…or Sassy Trump and…
…or Sassy Trump and…
As for a change in the Anthem, Jerusalem was mentioned, the only problem I see with that is that it is named after a city that is not in the UK. Jerusalem is in Israel. That is like America using an Anthem named “Paris”. It seems odd to me.
‘Jerusalem’ the poem (set to music) isn’t literally about the actual city of Jerusalem, it’s about England.
In fact it’s specifically about Jerusalem not being in England 😄
No it’s not “specifically” about that. It’s about about trying to make England a better place (than a land of “dark satantic mills”). The better place being a conceptual notion of an idyllic and mythic “Jerusalem”. Not about literally sending for the blueprints of the city of Jerusalem from Palestine and ordering a pallet of bricks.
It’s a warning about not being complacent and too nationalistic.
That’s a stretch. Complacency in a sense yes (because it’s about striving to make something imperfect, perfect), warning about being too nationalistic no.
and it’s sung frequently by people who are complacently nationalistic.
The people who sing it do not change it’s content.

The Royals of today basically don’t have any real power.
Compared to their elected government, not to their average subject.
First question. Whose arm is that?!? There are many other questions.
The colour coordination is pretty good though.
This following one isn’t actually completely terrible but a good example of taking the same piece of artwork and then f**king it all up. First the awesome US cover (which hues closely to the poster feel)…
…and the ruined UK cover…
I may have to get the more expensive film book edition, or import the US BR just to not have that on my shelf LOL.
God is getting angry over nothing. There is no such website, I checked.
“I’m Peach” adorable.
Can we just assume you’re going to agree with everything he says so you can spare us 30 more posts with the same gif?
It is of course a loop of somebody determinedly clapping something they know is wrong out of arrogance.
bullsh**
It’s from Citizen Kane. The meme is a loop of Kane angrily clapping his wife’s terrible Opera performance, which he knew all along was going to be terrible, everybody told him she was terrible, she told him she was terrible but he’s too arrogant by that point to listen.
Why it’s become a meme to indicate strong approval of something, rather than self-delusion, is anybodies guess.
Best movie ever.
btw, did you even read what chyron8472 said those posts of I clapping?
Nope, didn’t even look at it.

To be clear I am just randomly quoting this exchange from 5-days ago in this same thread, it is not intended to make any ironic comment on recent posts…

We do not live in normal times. The truth right now is sickening. Do you even fucking know what happened last week?!? White supremacists control this country. THAT IS A FACT. President trump is becoming more authoritarian and more unhinged on an hourly basis now. Of the forty-four previous administrations, WE HAVE NEVER SEEN ANTHING THIS TERRIBLE come from our president. Instead of trying to shut me up, tell how I’m wrong according to your delusional mind.WOULD THE MODS PLEASE BAN THIS FUCKING ASSHOLE‽‽‽‽
If he is not banned, I am very tempted to break a few rules of this place and cause quite a disturbance in protest!
I don’t get your point.
Newsflash! Anti fascist demonstrators in Charlottesville call for the US Government to: “Ban these f*king a**hole Nazi’s from protesting”. An anti fascist spokesperson was quoted as saying “If the Nazis are not banned from America, we are very tempted to break a few windows in this city and cause quite a disturbance in protest!”

You agree then, everybody chooses to turn away and not listen to his hateful garbage and then somebody makes an (implied) threat of violence to the Nazi by angrily saying “Now sit down and don’t open your mouth again!”.
I know. My point is, I don’t want to be like the Nazis. Therefore, I am against censorship of speech that I disagree with/find offensive.
Nobody was being censored. As I only just explained, FOS is only possibly in question when the state or courts intervene. The Nazis were free (and legally approved apparently) to make their hateful, offensive and terrifying (to the people it was being directed at) speeches. People just didn’t like it and gave them a kicking for being such contemptible a**wipes.
You’d really stand there silent in the street and just watch a fully armed Nazi militia squad, with burning torches march past a Synagogue shouting anti-Semitic slogans because you didn’t want to impinge on the Nazi’s FOS? Exercise your own FOS and tell what sh*tty people they are, loudly.
I know, right? Who wants to fidget with Steve Bannon’s head all day?
Baron Harkonnen’s face Doctor?
I’d still love some ideas on this one I posted last year:

