The Movies You Would Like To See Made (Not SW)
Time

A movie about the time frame in WWII when Britain was fighting Germany alone.

Not sure I can help with the rest on that list but there are a few fantastic movies about that ^ subject...

Battle of Britain (1969) classic dogfighting which must have influenced the trench run in SW, from James Bond Director Guy Hamilton

Fires Were Started (1943) powerful contemporary docu-drama about Blitz-Firefighters by Humphrey Jennings

Hope and Glory (1987) absolute masterpiece about growing up amongst the rubble of London by the legendary John Boorman

One of Our Aircraft is Missing (1942) Rewatched this just the other day on an HD-TV broadcast. Magnificent early film from Powell and Pressburger about a downed Wellington Bomber crew trying to get home with the help of the Dutch resistance. Also it being a contemporary movie adds weight to the emotions.

Yeah I am not sure what he said that is racist.

If I remember the "Final warning" Clarkson was under before yesterday was due to footage coming to light of Clarkson saying "N***er". It sounded pretty rascist to me, although I'd be prepared to say it was a slip of the tongue. But the weight of all the other sexist, mildy-rascist, disabilist and homophobic stuff he's said over the years leading up to it, didn't put it in a good light.

Plus recently nearly getting his film crew killed in Argentina and calling a Thai man a "Slope" for comic effect haven't endeared him to me any further. Also James May making a recent car documentary where he seemed to be ranting on about commies and hippies every 5 minutes made him sound rather unpleasant too.

So if after all that you go around punching TV producers, a suspension is on the cards.

Personally I see no problem with cutting the shot altogether.

1) If there is an internal shot of just Chewy in his seat looking out the window, perhaps you might be able to replace the external matting

It's borderline too quick even with the shot in IMO.

Using a chewie shot the way you suggest had crossed my mind, but from memory I'm not sure there is such a shot?

I enjoy Fawlty Towers and Blackadder a lot more than anything more recent that I have seen from across the pond. Maybe I'm just watching the wrong shows?

Those shows are pretty much perfect but there is still some strong stuff about if you want a crib sheet...

Limmy's Show

It's a pretty damn wierd sketch show. You'll either hate it, or think he's a genius (I'm closer to the latter opinion). All 3 series seem to be up on YouTube. Which is fair enough for series 3, as the BBC haven't bothered to put it out on DVD. Booooo!

Stewart Lee's Comedy Vehicle

Currently, on to the third series of this standup showcase of Lee's unique voice. A few are on YouTube. Witness him spend a whole show talking about crisps potato chips, have an imaginary phonecall about a fictional manure business, or talk at length about a vinyl record he's never listened to.

Father Ted

It's not that new (From the 90s) but for me it's the only thing that would be in the top5 with those classic 70s shows. About 3 Catholic priests living on a god-forsaken island off the Irish coast. It's got it's own annual festival people love it so much. There isn't much on YouTube.

Early Doors

Beautifully written sitcom about the slightly pathetic people who frequent a pub in Manchester. It's only set in two or three rooms and the first series featured James McAvoy (No relation LOL) before he became Professor X. Quite a bit on YouTube.

There is loads of other stuff, but that's a few of the best.

Latest updated version of the Tatooine intro...

https://vimeo.com/121608155

(Password: fanedit.org)

For this test, I've made another animated matte shot showing Luke and Treadwell from a distance. I had to blend several desert shots to get a shot that matched the closer deleted scene shot seemlessly. The sky moves, there is dust blowing across the desert and if you watch very, very closely Treadwell is crawling along too. It's best viewed in fullscreen HD on the Vimeo site.

On another subject and part of the edit, I either need to use part of this shot...

...or create something to replace it (I'd prefer the latter). But I'm struggling to think how with my limited FX skills. Any ideas? FYI: In my edit it currently goes...

1. Shot of Han shouting "Chewie get us outta here!"
2. Shot of Chewie starting the engines
3. SE shot of The Falcon lifting off
4. Original shot of Troopers watching the Falcon flying off

Chappie is amazing!

Sure superficially it shares some DNA with Short Circuit and RoboCop but in a larger sense, it's unlike any film I've seen before. It often gets cerebral, it often tugs at the heart strings and it's often laugh-out-loud funny (The cinema I was in was rolling in the isles) but all the while barrelling along narratively and thrilling with the Sci-Fi action. It's just your typical crazy coming-of-age, horror, action, comedy, sci-fi, social-drama, philosophical comedy.

The FX are totally realistic, the prop, costume and general world design is stunning. The score by Hans Zimmer has a great Vangelis and John Carpenter feel. While the music selections on the Soundtrack are so catchy, provided by South African Rave/Hip-Hop duo 'Die Antwoord' (Who star in the film). They are my new favourite thing!

Die Antwoord - Enter The Ninja (Considering this video has 26 million views, I guess I'm late to that party LOL)

Die Antwoord - Fatty Boom Boom

Die Antwoord - Cookie Thumper

(Pretty sure those were 3 of the tracks in the film, if memory serves)

But 'Chappie' is currently running at 31% on Rotten Tomatoes, so what do I know?

It would be really disappointing if Luke had less than 5 minutes of screen time.  Seems like a lot of fans are looking forward to his return.  I guess we all assumed he would take a Kenobi type of role.

It would feel like a rip off, especially after all this secrecy.

It's what I'm hoping for and expecting.

Hamill himself has stated that they are just there to pass the baton on to the youngsters. Also all the official promotional material has been about the new sh*t, even if the un-official online buzz has been about the OT crew's return.

So I wouldn't feel mislead if they were just beefed up cameos.

The pan down from the scroll is part of what I love about it.  It almost takes you by surprise, since we're all familiar with the original opening, and might expect the same thing.

Glad you're back to working on this, and I hope you don't mind my constant badgering ;)

Interesting thought about the scroll down creating expectation and then surprise. I'll look into the possibilities of incorporating a pan down into the new version... and your feedback is great.

Tatooine animated matte Painting...

https://vimeo.com/121502312

This has turned out just how I wanted it . I'll only be using 2 seconds of the shot in the edit though (btw, It's the Tattoine from Wookieepedia and it's moons from the original matte shot).

Well it's only been 6-months since I last did any work on this but I've been thinking about this project every day, mostly while I've been driving round listening to ClassicFm and mentally rescoring different scenes.

I like to get the opening of any edit "locked" before I feel ready to move on to other parts so I'm looking to get that perfected before anything else. Here is a very rough test of my idea for the bridge between the crawl and the first scene with Luke...

https://vimeo.com/121298479

(Password: fanedit.org)

Hopefully that conveys the idea I'm working towards. 3 or 4 smash-zooms timed with the music, but I need to create several animated matte-paintings to replace these temp ones. If anybody can link me to appropriate artwork of Tatooine from several distances that would help a lot.

I would gladly pay a (small) fee to have a tv channel broadcasting Top Gear 24/7. Simply can't get enough of the bastards. :)

Top Gear is broadcast 24 hours a day in the UK already, for free, wether you want it or not.

I'm going to go out on a limb, here, and make a wild guess: you're not partial to Clarkson, are you?

It's not just Clarkson. I loath all 3 of them with a passion I can barely express.
