Star Wars: Episode VII to be directed by J.J. Abrams **NON SPOILER THREAD**
Time

Is anybody that worked on 'Elysium' working on EpVII 'cause that film looks stunning!

Went to see it earlier today and it might just be the most realistic CGI I've ever seen. I couldn't begin to say where the practical sets, models and locations ended and the FX began. Cinematography is beautiful, story is thought provoking and Jodie Foster is a wonderfully scary villian. Best Sci-Fi flick in years.

If the PT Battledroids had been like the Nazi-Police robots in Elysium, it wouldn't have taken Order 66 to finish the Jedi off.

Great blend of practical work and CGI = Realism

Hope all the rumours are true and this is the way the ST will be shot.

Episode IV: A Ridiculous Hope

Greedo should be called Gringo.

I have confidence in Frink's skillz.

Yes! Han calls him Gringo and he has Eli Wallach's Tuco voice from 'Good The Bad and the Ugly'...

GRINGO: Hey, Blond!

HAN: Yes, Gringo. As a matter of fact, I was just going to see your
boss. Tell Jabba that I've got his money.

Han sits down and the alien sits across from him holding
    the gun on him.

GRINGO: If you save your breath I feel a man like you can manage it. And if you don't manage it, you'll die. Only slowly, very slowly old friend.

HAN: Yeah, but this time I got the money.

GRINGO:  Hey! Hey everybody look! He's giving him the filthy money!

HAN: I don't have it with me. Tell Jabba...

GRINGO: I like big fat men like you. When they fall they make more noise. And sometimes they don't get up.

HAN: Even I get boarded sometimes. Do you think I had a choice?

Han Solo slowly reaches for his gun under the table.

GRINGO: if you miss you had better miss very well. Whoever double-crosses me and leaves me alive, he understands nothing about Gringo. Nothing!

HAN: Over my dead body.

GRINGO:  When you have to shoot, shoot. Don't talk.

HAN: Yes, I'll bet you have.

Suddenly the slimy alien disappears in a blinding flash of
light. Han pulls his smoking gun from beneath the table as the
other patron look on in bemused amazement. Han gets up and
starts out of the cantina, flipping the bartender some coins
    as he leaves.

HAN: Sorry about the mess.

EXTERIOR: SPACE.

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Episode VII is officially being shot on 35mm film.

http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/08/23/star-wars-episode-vii-will-be-shot-on-35mm-film

It's being shot on film similar to what was used in the OT.

Kodak 500T 5219 tests:

This also makes my 35mm PT preservation work all the more important to finsih it and get it right.

So excited right now!

JJ will you marry me! ;-)

To me, hearing/seeing the Dreamworks logo says...

"Congratulations you've just paid to see a movie that you were hoping would be really good but which will only mildly disappoint you"

;-)

Where as the Fox Fanfare always comes with the feint suggestion that you may (Despite your brain telling you that it won't) be about to watch a movie with Lightsabers and Pulse Rifles in it ;-)

Gee whiz, this one is really taking a long time (assuming I understand correctly and it isn't done yet)! I thought it was supposed to be released in April of last year...

What's taking so long? The first one was awesome, and I really want to see this one and ROTJ:R.

There were a number of personal setbacks.  It is now scheduled for the last quarter of 2013.

I hope you don't mind waiting a while for the next one, as Adywan will be working on RotJ:R, ANH: R HD, and all the prequels at the same time.  But, assuming what he has planned is viable, it should be worth the wait  :)

Are there any recent articles or blog posts telling the history of the ups and down, the lefts, the rights etc of this magnificent project?

I've been following it for about a year and while I'm super excited by ESB:R, I don't fancy reading back through 28 thousand posts on this forum to find out what happened before ;-)

The YouTube trailer for example is dated 20th May 2009 and the recent talk about Angel was news to me... so there's obviously been alot of developments in those years. So anybody care to fill in the johnny-come-latelys like myself and others?

I would think the current iteration of the Lucasfilm Ltd. logo would be in there.

And Disney occasionally tweaks their logo for certain films, like Tron Legacy.

I know, I was just creating a worse case scenario really (Although it's a scenario that would be unsurprising). In all probability the Lucasfilm logo will be last before "A long time ag...".

