That is the best thing I have heard all day and I just got back from seeing Jet and Oasis perform in Toronto! Now that we have the official confirmation of completion when can we get our grubby little mits on this masterpiece? Will you be making it available directly Cowclops or will distro still be through TR47?

Thanks for addressing that, CC. I'm not trying to be a hard ass about people asking questions, but I've answered that same question at least 5 or 6 times throughout this thread-it tends to become very redundant. I understand people's enthusiam but please read the thread and then ask questions which have not been answered already if you need to. Also, publicly asking about acquiring v2.0 is a no-no, so please don't. If you'd like more info do not hesitate to PM or email me by clicking my profile icon. Thanks!

FOX issuing takedown notices to Sith downloaders

Good point, Zebonka. The only ones who really do are the studios and their enforcement arm, the MPAA. They are bent on controlling every aspect of their "property" and how the consumer can use it. Defiance of this heavy handed business model is part of the reason why pirate groups like Centropy and TUN exist. The studios cried wolf when the VCR became popular, and it ended up being one of their greatest sources of revenue. Same holds true with p2p apps-the studios will either adapt to using them or something similar or fall way behind the times with their 1970's business model. I will admit it is a "crime" to download/view unauthorized copies, but our western society is too quick to simply label it "wrong" because it's illegal. Few things in life are that black and white and this issue is no exception.

Now THIS is a price-gouge.........

The text was copied from Jim Prillaman's website and they simply substituted Cowclops for TR47. Cowclops is the original creator of the "TR47" set, but I did not send a set to this person as I don't ship to Canada. They probably acquired it from someone else I sent a set to or Cowclops himself back in his ebay selling days. This person is only offering a 4 disc (3 DVD 1 CD) whereas my compilation is 8 discs (7 DVD 1 CD), so it is not cheaper when you do the math.

Info Wanted: Digitally Remastered Original Trilogy preservation set?!?! (on ebay)
Time
Yes, I had those also. They were overly bright and artificially sharpened-adequate for the time but not great. Actually now that I think about it, there is one really good LD transfer.. the Korean Indy set that was made to be sold to westerners during the '02 Seoul Olympics. It looked like snakeskin on each paper case and folded open to reveal the DVD case inside. They were produced by "Movie Korea" and can still be found on us.yesasia.com for some reason. From what I had read they were pulled off shelves after learning that the sets were unlicensed, although very well done. None of this really matters since the real Indy DVDs have been out for some time.

This sort of mentality is exactly how the entertainment cartels want you to think.. the MPAA has reported record box office receipts in recent years, but claims their profits are being eaten away by "piracy". They also claim that it hurts the salaries and wages of their employees, which again is nonsense. It only affects a small portion of their PROFIT margin, ie the money that goes into the exec's pockets. It's mostly spin doctoring by the entertainment cartels to either scare people into compliance (BayTSP) or make them feel guilty about it. The RIAA uses the same scapegoat into making people think that they're "stealing", when the companies have not been deprived of any property-so again, this is nonsense. It has more to do with shoddy product and overpricing than infringement for its own sake. This is something that is hotly debated these days, so I don't expect you to agree. One thing I think eveyone can agree upon is that copyright law needs drastic reform if anyone outside of the MPAA and their lawyer cronies is going to care about it anymore.

Please keep this thread on topic-post these sorts of comments elsewhere, mathpoet (and the others above). I haven't seen the Editdroid set, so I can't say if it's better or worse. I do know the audio was compressed, which for me is more important than anything else. I realize it was necessary to fit multiple audio tracks onto a DVD5 but it limits my interest in it.

Info: OT Preservation mention on G4:AotS by Chris Gore (then he mentions eBay - Ugh!)
Time
Yes, for a good example, check this one out:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=617&item=6395221001&rd=1
What's even funnier is that these are DVDR copies of the asian set with copied artwork, they're not even the pressed "originals".

And is anyone really suprised that G4 screwed up again?

Also, ebay sellers will now get top dollar for their (inferior) sets because even more people will follow his example and try to buy these on ebay. Very sad.

Info Wanted: LD FAQ - especially re the Faces & Definitive Collection LDs
Time
There was a reissue in '92 to fix that problem, although I think more of the problematic discs exist than the fixed copies. The way to tell them apart:
The original pressing has a CBS-FOX logo at the bottom of the front cover
The reissue reads Fox Video with a different logo and has a 1992 date on the back
Other than these minor differences the sleeves are identical.

Info: Lawrence Lessig (Copyright Lawyer) on the "Phantom Edit"
Time
Don't forget it also allows penalties of up to 3 years in prison for sharing any unreleased media file-this is something that isn't touched upon much but it somehow was allowed to ride on this bill. Face it-copyright is DEAD, and no amount of legislation will ever deter infringement. It will simply force it further underground into the area of anonymous p2p apps.

The Family Entertainment and Copyright Act was signed last week by Pres. Bush making obscenity free edits now perfectly legal in the eyes of the law.

Quoting:
"While the studios would rather have bottled up the legislation that effectively ends the legal action surrounding Utah-based ClearPlay, they ultimately decided to abandon their action because it gave them the camcorder bill and legislation that makes it easier for federal prosecutors to go after counterfeiters who make works available before their public release."

Happy editing!
