The Six Wishes Thread
Time

1. An infinite supply of Sharwood's Green Label Mango Chutney (And accompanying supply of fluffy Basmati rice).

2. To find that the original perfectly preserved film elements for the lost director's cut of 'The Magnificent Ambersons' was tucked down the back of my sofa all along.

3. To have a magic block button that allows me to not only block rascist, homophobic, anti-semetic and sexist people from commenting on YouTube but that it would also allow me to block them from accessing the internet all together.

4. The death penalty to be abolished worldwide*.

5. *The death penalty to be mandatory for people who drop litter or talk in the Cinema.

6. All supermarkets to stock Sarsaparilla cordial by law... not just a few of the bigger Sainsburys.

Sensible policies for a happy world!

Tyrannosaur

Meant to see it for ages but finally caught it at a charity Q&A with star Olivia Colman. Blown away. It's bleak, dark, disturbing and violent but there is also so much light, humour and hope. I almost blubbed when one of the characters was singing The Pogues at a wake.

Peter Mullan's character was a breath of fresh air because he had so many unlikeable qualities but the film lets you see into his heart and you do end up feeling for him. Olivia Colman should've got a best actress nod at the Baftas IMO.

Superb writing and directing from Paddy Considine with every detail of the characters lives and surroundings having been thought about. It's the kind of film that I can see being a totally different experience on the second viewing. Something I plan on doing again soon.

I still can't think of a good reason why there couldn't have been at least one physical clone trooper costume made for the prequels.

Arrogance and just not giving a sh*t.

'Arrogance' because they proudly proclaim that you can't tell the difference on the commentary. Plus 'Not giving a sh*t' because deep down they knew that then they'd have to bother matching the look of the physical prop to the CGI fakery.

Same reason I believe R2 is matt in ROTS so they didn't have to bother doing time consuming reflections. Probably one of the reasons behind why Threepio in the PT was kept from being polished gold until his last scenes during ROTS.

There is now a similar debate over whether motion capture actors like Andy Serkis deserve such recognition.

Yes, he should of at least been given a nomination from the Baftas/Oscars for 'Planet Of The Apes'. He carried that whole film, silent with just his eyes and face to tell the story. The anti Jar Jar.

If they are having any CGI characters in Episode VII, I hope they get Serkis in on it, so it's at least done as well as is possible. Or just get Serkis in to play a Sith lord/Imperial-agent/Gangster.

STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW
Time

^ Yes you're right. It's the 21st Century so equally that argument proves that the last Rolling Stones album was way better than anything they did in the 1970s! It must just be a fault with my eardrums that are telling me different ;-)

But seriously, 'Duel of the fates' and maybe 'Battle of the heroes' were nice but the rest was p*ss weak in comparison. If you really think JW is a better composer now than in the 70s and 80s I must be missing some of his work somewhere. A few musicians got better as they got older, like Johnny Cash and......... nope can't think of a second one. But even so JW isn't one of them, by any stretch of the imagination.

I don't want any PT music in Adywan's OT personally (IMO I felt DOTF created a narrative problem in ANH:R that impacts on ESB:R, but that's Adywan's call).

I do want Adywan to put OT music into his PT! :-D

HDTV vs. Computer Monitor, any real difference these days?
Time

I have my Laptop plugged in my TV via HDMI (Vaio and Samsung) and it's crystal clear. As good if not better than any monitor I've ever seen or owned. I assume it is also still a much cheaper option, as last time I bought a very large widescreen monitor it cost the earth.

However I used to have an acer Laptop and that looked bloody awful on a TV. So I'd imagine reading up heavily on the graphics card beforehand will help.

Between myself and the rest of my family we own at least 5 different sizes and models of Samsung HDTVs and they are all great with whatever you plug into them, in my experience. iPhones/Digiboxes/DVD & BR players/HDMI PCs & Macs/old PCs/Hi-Fis etc

Han was always "The first of the gang with a gun in his hand", Greedo was only added as a bonus track on the Special Edition of the album. Others singles included...

'Coruscant Is Not The World'
'Jedi Blood, Rebel Heart'
'Let Me Sith You'

and my favourite 'You Know I Couldn't Bast'

Very nice!

But you can't slap the extended Quarry in with the infamous "Special Edition" tag, as the original tracks are presented as originally released. There's no Bores shooting first or Alain's spirit replaced with Jessie Tobias. Just the singles B-Sides added to the end (which really do improve the album!).

But, if there were a SE of Quarry, I'd guess it we'd get
'You NOOOOO I Couldn't Last'

I was joking. I bought the SE of Quarry with the 'Complete b-sides' disc, then he bloody well released another single immediately after making the bonus disc incomplete... argh damn you Morrissey! (Shakes fist).

He was on fire in 2004. The 12 b-sides were as good as the 12 album tracks, especially 'The Never-Played Symphonies'.

I like albums to be as originally intended (Same for films). To get the original first Smiths album on CD. I had to buy two versions from 2 different corners of the globe. One had the correct artwork and one had the correct tracklisting. I used the two to custum build my definative CD then put the spare cover/disc back onto Ebay ;-)

YouTube/Vimeo/etc... Star Wars video finds
Time

I've been rewatching the two series of legendary 90s UK Sunday afternoon live comedy show 'Good Morning With Richard Not Judy' on YouTube. In the 8th episode of series two, it's stuffed full of Star Wars refrences due to it being broadcast 3 days before 'The Phantom Menace' was released.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NQxnO6b1Kpo

A nostalgic treat for fans of the show and for those who remember the fun and excitement of the last weekend off from school before our dreams were smashed ;-)

It's got Stew doing Vader in a Bristol accent, Olivier Award winning composer Richard Thomas dressed as Darth Maul, Trevor & Nathalie dressed as Leia and David Prowse (In that order) and a third prize trolley that is a disapointment after the first two prize trolleys xD

I saw Cowboys VS Aliens and I felt emotional impact when Daniel Craig,s character in the movie was so upset that that alien chick died at the end and Harrison Ford was like " It's okay she is in a better place now"

Hey look.....your 'comma' key works. Too bad you used it in the wrong place.

But the ST films explored the characters aging in a beautiful melancholic way. Sometimes it was even quite tragic, McCoys father, Kirk having no kids etc. Hell UC is all about aging.

Not an approach that would work for the fun atmosphere of SW I feel. Just show the OT gang as older, don't make it a running gag JJ for christ sake.

Um...David Marcus doesn't count?

I don't mean the movie should be downbeat or melancholy, just that our heroes act with some maturity and experience gained in the thirty years since we last saw them on Endor. And knowing when to let the new characters do the heavy lifting. Luke can still get away with Jedi derring-do though and throwing the old JK rulebook out the window.

I meant long after David (The son he meets for about a week) in ST7 when he suddenly realises Sulu has spent the last twenty-odd years raising a daughter and he's spent the time chasing his youth and is left all alone. Plus that movie has got the heartbreaking scene where Picard realises the same thing when he gets the message that the rest of his family has died in a fire.

That's the kind of deep emotion SW doesn't go to. Not that it doesn't have powerful emotion, it just handles it totally differently and less directly. I can't imagine Han having a scene where he starts crying and has a talk with Ships-Counselor Mothma.
