How about a game of Mornington Crescent?
Time

Speaking of Chris... at The Oval last week, Una Stubbs nearly fainted in horror when she saw Lionel Blair receive a full toss on the chest from Christopher Biggins.

But I digress... after that inspired Holborn move I've clearly got to raise my game. Erm...

Canning Town

Incidentally, it may interest you to know that Colin has recently returned from a tour of Mexico, where everyone was talking about his sheet music.

(Best new thread of the year!)

Hmmm... gotta think hard about this one... my move will be... Liverpool Stree... no wait that's an illegal diagonal move isn't it?

I'll go for... Goldhawk Road.

Ha beat that!

(I'll have to shoot off now as Samantha has pulled out some dusty old seven inchers that could all be made big again given sympathetic handling)

Who do ya'll think is the most attractive companion? I vote Peri.

Peri!

Peri is in the top 5 but for me it's gotta be either Ace (Who can't resist a girl with a holdall full of explosives and a Dalek destroying baseball bat?)...

...or Tegan for that outfit in 'Resurrection of the Daleks'...

... for a boy in the 80s that ^ was the hotness!

Either them or Colonel Leftbridge-Stewart's moustache...

I was delighted to have John Hurt in it because really what can't be improved by having Aragorn/Caligula/Quentin Crisp/Hazel the rabbit/Malcolm Scrawdyke in it?... the man can play anybody.

But I have to agree with the above comment that it would've been preferrable if McGann had been the "War Doctor" since his marvellous turn as the The Doctor never go a fair shake (Visually anyway). And yes despite my overall enjoyment of the special, we never actually saw the "War Doctor" do any warring which was odd.

clever edits! i like the way you cut to beru and then cut back to her calling luke. the greedo edit is completely seamless with the original camp voice now - if you make a trailer for this you should definitely use some of that greedo edit.

Thanks for the praise. There is more work to do on the Greedo audio as some of Han's lines need to synch better and part of his opening line is missing (Think it's on the theatrical voice soundtrack). But it's much better than on V1 of the edit where I dubbed the missing parts of the voice myself... badly. Although saying that my own attempt turned out to be surprisingly close to the actual voice when it came to light.

A quick test. Alternate and extended scene of Vader choking Captain Antilles and alternate take of "You will never find a more wretched..." line...

(^ Click to play)

Also just finished Irish Jabba, alternate Tarkin and extended/re-sequenced escape from Mos Eisley. Hi Ho Hi Ho off to the Death Star this edit finally goes!

This is as far as V1 got. V2 is already 10 minutes longer than the theatrical cut with the 2nd half still to edit.

A test of 3 segments today...

1. Placement of the deleted Blu-Ray scene of Beru making dinner: Think this works nicely now as we get two punch lines from the single garage scene.
2. Extended Speeder and Sand People: Added back the deleted Blu-Ray Speeder scene and used the E-Book footage to extended the Sand People sequence out.
3. VERY Rough test of restored Han and 'Camp' Greedo scene: All the missing dialogue from the Blu-Ray cut of this scene was on the E-Book so I've cut it back in.

FYI As always with this project, all audio is temporary but video is complete...

Hey Ryan.......very impressed, you should join some of the Forums, like Scale Model Addict, The Replica Prop Forum & Keeper of the Force, theres a girl (hot girl) whos making the Screamin' Boba model over at the RPF who needs to see those photos.

Excellent (really excellent) weathering on Boba & the.....what do you call that funny thing from the....ahem.....Prequels?.....oh yes, Battle Droid....

....actually bought that STAP model myself to modify the Battle Droid also,...but it's still on the sprue.

Very inspiring work there Ryan

John

Thanks, but I've not done any kits for years. Must restart one of these days (and finish that 1:6 resin Predator I never got past the bubble filling and sanding stage). I was inspired flicking through the first year of 'SF&F Modeller' issues that I also pulled out of storage. A great magazine...

If you want to post a link in that Boba Fett thread you mentioned, go for it. FYI This 1997 foldout poster magazine...

...was invaluable as it features a huge full length poster of Boba Fett showing his costume in every concievable detail. Might be able to find it on eBay. Mind you, back then I only had ROTJ on a blurry home taped VHS so I needed good photo refrences.

Finally AMT/ERTL's 1:6 plastic Stap/Battle Droid kit...

...Which I decided would look much better if I remade the Droid in a standing position.

This entailed cutting, repositioning, pinning and even remaking alot of the joints to get the Droid into a lifelike pose.

