Episode VII: The Force Awakens - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD *

Just a thought but...

for anybody that was complaining that the spinning camera on the awesome Falcon shot from the teaser was not like the OT...

should really rewatch the amazeballs shot of the Falcon swooping into the Death Star in ROTJ (The best SFX shot ever IMO). If anything, JJ's new shot has the camera more stable and fixed than the 1983 shot.

For anyboy wanting a quick refresher it's about 5 minutes into this clip...

http://youtu.be/xPZigWFyK2o?t=4m58s

After this ^, the "not-teal-tint-afterall" and the "Oh, the ball droid is practical". I just need a reason why the broadsaber is like the OT and I'll be 100% happy with the teaser LOL

Looks like the latest video for the UNICEF is online and it reveals a noticeably older Chewie! Unlike that image a while back we thought he'd look like (in there I didn't think he was "aged" enough), here his eyes look aged with more white around on his face, just like how an older dog would show age - I think he looks perfect now.

http://www.slashfilm.com/j-j-abrams-thanks-star-wars-force-awakens-set/

Please, please, please tell me there's someone here collecting all of this stuff: the teaser trailer (in HD); the UNICEF videos; the appearance on John Oliver; the leaked concept art.

If not, then can we get something going?

I'm collecting all the official-build-up-videos myself. The J.J teaser bits and bobs. Not sure if I'll both holding onto little bits like R2 getting hit with a Salmon though.

BTW: Does anybody know who this guy is...?

It's just that he's got the black unitard, the black eyeliner and coincidentally has the same Surrey accent and deep voice as Peter Mayhew. Makes me think he is the Chewie body-double.

...and IMO that costume actually looked like Chewie. Thank goodness!

So is the TFA teaser only playing at iMAX showings of The Hobbit?

Because I didn't see it in front of the regular 2D showing I went to the other day. Mind you I maybe missed it as I got half way into the trailer/advert/messages due to a cinema ticketing screw up. If it's at all Hobbit screenings I might have to go see it again and this time get there waaay early.

That's the chorus of one of my fav songs...

Nas - Life's A Bitch

But in that case it's all about how precious life is. e.g.

"I switched my motto - instead of sayin f**k tomorrow
That buck that bought a bottle could've struck the lotto"

Maybe listening to it will cheer you up. And if you want another positive rap, this one ALWAYS cheers me up...

Provided this is like The Killing Joke where the original is still easily available in a different edition down the line

Yeah that was a great recolour IMHO.

It doesn't always suit the material though. That sample that is posted above does not look good. Recolouring Vader to be all shiny doesn't really work to add glamour, when he's poorly drawn in the first place (The details are all wrong). The original "cheap" and gritty colours work better with the original inks. Also the original features a careful and striking colour compositionwhich is totally gone in the recolouring. All visual contrast is erased. The SE indeed.

btw I much prefer the original version of that Boba cover. The original is waaay more striking and less bland.

I'm color blind

^ There is your answer dude ;-)

But seriously, the red is a little less saturated than I remember in that YouTube clip but it was never that bright to begin with. Probably a YouTube encoding thing as you say.

Additional: Shot from Blu-Ray.com...

Back in the day, I saw it in RE class on VHS too and remember the red being a touch stronger. Perhaps it was boosted a tad for the VHS release to compensate for the loss in "resolution"? Because in most shots she is just a dot in the distance.

Of course none of them were ordinary in the end, but they all had fairly mundane origins, Leia being the notable exception. Even she, however, was easy to relate to because she seemed normal, as if she had had a normal upbringing and had just happened to be a princess.

Now, if we contrast Leia with Padmé, there's a marked difference.

Which is odd considering that while Padme was only elected queen for a short period of time during her late teens, Leia had been raised as royalty right from infancy.

I'd maybe disagree with this perspective on Leia.

