Making our own 35mm preservation--my crazy proposal
Time

I don't know if this has been answered before: Are you making a 4k version, that will be scaled down to 1080p when you're done, or do you scale the stuff down before you start working?

Will you also release the 4k version for download (if you're making one).

I'm asking because I would try to recreate the Movietrailer for Star Wars in 1080p, but the Trailer was in 1.78:1, which means I would have to upscale the movie first...

Yes, it's in german. That's why I assumed it's not that interesting for you guys here.

The same guy who made this play, made "Labyrinth Of Evil" and "Dark Lord" by James Luceno a couple of years ago. He got all of the german actors who dubbed the Star Wars Movies (except the original voice of Vader. The actor, Heinz Petruo, died in 2001), original Soundeffects and the music by John Williams.
The new play has the same quality, he even got the actor who dubbed C-3PO in the original Trilogy, who was changed by Lucasfilm for no reason in the Prequels and TCW.

I don't think this needs its own thread since there are not that much people here who are interested:

The "Thrawn Trilogy" by Timothy Zahn comes as an audio play to Germany. "Heir to the Empire" comes in four parts, part one starts on 08/17/2012, the next parts come every two months.

You can listen to 1 1/2 minutes from part one featuring Thrawn and Pellaeon (and some nice action) here: http://www.starwars-union.de/nachrichten/12422/Thrawn-Hoerspiel_Hoerprobe_ist_jetzt_online/

I, for myself, am excited as hell...

I guess with all the audio projects going on here, it's not really that problematic to NOT have sound coming with the files.

you have to be careful,

even trying to synch it with the GOUT audio

will not work correctly. it's close at times,

but it's not exact.

you will have to stretch, trim, or alter either

the frames or the actual audio to match up

with it....

Why? I mean, are there frames missing? Because if not, the sound of the GOUT would fit, wouldn't it?

Ep. VI: Rebel in Imperial Uniform?

Does the guy in the blue jeans and the red shirt have a wookiepedia page, too?

BTW: That poor rebel. I know what I smell after a few hours in my biker scout uniform. I don't want to imagine what it would be like if I had to wear a uniform worn by another guy for a few hours...

How the expanded universe ruined the original trilogy.
Time

I turned my back on the EU while reading the Kevin J. Anderson books of the "Jedi Academy". I tried twice to read the second book but never managed to finish it. It was just too... "who cares"?

BUT there are really good ones like the Thrawn trilogy (which comes as an audio play this year in Germany; all dubbing actors from the OT will be there, Williams' music and the original soundeffects, I'm excited as hell), or "Truce at Bakura" or "Shadows of the Empire". I even enjoyed the short story collections on Jabba's palace, the cantina and the bounty hunters. But the more books came the less I got interested.

Now I am really annoyed when a new episode of Clone Wars comes out and someone cries "b... but they're destroying the canon" because of something that doesn't compute with one of the books. In the mid 90s it was said that the books aren't canon, they where just authorised by GL. Canon was everything on film. So for me the OT and TCW are canon, and when someone turns the Moving CGI-Storyboard that was called "the prequels" into movies, they may be counted to my canon, too.

So IMHO, enjoy the stories if you like, but don't call them true.

Preserving the "German" Original Trilogy (Released)

Looks very good so far. Albeit, some of the lettering in the crawl (starting at 01:00 occasionally drags some sort of color-smear behind them (probably due to encoding problems?).

I've seen that too, but I think that's just the quick encoding to avi. The finished product will be encoded more carefully.

On a different note: Will you guys also add the german voice actors to the end credit rolls of the movies?
(It always kind of bothers me, that they were left out).

IF we do the german credits, there will be the studio and dialogue director, but the voiceactors were not in the original credits. We could add some text sheets that features them, though.
