Speaking of hahahahaha, this is a great headline.

I should point out that this is from the NY Post editorial board, a pro-Trump outfit that endorsed him for the GOP nomination.

That article is also defending Trump Jr. It’s the same argument that meant Trump Jr didn’t get arrested for provably soliciting campaign donations from foreign nationals and governments… because people helpfully wrote it off as him being an idiot. Being called an idiot is always better than being jailed for treason.

Damn, I was looking forward to a Richard Fairbrass cameo in ESB:R 😉

I’m sure we’d all be fascinated in seeing some of your test footage of the Wampa at some point. Take heart that even the whole ILM team couldn’t get the Wampa to work back in the day.

I gave up on that poll part way through. The questions are too vague, confusing and non-specific to render any meaningful result. The clever polls ask very specific questions and interpret your response based on those. A couple of examples…

Q1: Oppression by corporations is more of a concern than oppression by governments?

Depends on the corporation and the governments. Also…

Q12: Excessive government intervention is a threat to the economy?

…is very stupid indeed. If it’s “excessive” then of course it’s a threat.

Increasingly online life and offline life and going to merge into one thing. At what point do we stop treating them totally differently.

If the guy was standing on a street corner screaming hate speech at passers by (Like the Westboro asshats) then CNN would report it, name him and show his face on TV with no qualms (like they and all media outlets do all day long as a matter of standard practice). He does the same thing online and telling us about his horrible activities is “doxxing”?

People like him are going to have to accept sooner or later (hopefully sooner) that if saying something horrid to people in the street would cost you your job, your friends, your family and your anonymity… you shouldn’t say it online either.

Terrible DVD/Blu-ray Cover Art

Michael Vejar is a cult-TV directing legend, directing many of Babylon 5’s best episodes and movies, plus lots of episodes TNG, DS9, Voyager and Enterprise… and yes the Robocop TV show.

While this one for ‘Brassed Off’ isn’t as bad as some design-wise, the total misrepresentation of the film as some kind of a Jennifer-Aniston-style light romcom is bizarre…

Imagine of somebody bought it thinking it was… then they get to the clown swearing at the children, the suicide scene and an old man coughing up blood.

At least the Brits are still able to criticize their leaders without punishment. In the US you could go to prison for a year just smirking at Jeff Sessions.

Don’t you believe it. These days, you get arrested and thrown in jail if you say you’re English don’t you.

Lefties really have a problem with the concept of U-N-A-F-F-O-R-D-A-B-L-E and W-O-R-S-E T-H-A-N U-S-E-L-E-S-S LEFTY initiatives.

There would be no need for austerity without that nonsense.

If JUST Amazon paid the same tax as I did when I bill my customers, they would owe an extra 1 billion tax every year in the UK alone. Across the last 7 years, that is more than equal to the cuts in the UK Defence budget. I assume if Amazon’s offices were subject to the kind of terrorist attacks we’ve seen in recent weeks (gods forbid) they’d want the UK Government to do something about it… free of charge?

It’s not the scroungers at the bottom that are the problem, it’s the scroungers at the top.

It’s actually a good result for the Democrats but by them talking it up as if they were going to win, they made a tactical error. A quick check on Wikipedia shows the split between left and right in Georgia’s 6th has consistently been around the 65%-35% area. This time it was 52%-48%, reducing an 80k Republican majority to 10K.

The “Trump effect” just caused Republican support in a super-safe district to drop off a cliff and if (a big if) the same swing is replicated across the US… the GOP are f**ked. It’s a Pyrrhic victory.

Same sort of thing just happened in the UK General Election, where the left made huge gains on the right (but still lost). The difference being that the left were expected to lose badly, so their huge gain in power was seen as the victory it was.

I think the problem has been corrected. I updated the Alerts plugin and it seems to have caused a minor problem. My bet is that those who couldn’t log in have an alert (a waiting PM, a response to a thread, etc.) and because of that it was crashing you out. Those of us who didn’t have any alerts weren’t affected.

Great work Q2. I’m back in a least.

Thanks for the replies everyone and thanks to Q2 for looking into this (Hope you’ve got a cream for the thunderclap).

Some info…

Desktop-PC+Firefox = white screen of nothing.

Desktop-PC+Opera (with or without VPN enabled) = “This page isn’t working / forums.fanedit.org is currently unable to handle this request.”

iPhone+Safari (wifi and 4G) = white screen of nothing.

Desktop-PC+Chrome = Forum seems to look fine, until I try to login to my forum account. It says logging in is successful and then a white screen pops up “This page isn’t working / forums.fanedit.org is currently unable to handle this request. / HTTP ERROR 500”. After that the forum is broken because I can’t logout again (or login).

Desktop-PC+IE = Same deal as Chrome. Same error “HTTP 500”. Again, I can’t logout now, so the forum isn’t accessible for me on any browser of device.

P.S. I was already logged into Firefox, Safari and Opera prior to the error starting to happen. So this looks like some kind of login thing? Account stuck in login-limbo?)

P.P.S I can access the ifdb admin panel as normal (so far).

I saw this post on the fanedit.org Facebook…

We’ve had a few reports of people not being able to access the forums. This doesn’t seem to be widespread

I can’t access the forums (or anything much beyond the homepage) since last night. Anyone else having the same problem? If anybody else from fanedit.org reads this who can access the forums still, could they tell somebody about the problem. Thanks.

btw I can’t access it from multiple browsers and devices.

Sandwich or Not?

When I first watched Seinfeld I was SHOCKED to discover Americans ate chips WITH a sandwich. It’s unnatural, unholy even. You have crisps with a sandwich. However, chips IN a sandwich is the king of sandwiches… as long as it’s in buttered white bread with Heinz tomato ketchup. Any variation on that is an abomination unto the Lord.

FYI…

Chips = Fries
Crisps = Chips
Chips =/= Crisps

Top post mate - unlike the BBC and Sky and much of the other media, Channel 4 still give a shit about the people involved in the news they broadcast. You can see it in their selection of presenters working for the channel, their questions, their compassion, their questioning of authority/those responsible.

They don’t patronise, or silence or shush people, look down on them, set an agenda or steer them to their political bias - unlike the others.

I think the BBC coverage is great too. It’s just that they are broadcasting 24/7 on TV and on radio across multiple channels/stations, where as Channel-4 only has to put together an hour a day. It’s always going to be a more focused package.

The BBC’s Victoria Derbyshire was down there on the morning after and did some broadcasting full of compassion…

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KRBFMEgY4MQ

BBC Radio 5-Live’s Nihal (who used to live in the area) went down from Manchester on Thursday and was in pieces when he saw the scene…

https://player.fm/series/audioboom-1284543/nihal-overcome-with-emotion-at-grenfell-tower

He managed to composed himself somewhat for the start of his own Afternoon Edition 1pm show shortly after and gave a memorable opening speech. At one point mentioning a friend of his had said the burned out tower on the skyline looked like “the Death Star, something that does not belong in the sky”…
