I just picked this up today, and I'm sorry to report it's a serious joke. The disc contains two 3PO narrated recaps, one of Ep 4-6 that focuses on Luke's parts and a recap of Eps I & II, focusing on Anakin's parts. The special doesn't even have any footage from ROTS, and there is NOTHING new whatsoever contained in it. This is a new low by LFL, as far as I'm concerned. Packaging a cheap clip show with a horrible looking background set and marketing it as bonus material is vile. I feel like a sucker just for purchasing it-I had a feeling nothing good could come of shopping at the human zoo known as Wal Mart. If anyone wants this for some reason, I will sell it for what I paid for it (about $6 extra).

I have this set slated for purchase myself. It's limited to 20000 units so don't wait too long to order it. This is R2 PAL, so make sure that isn't a problem. All 4 films are fully uncut (unlike the prior UK releases) and are 16:9 with DTS! This is THE set to own if you like these movies. Here's the stats:

I keep my personal info out of databases as much as possible (which is how they find you), so if they want to try and locate/ID me, good luck. If you can tell me my own real name and home address, I'll pay you $50. Some things to avoid:
Listed phone numbers Change of address forms Voter registration forms Giving out your home address/social security number/home phone when not legally required Public group registrations (NRA, political parties, etc) Product "warranty" cards (one of the WORST scams perpetuated by corporations) Dealing with companies who sell your info
This is just a starter list and is not exhaustive.
Best Buy carries them because there isn't a controversy about VHS to VHS or DVD to VHS conversions. With all the smoke blowing the studios do about piracy, their methods of combating it are woefully ass backwards. They understand that if they produce a title, some group in East Asia is going to counterfeit and sell copies of it. They also understand that if they do NOT produce a title, someone else will from whatever material is available (which is the case on this site). The DMCA does forbid circumventing copy protection algorithms but no one really cares except IP lawyers and their clients. The reason they are suing their customers and making such a hoopla about it is fear-they are afraid of a perceived threat to their outdated business models in which they control all aspects of distribution. The same basic problem happened when the VCR came about-the studios thought it would bankrupt them, and it did the opposite when they grasped the potential the new technology had to offer. It's really no different now except the end user has much more control, and that is what they don't want. Anyway, for LFL to sue you, they would first have to know who you are, and where you live. Somehow, I seriously doubt anyone here would volunteer that info.
It's very simple-if GL/LFL had only done what Paramount/Spielberg did with the Indy series (only fixing errors and cleaning up the prints), this site would not be here and we would not be forced into alternate methods of saving the films. People would have no reason to complain. The problem with this is that LFL wouldn't be able to milk its main cash cow endlessly, so economically it is not viable for them.
I have but 2 words for you: FREE HAT Seriously, though.. GL has seemingly started a trend, albeit for the worse. If you know anything about Ozzy's band, this has happened to them also-Sharon didn't want to pay royalties to the original performers from the older albums, so when they did a new remastering a few years ago, they simply rerecorded the bass and drum tracks with their current members. Not only does it sound totally out of place having 20 year old guitar and vocals mixed with modern rhythm tracks, but the tracks lack the vivaciousness and emotive qualities of the original artists' work. Thankfully, you can still find the old releases in abundance, so you are not FORCED into buying something you don't really want. This is a trend which needs to stop.
Don't forget "Weekend at Burnsie's", the one where Homer becomes a medical marijuana patient. My favorite characters are CBSG, Rainier Wolfcastle, Homer, Moe, and Duff Man. McClure & Hutz were great also. One of the best quotes: "Ohhh.. my god, something terrible has happened!" - Flanders "HA! Fooled ya, Flanders. Made you think your family was dead... HAHAHAHA!" - Homer "Yeah... haha... good one, Homer..." - Flanders
The Korean and Hong Kong R3 discs are uncut and NTSC. There are no commercial releases of the film with the Hindu passages in the soundtrack from what I have read.
It's just something that the studios do on commercial discs as a means of control, which I find annoying. I don't really see why a home made disc would contain them-fan made DVDs are also about wresting control back somewhat. Maybe I'm just strange, but I like being able to skip unecessary portions and go straight to the menu. As far as shrink causing loss, I didn't notice anything but then again my setup isn't exactly top notch.. good but not wonderful. I'll keep in mind for the future.
BH-Thanks for all the work on your releases, but I was wondering why you author your discs with PUOPs? I end up having to run your releases through Shrink to get rid of them. Is there some reason why you do that?
I was one of the only kids in my jr high who was able to beat Tyson at Punch Out. He isn't that difficult if you can avoid the knockdown punches, which he telegraphs ever so briefly. If you use the quick dodge move you can defeat him easily. I had more trouble with Super Macho Man than Tyson. If you want to go directly to Tyson, enter 007 373 5963. I still remember the code after 15+ years. Other tough games I won were: Castlevania (the first one is quite difficult), Trojan, Bionic Commando, Ghosts & Goblins (you can beat Satan with the cross shield weapon), Super Mario 1 & 2 (3 came after I lost interest in the NES and moved on), Karnov (stupidest ending ever, the game is EXTREMELY difficult and all it does it say "Congraturations: The End" on a black screen, and yes the misspelling was in the game), Kung Fu, Gun.Smoke and others I probably don't recall. I used to be a real whiz at games, sometimes to my detriment-my friends at school complained that I didn't talk about anything else. All in all I have fond memories of wasting my youth proving I was king video game geek.
LFL won't fix anything because they would have to admit they were errors to begin with, instead of the "creative decisions" excuse they pawned off on the fans. They will not admit culpability for releasing a mediocre product; I imagine they view themselves as being infallible. In their eyes, there is no problem and thus to reason to fix anything.
LFL has proven again and again they are more than happy to continually rerelease these movies to sell people the same thing over and over, but this one has me baffled-there's nothing new about it whatsoever, and it's actually inferior to the '04 set since there's no bonus disc. Calling it a "limited edition" is just another tired marketing ploy. There's nothing remotely special or interesting about this set-it doesn't even include anything extra like an exclusive bonus DVD or film cel. LFL has become like Paramount in regards to Star Trek, in that their main cash cow has been milked to death, but at least Paramount improves their rereleases. This is just a joke and an insult.
What censorship? The only alterations I'm aware of is the removal of the reflection in the glass seperating Indy from the snake and removals of techincal errors, like visible boom mics. How does fixing errors that were missed constitute censorship? I know ToD was censored in the UK but that is all I'm aware of. If you have other info please bring it to light.
As much as I loathe the human zoo that is called Wal Mart, I may have to pick this up. Apparently there is about an hour of extra material, something about a chronicle of Luke and Anakin, probably narrated by 3PO.
Shrink can't read certain DVDs, so it's been advised by experts it's best to use Decrypter and rip to your HD, and then use Shrink. You can save to a different folder then burn with whatever program you use. I use this method and it works well-the only downside is that you need about 12-13 GB free per disc.
