So the ball droid (BB-8) isn't CG, but a real prop , as confirmed by Mark Hamill. In bet the whiners on the net that were saying the ball droid was "bad Cg" are going to be a little butthurt about this one ;)

https://www.yahoo.com/movies/mark-hamill-on-playing-with-the-star-wars-the-105015597302.html

Not only that but the people who were suggesting that a droid that was a ball with a head on top, wasn't physically possible, are gonna be surprised when they see that JJ actually had them build it.

Gods bless Mark Hamill, he is such an awesome guy...

The great thrill for me was watching the video of fans watching the trailer. Did you see that? Oh my god! I forget how happy this stuff makes a certain segment of our population. I mean, I really was moved to see these people that happy. It was wonderful.

This bit has made all my dreams come true...

Mark Hamill said:

I rightly assumed that it wouldn’t be our story, because we had a beginning, a middle, and an end. This must be our offspring and the current generation, with us there lending the kind of support that Peter Cushing and Alec Guinness did in the original.

...this new film is gonna be awesome. It's a done deal!

Star Wars Day (UK) - Screenings of OT
Time

Damn it! I knew there was a reason why I shouldn't have left London LOL

The extra goodies and guest appearances sound excellent. I'm really gonna miss the Star Wars cocktails mentioned. A 'Blue Caracua White Russian' perhaps?

Good on the BFI for clearly labelling these as the SEs on the ticket ordering page. Assuming it's in NFT1 then that's a nice big screen with an excellent soundsytem.

Are you saying both Rocket screenshots are from UK sets?

Which ones? The two from the previous page? As far as I'm told, the top is from the US2D disc that came packaged with the US3D/2D set. The bottom is from my own UK2D standalone disc (The UK packaged 2D release is identical btw).

Can you even do a 2D screencapture from a 3D Blu-Ray? Not having any experience of home3D I don't know.

Revisionism is becoming a complete norm - I've just been watching the Hobbit TDoS EE BD extras and they said that in the DVD and BD release of the first Hobbit, they re-did some shots of Smaug in the prologue to match the TDoS version of him.

I agree that revisionism is unfortunately becoming commonplace, but FWIW I usually don't mind when the creator(s) of a work revise it in some minor way only a short time post-release. (Yes, this means I don't mind the '81 crawl.)

I also don't mind such changes/fixes when it's to correct unintended errors a year after release (And when we'd barely notice the change).

They tried to show as little of Smaug as possible in the prologue but they hadn't finished designing him by that point. They eventually went for no front legs in DOS but the AUJ Smaug has front legs. So why not remove them in the EE. Better than keeping the error, or going with a consistent design for Smaug that they didn't like.

Now going back 10, 20, 30 years later and changing things that didn't need changing is another kettle of fish (However, I actually would welcome FOTR Gollum being redone by Andy Serkis, so call me a massive hypocrite if you like LOL).

In a similar way, I wouldn't mind a stunning new transfer of the OT that corrected a few flaws Adywan style but stayed true to the original print in spirit. Having the original untouched version as well would of course be preferrable.

So have we compared the UK 3D with the UK 2D? I think we may have some kind of international screw-up.

I don't have a 3D setup so no. That disc from my GOTG set is just a handy place to rest my coffee cup ;-)

I'm hoping another European country has a better 2D transfer but I'd only find that out by randomly ordering them and comparing.

So was this a false alarm? I'm not seeing anything about in the usual places, and it would be nice to know before I buy the darn thing.

I can only speak for both versions of the UK release but they don't look as good as I'd like. Blu-Ray.com pretty much gives the video quality a pass despite posting this screen shot alongside the review...

...which has the darker teal areas distorting all over the place. Maybe the US 2D/3D combo pack is better, as has been suggested but I wouldn't know.

BBC interview with Comedian Phill Jupitus about his views on the new Star Wars Film/Teaser/Prequels. This bit was interesting and encouraging to hear...

"I met an effects bloke in Essex, he drinks in my local coffee shop. He said [the makers of the new film] bought every gas-bottled air gun in England when they arrived because they wanted the Stormtroopers' guns to have a kick when they fired them. You don't have to fake it; it looks real"

I am guessing Die another Day is your favorite Bond film.

From a few posts above...

22. Die Another Day

As I already said... If you love Skyfall then great, most people do. I'm in the minority that thought it was a low point and think another Director might fair better with what might be Craig's (Who is an excellent Bond btw) last. That's okay too.

So...

all gadgets have to look the same

have to be straight out of a star Trek movie

all action films have to look bad

be nothing but one long shaky cam shot

I don't ever recall ever saying any of those four things ever anywhere on this site ever but maybe you can quote the part where I did.

DrCrowTStarwars said:

Look I don't think Bond films will ever be to your taste so why don't you just go and watch the Transformers movies instead, they seem to be more your style.

Hmmm maybe?... *Glances over at DVD/Blu-Ray shelf which is straining under the weight of Bond movies and is startled to notice it contains no Michael Bay movies*

DrCrowTStarwars said:

you do know that jetpack was only in one movie, so is Thunderball the only good bond film because most of the bond films do not feature gadgets that are so out there.

Funnily enough I did know that and most of the Bond movies contain gadgets waaaay more "out there" than a real-world JetPack.

DrCrowTStarwars said:

you do know that the directors but in the day were trying to make the films look as good as they could on budget too, right?

No idea what you are trying to say?

DrCrowTStarwars said:

it would have to become something it is not to have an appeal for you

Nope. It would would have to become something it was to appeal to me.

DrCrowTStarwars said:

Take a look at the gadgets Bond had in the 60s and tell me the design and function of that radio doesn't fit right in.

Yes but we're not in the 60s. Maybe in the 60s, audiences would have "lost their sh*t" over a miniature pocket radio thing (but I doubt it). Anyway, the radio in Skyfall was supposed to be cra*p, that was the joke. But after the laughter has died away Bond's still got a cr*p Radio for the rest of the movie... instead of I don't know... an Aston Martin V8 that fires Stinger Missles and everybody loves.

By the way... I don't like 'Skyfall', but I'm not saying it's not okay for you to like it. I think the lists so far on this page have shown a lot of difference in taste.