Getting the weathering 'movie accurate' was quite fun and I used graphite shavings, a cutton bud and then matte varnish to achieve it.

The trickiest thing was that the Droid didn't have a blaster so I had to scratch build one to scale out of refashioned plastic odds and ends. Then reposition all the fingers to hold the gun and touch the trigger.

The unpainted kit.

Next up AMT/ERTL's 1:6 Scale Vinyl Han Solo.

I kitbashed somekind of Mos Eisley power unit thing for the base.

The facial likeness isn't perfect but for an ERTL kit it's up there with the best. I was careful to refrence lots of photos of Harrison to get the skintone, light wrinkles, eyes, stuble and chin scar just right. I just had to look into a mirror for the scar as I've got one exactly the same ;-)

However the kit has a number of problems (Not least being Harrison is much skinnier) as the back pouches on his vest were missing, most of the utility belt items were inaccurate and he isn't wearing gloves despite being clearly in the Mos Eisley hanger pose. So I had to sculpt and add all those missing elements.

Also the shirt didnt fit into the trousers by a good 1/2 centimetre so I had to resculpt and remount that.

Model kit unboxed.

Couple of random ones...

AMT/ERTL's 1:6 Scale Vinyl Palpatine.

Unpainted kit.

Not their best kit as the head always looked to big for me, the sculpting on the robes isn't all that convincing and it doesn't look much like Ian McDiarmid (Or look evil enough) but I got the skin tones and eyes looking pretty good.

However, AMT/ERTL's 1:48 Scale Plastic Naboo Starfighter is really nice despite being a 'snapfast' kit. Lovely chrome and detailed decals. Weathering it just enough to match the film was quite tricky.

I was very careful to get all the details in the cockpit and on R2 correct despite the very small scale.

Kit pieces unpainted.

I've also got AMT/ERTL's plastic Speederbike and Podracer but they are covered in dust and need extensive cleaning.

After starting this thread with nothing to show of my own, I was finally able to get my old SW model collection out of storage (It needed a good dusting down!). So here it is...

First, my favourite kit: 1:6 Scale Kaiyodo Vinyl Boba Fett

I spent a long time trying to get every scratch and chip right on his armour correct including the right colour rusts. I even went to the trouble of getting the shade of paint beneath the chips correct because Boba's plates that are the same colour actually have different colour paint layers beneath different panels. Also Boba's various insignia isn't decals, it had to be hand painted.

Notice Boba's two gloves are subtelty different colours.

I was unhappy with the included vinyl cape so I cut a new one out of canvas, dipped it in glue so it went rigged then painted it.

I never glued the head at the neck joint, so it can be rotated like an action figure.

Unboxed original kit.

I'll post more kits soon.

theres some really nice intercuts in this, and that piece of music clicks into place surprisingly well in places - it definitely has the feel of an original assembly cut a.k.a. "the lost cut". i'd love to see you build up a version like this. maybe don't sweat the WW2 fighter plane stuff so much now that you have the rinzler stuff and the blu ray deleted scenes?

Thanks and yeah not going down the WW2 footage route now.

I'm feeling re-energised about this edit now I'm armed with all the alternate footage from the Rinzler E-Books. Here is the first sequence I've used it in...

(^ Click image to play video clip)

There are more than 30 cuts incorporating the new material across the 2 minutes, changing the film as much as possible from the Theatrical Cut. As a result the audio is currently a cut up mess so I've muted it and temporarily overlayed a nice bit of Korngold. I've also done a few cuts just to change it up a bit and I've finally found a way to successfully restore the 'Threepio getting blown up/tangled' sequence to it's original placement.

Star Wars: Episode VII to be directed by J.J. Abrams **NON SPOILER THREAD**

The moving of star wars from its summer release to December to accommodate the second Avengers movie has been expected for a while, does not mean it any less of a betrayal to the fans who expected star wars in May.

But now JJ gets the delay he wanted.  Just like he delayed the last 2 star trek films.

Also there was no way Disney would have star wars and Age of Ultron open within weeks of each other because they consider that bad for business.

Would have been interesting to see a Whedon VS JJ match of who is the better director and which film makes more money.

Right now I'm happy for it to be delayed considering all the designing, building and casting taking place without a finished script. I hope Disney realise that their profits for the next two decades will depend on EpVIII being well recieved. Sure delays may cause short term losses but they need to look at the big picture. This new SW era needs a rock solid foundation to restart the franchise.