Leia swaggers round in ANH with a huge sense of Royal entitlement "Will someone get this big walking carpet out of my way?" (Not, get out of my way, but asking will somebody else do it for me!) and Han's sarcastic "Maybe you'd like it back in your cell, your Highness" is a reaction to that attitude. General Kenobi is the only character she shows any defrence to, perhaps because he fought alongside her father, giving him the same status in society in her eyes.

Now, because right from the get go we see she is a fearless freedom fighter risking her life and position for the rebellion we love her. But if she was just a Princess to be rescued, I think she'd come off quite badly. There'd only be a whisker between her and Princess Vespa.

But what a lot of people don't seem to realize is that 3d copies are almost ALWAYS a bit brighter in order to compensate for the fact that 3d glasses have a slight tint to them. You can't compare a raw 3d screenshot to a 2d screenshot. To make the comparison fair, you'd need to send the 3d shot through a filter equivalent to viewing it through the 3d glasses. And I'd be willing to bet that if you do that, they will look awfully similar.

All I can say is, I saw GOTG several times at the cinema in 2D and 3D and as soon as I played the 2DBR I knew it wasn't right (As I said much earlier in the thread). The 3D rip I've just done looks more like the film I saw (It still doesn't look as good as I remember though). Everyone else can make up their own minds.

The green tint isn't horrendous I agree but it is there. However as I've previously posted, the darkness of the 2D image that is a real problem too.

Okay here we go (I've captured mostly stuff I've shown earlier in the thread)...

^ Yep the green tint is gone and zero in on Rocket's right-eye (His right) to see the under exposure.

^ The Underexposure is dramaticlly obvious in this shot. Also the wierdly crushed teal shadows are much less bad. They are still a little odd in the bottom right corner though.

^ Granted this is supposed to be a dark shot but on the 3D capture the detail runs right into the darkest shadows (It's all gone in the dark 2D transfer). Also yay iMAX!

^ Lastly, the dark image is interfering with the story IMO. I can barely make out the emotion on Rocket's face. However the 3D transfer frequently has a black bar down the left hand side in the non-iMAX shots.

FYI: Click images ^ to see in full HD. I ripped both with DVDFab and captured a shots with VLC. Also these might not be the exact same frame but I tried.

There is however this option for owners of the 3D BD:

" The way 3D BD versions work now is that they are all 2D m2ts files with an extra folder for 3D info that the Blu-ray player will utilize when the 3D mode has been selected/activated. However on the 3D BD the 2D m2ts file comes with the two different aspect ratios. So all you have to really do is turn that file and only that file into an mkv file and you should have your GOTG 2D IMAX BDRX. My 2D IMAX remux came to over 28 gigs btw and looks fantastic! " (And it will look like the 3D picture above)

It's on! Cheers. Ripping 3DBD onto my drive now. Fingers crossed this works :-)

Compare the MD5 with stretch009 and then share it!

I already have the UK-2DBD ripped to my disc, so if it works I will compare the two and post here (These discs have some advanced ninja copyprotection software so it might not work though).

Well I doubt they are really aware of it, like I said I don't get "Drunk", I just have one or two and it really doesn't affect my performance at all.

If it's as you described above, I promise you they are aware of it but are doubtless too polite to say anything so far. Do something about it yourself before they can't turn a blind eye anymore.

Can you call a guy who never gets drunk bit is ALWAYS buzzed an alcoholic? Can you call a guy who never does drugs but is never NOT smoking weed a drug addict? I don't know the answers to that

My simple advice would be to give both of them up for a month.

If you find you can't, then seek professional help. If you can give them up, then you'll feel better after the month and your head will be clear to decide how much of both you want to continue using in future.

In my personnal opinion though, if you are drinking during the work day, you've got a problem. I suspect your work colleagues are aware of it already stop before they have to say something and you lose your job. I've had a couple of people turn up drunk who've worked under me. They were fired on the spot. It wasn't pleasant for me and would have been hell for them.

Good luck.
