Episode VII: The Force Awakens - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD *
Time

So if Stormtroopers are in it, then the Empire is still the opposition in the ST (Right?). What would make more sense?

1. Quick Endor party but the war with the Empire still rages 20 years later.

or

2. VE day party, after which peace reigned for 20 years but now the Empire are back.

I don't think I ever fully decided which of those two senarios, the end of ROTJ meant. Obviously after 1997 the canon went for number 2 but f*ck what the SE said ;-)

Not sure the cheap and easy applies...

I should clarify that I meant like-for-like. You get "more" for your money with CGI animation in terms of scale and you can turn it over quicker... it's "the quick and easy path". If you wanted to handraw an epic film on the scale of what CGI can achieve, then you're gonna be growing old before it's done. But oh my goodness would it be beautiful.

I dislike almost all of the first 9 decades of animation.

K

The problem I have with CGI animation is that it's quick, cheap and easy. So filmmaking being a business means that all films are CGI. I prefer the 2D look but I like 3D animation too, I'd just like to see it used less. More variety I say.

Hopefully this is just another stupid rumor, especially considering the source.

Boba Fett Movie Casts Jango Actor Temuera Morrison

Assuming this rumour is true for a moment... Temuera is a great actor and was fine as Jango in my book but if he's playing Boba I won't exactly be queuing up to see that movie. Boba's style of voice was established in ESB (HS actually LOL) and it wasn't antipodean.

I found it really wierd in Ep2&3 that most of the supporting cast (Including CGI creatures) suddenly started talking with Australian and New Zealand accents after them all speaking in a blend of British/American accents in the other 4 movies, various TV shows and a plethora of games. In the OT supporting actors with strong regional accents (Cockney, Irish etc) were dubbed over to give the galaxy some kind of uniformity. Naturally this was something Lucas never bothered with doing in lazy PT mode.

Fett Snr having the wrong accent in the PT is small fry compared to all the other travestys so it doesn't bother me too much in the grand scheme but it's an oversight that should not be continued forward into the new SW era IMO.

The random things that you saw today, that made your life that little bit better thread
Time

I made this recipe for Indoneasian Beef Ren Dang.

Words are incapable of describing how delicious it is. The best curry I've ever eaten, nevermind ever cooked and it's really easy too. Throw it all in a blender, then throw that in a casserole pot and leave in the oven for hours. Yum yum! (Good news for for the Veggies, Quorn tastes pretty nice in it too).It made my day! :-)

FYI I only put in one Red Chilli (Instead of 3), that was enough to just make the eyes start to water on the last mouthful ;-)

Oh and if the BBC 'How to' video above ^ doesn't work for you, here is a YouTube link...

The 12th Doctor is really reminding me of Pertwee.

Yes and Clara is somehow morphing into Jo Grant!

btw Capaldi is supposed to have said the look is based the 'Thin White Duke' era Bowie costume...

No doubt Capaldi saw this ^ at last years extremely popular Bowie exhibition. I guess the Doctor Who costume department added the Pertwee red lined coat to complete the look. The exhibition ran at almost exactly the time Capaldi would have been told he'd got the gig and the same time he'd be looking round for inspiration.

The Witches (1990)

Decent movie, incredibly poor ending.

7/10

Ahem, cough, new book ending, cough, cough.

Outland (1981)

I've never seen Prometheus, but I'm certain this film works better as a spinoff of Alien even if it isn't meant to be one.

7.5/10

I've said similar before. All it would take is a little Alien music to make 'Outland' feel like a full-on side-quel to Alien.

Where can i get high quality versions of the deleted scenes from the prequels?
Time

"Rough Presentation" you said it ^. Maybe there are a few more useable bits if you've got super CGI skills. Mostly it's stuff not worth rescuing like Spielberg's 16-hour Grievous chase animatic ;-)

If I recall, the only two bits that are in a fit state are: a scene on board Grievous' ship and the extended talk between Anakin and Palpatine in the office (The latter is essential for a ROTS edit IMO).

Rip with whatever program you have. Open in VirtualDub. Change framerate from 25fps to 23.976fps. Save as a lossless Lagarith AVI. Open that in whatever editor you are gonna use alongside your 23.976fps Blu-Ray rip.

I'd suggest editing in 1280x800 or just SD. I can't see those scenes flying in a full HD edit but others may disagree.

FYI Amazon-Prime seems to be streaming all the old classic Who episodes (And the new show episodes). It's pay-per-view for the classics but I'm crossing my fingers that they'll make some of it free for Prime-Members at some point.

All the ST:TOS is free right now so it's not unlikely.

And two hard boiled eggs!

What can be said about this movie that has not been said before. It is one of the best comedies ever made and one of The Marx Brothers best films. if you have not seen this movie drop everything you are doing and go watch it now.

9.5/10.

Only 9.5? I gonna join a club and beat you over the head with it ;-) (and one Duck egg)
