Regardless of my displeasure with the new "creative" casting choice... it looks like the actress is going to be a great character/villain, even if it's not really the proper Master character that we know from Delgado and Ainley (Simm wasn't The Master either). It'll be cool if this time "she" sticks around to trouble the Doctor once or twice a season like "he" used to, instead of just turning up in a special and dying.

Oh, and why is she dressed exactly like Mary Poppins anyway?

She was v. funny on Green Wing

I keep reading this thread title in a modern London/West-Indian accent, as in "This New Trilogy is gonna be ahll blaze and sh*t, ya know blud. Truth", that sort of thing. Just thought I'd mention it. It makes me laugh everytime I open the "General Thoughts" forum right now.

Where might the "General Thoughts" forum be found?

Only in my head, it's a very special place I assure you.

Should Darth Plagueis have had a larger part in the PT?

*PALPATINE : No, no, no, no. No, you see, the thing about the light side, is that the light side is for people who like the sort of things that go on in the light side, like, uh, well, singing, talking to ghosts, watering pot plants...
ANAKIN : Ew...
PALPATINE : Whereas the dark side, on the other hand, is for people who like the other sorts of things: [with relish] adultery, pillage, torture — those... areas.
ANAKIN : Really?

Have you suggested this to Frink for the Opera scene? Although I think he's told me before that he doesn't own that show.

Episode V: The Ridiculousness Strikes Back

It would be neat to splice in Uhura "Meet you at the rendezvous..." dialogue from Star Trek III into the "Meet you at the rendezvous" dialogue bit from the end of ESB.

As I've now set up in ROTR, Chewie will have Fozzie's voice.  I can also see doing some Grover for Yoda since it's basically the same voice.

...and Rizzo The Rat for Salacious Crumb right?

He can't conceive of Clara's boyfriend being math teach because he was a soldier and soldiers can't possibly be smart enough to be math teachers, they can only teach Phy-ed.    Look as the way he talks down to him!

It was a joke playing on the stereotype that PE teachers are often ex-soldiers (It's a stereotype in Britain anyway so maybe the joke doesn't translate?) not the Doctor saying that soldiers are stupid. e.g. He can't believe that Pink isn't a PE teacher, not that he can't believe Pink is a Maths teacher.

Also you've maybe missed the subtext of the episode. He was talking down to him, abusing him and dismissing him because he wasn't sure if he was "good enough" for Clara (Like a protective father). Pink points this out himself at the end of the episode. It's not about The Doctor being nasty, it's about him caring for Clara. Give Capaldi a chance and you'll perhaps see things like this more easily?

Does this really sound like the Doctor to anyone?   Does this sound like the guy who was friends with Brigadier Sergeant Benton?

Yes it does. The Doctor has always taken an instant dislike to soldiers (and authority figures in general) but when circumstances forced him to, he struck up friendships with several members of UNIT. But still he was still opposed to their methods in each an every episode. See 'Doctor Who and The Silurians' where the Doctor and the Brigadier are almost enemies.

Also this is the 'post-War Doctor' Doctor. The subtext is that The Doctor is now secretly ashamed of his own soldiers past and acting out on others.

Now lets discuss "Kill The Moom" ...

Any and all criticism of that episode stands. It was a disaster on almost all levels.

I also find his accent very difficult to understand.   Thank God captions are regular thing on tvs nowadays.  He had been a Doctor during the classic era when many tvs didn't have captions, I don't know what I would have done.  But I am sure it is easier for people in the UK to understand him.

His accent isn't that strong as Scottish accents go, but that combined with the very quick way Capaldi speaks probably makes it harder to understand.

Did you watch 'The Thick Of It' or the 'In The Loop' movie? Capaldi's accent was much stronger in that and he spoke even faster. It's very funny and worth a watch (If you don't mind swearing... a lot!).

I don't like how they advertised "here is the new Doctor's costume" and he only wears it for a tiny bit at the end of episode 1 and all of episode two and then it is changed.   A bit dishonest.

He's changed the colour of the shirt a few times but the rest of the costume is the same.

Re xhonzi and Erik Pancakes...

...thanks so much for those detailed answers guys! It's this insanely complicated and convoluted publishing schedule that has always put me off getting into Marvel :-(

I like a nice self-contained linear auteur story myself (More the British comic style I guess), as such the 25 Abnett issues appeal to me (Plus I've liked a couple of Dan's 40K books). I might just dip in there and see if it grabs me. The art and script look appealing...

If I like it, I'll go back and fill in some of those gaps you both mention like Annihilation.

Thanks again :-)

I'd never read (or even heard of) GOTG before the movie. But now I'm interested in going back and reading some. My local book store had put together a display stand of GOTG (and Starlord) books but I didn't know where to start.

Can anybody reccomend a collection/paperback/volume/story-arc/writer-tenure that is a good place to start? I'm more interested in books with the same-ish vibe as the movie (and with decent art obviously).

I had a thought.  Since the new Rebels show has some JEJ dialogue in it, perhaps there might be some useful lines that could get pasted into this edit.

I doubt it as it seems as time goes by they forget how to do their own characters and Lucasfilm forget how to process the vocals properly. As Much as I appreciate Anthony Daniels' dedication to the character he long ago forgot how to do 3PO's voice. It would be lovely to be proved wrong though about JEJ in Rebels :-)
