Anyone else miss grit in movies and TV shows?
Time

Grit is out there on TV and Film. It's like in any era, you just have to look for it...

...the past might seem better just because most of the old garbage films and TV have been rightly forgotten and only the gems remain in the popular consciousness. Do you remember gritty and realistic TV shows from the past such as these super hits...

But generally speaking, I agree that at least a touch of realism is essential. I find the not-a-hair-out-of-place (If it's not a wig) look of the SW prequels distracting as hell.

^^ I wonder how much my post from the Doctor Who thread last year inspired Tobar while working on that observation ;-)

Only joking, I'm sure everybody who watched that episode would spot the inspiration. btw, it's well worth checking out episodes of Pre-1977/Pre-Star-Wars Doctor Who to spot similarities like this... plus loads of the SW cast appear in the show.

I might have asked in the Doctor Who thread already? But,

Does anyone know of GL ever saying he used to regularly watch Doctor Who?

Spielberg did (Amblin was in negotions to make a DW movie in the mid-90s).

The new trailer for Matthew Vaughn's 'Kingsman: The Secret Service' was in front of 'Foxcatcher' and it featured Mark Hamill. I was 100% gonna see the movie anyway but catching up with Mark will be a nice added bonus.

Also the trailer featured a funny intro from Sam Jackson...

Mark is in a few shots from around 2 minutes in.

Flaws, plotholes, and "could-have-been-done-betters" in the OT (alternate plot points especially welcome)

But that doesn't explain why would the imperial fleet move towards the Death Star too, specially bigger ships like the Executor.

Why wouldn't they?

The only think that matters for the Rebels is blowing up the Death Star, not the battle itself. The best way to achieve the destruction of the DS is to move all your forces as close as possible to where the Fighters are trying to accomplish that mission and taking the flak off them (Literally). The Imperials would have to move off after them to continue the battle and protect the Death Star.

So again, why wouldn't they?

Just wanted to drop this wiki quote in here...

"A plot hole is a gap or inconsistency in a storyline that creates a paradox in the story that cannot be reconciled with any explanation. These include such things as illogical or impossible events, and statements or events that contradict earlier events in the storyline"

...so we can clear away some of the proverbial wheat from the proverbial chaff in this debate.

For example...

Another rare thing: what's the hole where the rebel fighters infiltrate the Death Star? That whole hole in the middle of the surface. What's its purpose?

...is something that isn't explained because it doesn't require explanation. Not something that "cannot be reconciled with any explanation". So it's not a plothole... or even a flaw either, although it could possibly fall into the category "could-have-been-done-better" on some abstract level.

STAR WARS: REBELS (animated tv series) - a general discussion thread
Time

Lando was good wasn't he. They made him all sleazy and duplicitous like a pre-joining-the-rebels scoundrel would be :-)

I warmed to Hera a little more in this last episode, she was far less annoying on her own. It's the rellentless smart-aleck attitude she gives the rest of the crew I don't quite enjoy.

Azmorigan's ship was cool. It looked as if the guy who built Jabba's sail-barge was made to construct a replica of The Moldy Crow from memory ;-)
