anyone. Maul felt like a Lucas-style gimmick to me.

If I ever get around to a light edit of this movie I’d like to make it so she’s just talking to some random boss and not Maul. I think it’s possible with the available footage but I’d have to see it again to be sure.

I also love my wife’s idea of overdubbing the voice with Snoke.

The kiss Han’s mentor got. Why? Seemed strangely intimate, but also casual and forced.

What.

It was weird in Star Wars. I don’t expect people to just casually French kiss.

Well after the hardcore sex scene in TLJ, this is hardly worth mentioning.