The option I'd like best would be the fox fanfare played over the Disney castle logo (Unlikely but possible). It would have exactly the same feeling for me, as I don't consider the modern Fox logo to be SW either. But oldskool painted Fox, then oldskool Green Lucasfilm logo would be just a fantasy ;-)

But to be fair, if Disney make EpisodeVII better than the OT then from that point on I'll consider whatever combination of sound and visuals they used as the way SW should start lol.

I know it's tempting to say that because the PT sucked, then the ST is quite likely to suck too.

But I don't buy that, the PT was a perfect storm of awfulness on every creative level. It's just not possible to be that bad again. The only thing the PT pulled off with style was in creating a roadmap for future filmmakers like JJ showing them how NOT to make a Star Wars film. I think the whole film world has learnt from that chapter in history and will do everything it can to see it is never repeated.

STAR WARS: points of origin - fan documentary (* unfinished project *)
Time

As is said above, take your lumps and bumps and move on, don't let anyone stop you. If it's something you still believe in, go right ahead with your project. But in future if you want your project received with more warmth... instead of making your first post like this:

cain spaans said:

STAR WARS: behind the eye is a new fan documentary that I want to make that will end all the other fan documentary's such as deleted magic building empire and returning to jedi this is one out of three documentary's containing footage from official documentary's deleted scenes and other material

...I'd suggest something more like this...

cain spaans (Could have) said:

'STAR WARS: BEHIND THE EYE' is a new fan documentary that I want to make.

The fantastic work by editors such as Jamie Benning on projects like 'Building empire' and 'Returning To Jedi' has inspired me to do something similar. This edit will be incorporating some of the latest footage not available when those projects were compiled and where possible will be in glorious HD!

This will be the first FanEdit I've attempted so I'd appreciate everyone's advice on what is the best software to use. Also if you can suggest footage and ideas that would be fantastic!

More deatils to follow Star Wars fans!

Sounds better right? Some basic formatting would've hepled for a start, rather than a spew of lowercase words. Either that or hire a PR management team ;-)

Emanswfan's Prequel Trilogy (Ep II Opening Clips Now Available)
Time

This ^ is very exciting work! Not just switching up a couple of scenes but skillfully weaving seemingly disperate elements together in a bold new and cohesive way. Awesome job. Even in this rough demonstration I can see how everything is going to flow beautifully. You've got me hooked on this project now.

Couple of points...

The suitcase scene ranks as one of the worst in AOTC (Stiff competion I know) so I perhaps wouldn't open with it. However it's mericifully brief in your edit. There is nothing that can't be covered in the crawl. The next scene in the Theed palace has more of a spark.

You could also open with Obi-Wan listening in on Dooku's plan, then cut to Padme talking with the Queen on Naboo. Just an option.

After the geonosis opening are you going to move to the assassination/bombing on Coruscant? and is Padme going to be pro-army in this edit? You could recut this scene to have her proposing an Army after witnessing what Dooku is up to on Geonosis...

YouTube/Vimeo/etc... Star Wars video finds
Time

This 35 minute condensing of all the Han, Luke, Leia etc footage from the SW Holiday Special got posted on one of my SW threads on http://www.fanedit.org. All of the singin, dancing, cooking etc has be trimmed nicely.

By a guy/girl called 'stomachworm'. If you've never made it through the 2 hour car crash that was that show, then this is the way to view it. I would use the phrase "All of the killer, none of the filler" but as Alan Partridge once said "That would be bullsh*t". There is no killer in the SW Holiday Special.

Oh nice thanks, I was right about the title card lol. Maybe it was ESB or ROTJ that had the white border? I was indeed in the Granada region.

I don't remember any of those adverts though. Either my VHS was taped from a different broadcast or perhaps my Dad/Older-Brother didn't record the adverts.

I fondly remember the ITV title cards before and after the adds from my home VHS. Anybody got screengrabs just for nostalgia's sake?

I seem to remember it was this image...

...with possibly a white bar down the left handside with the old ITV logo and text. But my memory could be playing tricks.

Would be amazing to get a download of an old VHS. Then it could be recreated adverts-and-all from a nice higher-definition source like Harmy's but cropped to 4:3 and pan and scanned. Would be a sepia tinged treat.

Wonder what the adverts were... probably Nescafe, Castlemaine XXXX, Tunes and Milk Tray lol

Speaking of Tunes, heres a SW ad spoof from the mid 90s (I believe)...