I think it was a late 60s/early 70s American counter-culture/hippy(possibly?) desert road movie, of the Easy Rider variety. I saw it when I was probably too young to understand what it was all about but found it weird and interesting and for some reason it stuck with me like a dream half-remembered. I think I recall a scene with characters blowing smoke rings outside a diner/bar/ranch-porch or something.
Maybe some fresh faces/eyes can offer suggestions?
I have to admit “His McMaster’s Voice” is pretty good.
Oops.
I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.

Perhaps that is what they thought just before they turned the hoses on MLK.
Perhaps they did think that but they were idiots then. MILK =/= Nazis. Nobody thinks that (except the Nazis). You don’t think that. Also to put it as simply as possible… Good people fighting back against bad violent people for a very good reason =/= Good non-violent people being attacked by the state for a very bad reason (That sounded like a Trump sentence. Sad).
There seems to be a widespread misunderstanding of what freedom of speech is. e.g. If you say something inflammatory and the state, or the courts ban you from saying it, or imprison you for saying it, you may be having your FOC denied. If you say something inflammatory and people just don’t like what you said and become inflamed, your FOC has not been denied… you’re just an arsehole 😉
An example of that would be if you said a guys wife was ugly and the state imprisoned you for saying it (probable FOC denial). Compared with you saying a guys wife was ugly and then that same guy punching you in the face. No denial of FOC but maybe you learned a lesson in politeness. Some people might deal with that situation differently…
Of course some countries have libel laws, to prevent FOC from allowing people to just lie and defame other people without consequence. So if somebody, for example, lied about your father being part of the plot to kill JFK, you could sue them for defamation of character. Some people might deal with that situation differently…

Some might find this famous (in Britain) story relevant to recent events. What is known as “The Battle of Cable Street”:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Cable_Street
4th October 1936. Oswald Mosley’s B.U.F Party (British Union of Fascists) aka “The Blackshirts” decided to stage a march through the middle of London’s Jewish neighborhoods to intimidate them. They had a “permit” to march and therefore support from the Police, despite protests from the people of the East End. So the people took matters into their own hands, erected barricades, prevented them from marching and generally kicked the Nazis asses back out again.
It’s a celebrated event, commemorated with a stunning Mural. Well worth seeing if you are in London, I can assure you.
Cut to August 2017 and aggressively fighting back against Nazis is a bad thing? Because there is blame on both sides? I don’t think so.
Very bland but it could’ve been worse, they could have used the Japanese poster:
Yesterday…
…the POTUS, the leader of the free world, wink-wink inciting the Nazi fringe of his followers to commit religious murder… the week after they committed an act of terrorism on his own people and the day after an attack in Europe.
He brought up this Pershing myth when he was a candidate (which would have been bad enough)
but lots of crazy people run for office. When it’s the President doing it, it’s unbelievable.
I had some fun with paintshop.
Oh dear me, you are right. The extra space on the BR to focus on that arm makes it worse. That reminds me of a recent movie poster that continues to freak me out (t’s also the DVD cover too)…
An uncanny valley effect of bad photo-shopping, where it’s close to being right but when you look harder everything is wrong.
Re the last two examples. This isn’t the awesome coverart thread.
Considering the many, many lame photoshooped covers that the 5thE has had, that one is neat tidy, thought out (a consistent square motif) and colourful like the movie. You might not personally like it but it’s a good piece of design work.
The Spiderman one is supposed to look like a kid (Peter) drew it on his text book. True that the design idea has arguably been ruined by slapping the real title at the top and a drop shadow, instead of “Peter drawing it on” with a marker pen or something.
These are true related photo-shop nightmares…
(Holy hell that 4K Kwai cover is terrible)
