I can't exactly remember how I last got 'Blade Runner' to install. My old CDs point blank refused to install. Think I downloaded a hooky pre-installed copy onto my hardrive and it read my disc from there.

Still has 3 bugs after that. The shooting range doesn't work and the bomb and deadly rat instant kill you if you don't install a patch. Apart from that the game works perfectly on modern PCs... it's the installing that's the tricky part. I'm never uninstalling it ever again!

I've just iced Zuben and I'm onto chapter two now. I'm off for one drink at The China Bar in Animoid Row...

^ "Just one?!?"

"One... but one good one"

Think it's time to replay this masterpiece again...

Haven't played it all year. I need to decide what philosophy I'm going to play through with before I start.

Think I might go with cold hard merciless Blade Runner. I remember it being the hardest way to play, since it is dependant on keeping Crystal Steele on your side, which can be tricky.

^ Crystal's got the magic, have you?

Without watching the scene of the chamber where his helmet is put back on theres a good excuse for a pressurised air sound effect or some enhancement to when the helmet is fixed back on to vader.

Without watching it i don't recall any sound effect when the helmet is put back on in the chamber

There's already an excellent pressurizing sound effect. It's been making my head hurt since 1980. Sounds like it would suck your eyes out!

^That!

one of the best sound effects in the whole saga ;-)

always gives me the goose bumps ...

Also, Shadows of the Empire N64. The first (and only) N64 game I've ever owned

J*SUS F*CKING CHR*ST!?!?!

You've got an N64 and haven't got 'Goldeneye'? If I still had an N64 I'd be playing that game 24-7.

Yeah, I just got the N64 a few days ago. I'm not exactly experienced with it yet.

Lucky you!

Buy...

Goldeneye

Mario Kart

Episode 1: Racer

...in that order and you won't regret it.

Leia has her own reasons to be repelled by the notion that her hero/brother is related to the thing that killed her homeworld (the glossing over her reaction to her being his daughter is a giant misstep in this film).

The fact that Alderaan is never mentioned again, and especially not during this key scene always bothered me.

Dammit, you're right. Unfortunately ROTJ is a movie that I dislike more and more every time I watch it, which really hurts considering how much nostalgia I have towards it. The sheer amount of wasted potential is enough for it to be easily the least of the three. The fact that ANH and ESB still hold up to my childhood adoration (and then some) every time I watch is what seals the deal.

amen! Im very fond of ROTJ, but I just feel that Luca$'s attitude for this one was: "This is the last one, lets just throw everything together and get it done chop-chop!" I agree that there was some wasted potential.

I would argue that the exact oposit id possibly true. The way the whole trilogy comes to a climatic, neat and beautifully written conclusion is vastly underestimated.

It could have been very different...

Consider a film like TDKR that while generally good, doesn't wrap up that trilogy very well at all. Batman dies but then doesn't die to keep things open for a sequel. A new Robin character is introduced solely for a sequel setup. Batman does not defeat any of the four antagonists. There is no redemption, no real love story of any consequence etc etc

Or consider BTTF3 (A film I love!!) but that doesn't wrap the story up at all. A brilliant film happens and then there is an emotional scene at the end.

And I've already pointed out elsewhere what a collasal waste of the final chapter of the Spock Trilogy Star Trek 4 is.

ROTJ is a great ending to the OT. In a way it defines the OT because looking back all paths lead to it. It could have just been another film...

Absolutely agree about Vertigo being far better than The Birds. I actually didn't think much of Hitchcock until I saw Vertigo.

The Birds, isn't a patch on the source material and the awful special effects really spoil it for me.

Vertigo is a masterpiece.

Frenzy has all the looks of of Sweeney The Movie (1977) but lacks the quality.

'Vertigo' is good but I was always more into 'Rear Window', 'Rope', 'North By Northwest' and a few others. It might not even be in my top 5 Hitchcock.

'Birds' never really grabbed me because I didn't care about the characters. But I thought the Birds were scary because of the sound rather than the visuals. The fictionalised drama about the filming of it, is better than the actual film IMO.

On the subject of violece in films...

'Frenzy' is very disturbing but it seemed intentionally so to me. A POV shot halfway through where you see through the eyes of the murderer as he's strangling a woman is really horrible. Not a film to be enjoyed, but not a badly made film if you can stomach it.

But I wouldn't recommend 2010's 'The Killer Inside Me' to anyone, as it left me shocked and upset. Seriously the violence in that has stayed with me, burned on my retina. I'm generally against censorship so I've no problem with the film existing, but I wouldn't watch it again if you paid me.

However the film that reviled me the most in my life was 2002's 'The Magdalene Sisters'. I actually felt physically sick watching it but it's a superbly made film based on true history. Again I wouldn't really want to see that again but I would recommend it to others because of the social and historical lessons.

Which Star Wars movie has the best message? In my opinion, the central messages are thus:

The first one has the message that if you use your innate talents, you can singlehandedly defeat Empires. "Use the Force, Luke."

Empire states that in order to do something, you must commit yourself completely to its completion, forsaking even your friends, instead of simply "giving it a shot". "Do. Or do not. There is no try."

Jedi communicates the idea that a you are great not only because of what you have done and what you are, but because of what others have allowed you to do, and to be. "I am a Jedi, like my father before me."

So to me, the message of the first movie is rather unrealistic. It is Luke alone who destroys the Death Star, and this point is made by having everyone abandon him in his final test, except for Obi-wan, though it is implied that in the end, Luke uses the Force without Obi-wan's help. Empire as well has the message that to accomplish your dreams, you must abandon your friends and strike out on your own. It is Jedi that provides the message that all people, no matter how humble or broken, can help in toppling empires, and it is this message that I think is the most important of all.

So on the basis of message, Return of the Jedi is the best Star Wars film.

Crowd rises to it's feet with loud applause

STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW

A thing I'd love to see would be a full length side-by-side comparison of ESB:R and an edit of the visually unaltered Blu-Ray like Adywan does in the brief comparison clips.

If Adywan didn't want to do this I'm sure someone would make one (I would for one) but a seemlessly synched version would be easier to render from the original source. A perfectly synched frame-by-frame version would be much more difficult for a third party to achieve.

I think it would be a fascinating viewing experience showcasing all the wonderful work on this project.

I also sank quite a lot of time into Episode I Racer when I was a lad. I cheated so much in that game, though, back when I was into not having a challenge. I picked it up again a couple years back during my "break-out-the-N64-and-beat-all-my-games-again" streak and got stuck on Racer. Those duo-level races in the Cloud City levels always kicked my ass, but it was still a blast with a huge variety of racers.

God yes that two tiered track in the clouds gave me post truamatic stress disorder. You had to do 3 perfect laps just to beat it, not to get a great lap time, just to beat it... on a track barely wider than your pod. If you fell through to the 2nd tier on the third lap it was mental breakdown time ;-)
